Unit 7 Work for Peace Lesson 40 The UN-The Power of Words 知识目标单词regret, examination, pain,wake up, get dressed, get into词组suffer through,World War Ⅱ,the United Nations,instead of ,permanent member countries,the SecretaryGeneral,better than句型The head of the UN, chosen by all the member states, is called the Secretary-General.It is not always easy for the members to reach agreement.Just imagine how difficult it is to satisfy all 193 members! 技能目标能听懂本课时的听力材料,能说出本课时的重要句型,能运用句式用英语谈论学习方法掌握文中重点短语和句型。学习复习连词but,and,so,or的用法。Step 1:Warming upT:Words or war—which is more powerful?Ss:I think words are more powerful.T:Do you know there is an international organization which tries to prevent war?What’s its name?Ss:Yes,I know.Its name is the UN.T:Yes,its name is the UN.But its full name is the United Nations.设计意图:以对话形式开始新课,锻炼学生的口语。Step 2:Presentation1.投影出示一些单词snake,lock,situation,agreement,satisfy,president,provide,passage让学生说出它们的意思。其中包括已经学过的词汇和situation,agreement,satisfy,passage(由于这四个词以前没有接触过,所以暂时放到一边)。2.继续看复习题1中留下的未知项,即situation,agreement,satisfy,passage。老师将这三个词的汉语意思添加上去,教学生如何读,用这些单词造句并反复拼写,加以识记。(1)situation n.状况;形势;处境Do you know the situation we are facing?你知道我们所面临的形势吗?(2)agreement n.协议;同意,一致Finally,they reach an agreement.最后,他们达成了一个协议。(3)satisfy v. 使满意;使满足Are you satisfied with your English teacher?你对你的英语老师满意吗?(4)passage n.章节,段落;通道,走廊Read the first three passages by yourselves.首先自己读一下这三篇文章。3.阅读练习。让学生阅读课文,然后完成教材105页的Exercise 1。设计意图:要求学生自学,培养学生独立学习的意识。4.分析讲解本课的短语。(1)suffer through 熬过;挨过(2)World War Ⅱ二战(3)the United Nations(UN)联合国(4)instead of 代替,而不是……(5)the UN Security Council 联合国安理会(6)permanent member countries常任理事国(7)the SecretaryGeneral 秘书长(8)better than 超过,多于,好于设计意图:本课涉及到的短语比较多,单拿出来讲解便于学生对短语的理解和掌握。Step 3:DrillDo Exercise 2 on Page 105.设计意图:检查学生对新学词汇的掌握情况。1.It's very friendly ________ him to help me when I'm in trouble. A.of B.with C.to D.in2.—Did you walk to school this morning? —No,we went by bus ________. A.instead of feet B.instead walking C.instead of on foot D.instead of foot答案:1.A 2.C完成请完成《 少年班》P20对应习题本课时以问答形式与学生互动来导入新课,引出课时的中心—What does the UN stand for ? 这样既增长了学生关于what引导的特殊疑问句的知识,又锻炼了学生的思考能力。
