I understand if they dn’t get many adult learners, but t say that adults are harder t teach than children is such a slap in the face. I thught I lived in a sciety that encurages peple t take n lifelng learning. Is there sme unspken rule that says after ne reaches a certain age, he r she is nt allwed t learn systematically with a trainer anymre? Are adults nt allwed t pursue new hbbies?
There were many things I didn’t have time t prperly learn when I was yung. I failed t see hw imprtant hbbies were, and I was sick f my parents nagging (唠叨) me t d after-schl activities. Tday, when I want t g ut with friends, I find I have s few activities t d with them. And nw I’m being tld that I can’t even make up fr my childhd mistake. It seems that I’ve missed my chance. We’re nt sure where letting children drink wine fits int permissive, authritarian and authritative parenting styles, but a research team frm the University f New Suth Wales are trying t find it ut.
During their study, researchers discvered that kids wh were given alchl by their parents were mre likely t be cnsuming whle drinks by the time they were 15 r 16, but were far less likely t binge-drink(酗酒).
The researchers analyzed nearly 2,000 Year 7 students and their parents ver a fur-year perid. The study fund that when children were given alchl frm their parents, they were least likely t binge-drink.

Lead authr f this study, Prfessr Richard Mattick, says that giving children alchl at an earlier age culd serve as a preventative measure f kids develping alchl-related prblems later in life. “There’s a bdy f research indicating the adlescent brain is still develping well int the early 20s and alchl may prevent the best develpment,” says Prfessr Mattick. “But als we knw parents want t d the right thing fr their children and there has been anecdtal evidence that children intrduced t alchl by their parents, as is cmmn in sme Eurpean cultures, may be less likely t develp prblems with alchl.”
Hwever, there’s ne result frm the study Prfessr Mattick can’t ignre: that being given alchl at an early age by the parents dubled (使加倍) children’s pssibility f drinking than their peers (同龄人). “There may be later harms that are nt yet bvius, and we’re aware that an early start f drinking is strngly assciated with later alchl use prblems in adulthd—putting it ff is the best strategy.”
Accrding t the researchers, kids supplied with alchl by their parents will be______.
mre likely t quit drinking in adulthd
less likely t grw int teenage binge-drinkers
mre likely t grw int binge-drinkers
less likely t have whle drinks as teenagers
    29. Wh affected kids’ drinking behavirs the mst in the study?
    A. Their parentsB. Their friendsC. Schl authritiesD. Strangers
    30. Which statement will Prfessr Mattick agree with?
    A. The brain stps develping befre the age f 20.
    B. Alchl wn’t damage the develping teenage brains.
    C. Giving kids alchl at an earlier age may have its benefit.
    D. Eurpean kids tend t develp prblems with alchl.
