Step 1 Talking abut ur wn schl
Get the students t talk abut their wn schl. Ask them t fill in the fllwing table. The teacher can help the students by asking them sme questins.
Hw many Grade 8 Class are there in yur schl?
There are 7 Grade 8 classes.
Step 2 Listening and finding ut answers
Tell the students that Jhn and Daniel are talking abut their schls. Ask them t listen t the tape and find ut what they are talking abut? Ask the students t remember the questins:

Get the students t read the dialgue in rles and then invite the students t practice the dialgue and try t remember it.
Step 3 Making up yur wn dialgues
Shw the table in step 1 t the students and ask them t make up their wn dialgues. Invite several pairs f the students t present their dialgues in frnt f the class.
Step 4 Making ur vice rise at the end f a sentence
Say ‘Ww! A wnderful jb! I am really surprised that yu can d s wnderful a jb.’
Tell the students that we can make ur vice rise at the end f a sentence t shw surprise. Explain the meaning f the wrd ‘surprise’.
Step 5 Talking abut pictures
Shw the picture n Page 34 t the students. Get the students t talk abut it by asking sme questins.
Bks clsed and listen t the dialgue fcus n the intnatin. Play the recrding nce again and pause fr the students t imitate.
Bks pen and get the students t read the dialgue pay special attentin t the intnatin. Encurage the students t lcate the wrds that cause surprise (‘hurt her leg’ ‘fr a mnth’ ‘fr three mnths’)
Encurage the students t act ut the dialgue, shwing surprise nt nly thrugh the intnatin but als sme nn-lingual appraches. Encurage them t feel rather than imitate.
Step 6 Listening and drawing
‘Let’s cme t mre sentences shwing surprise.’ Play the tape f Part B, Page 34. First play the tape fr the students t listen and repeat, and then encurage them t drawing rising and falling arrws t shw the intnatin. Encurage students t make sme amusing r unusual statements t create a fun atmsphere in the classrm.
Step 7 Putting a rising tne at the end f the sentences
Write sme sentences n the blackbard and get the students t read it. And then put a rising tne at the end f the sentences that shw surprise.

Encurage the students t think f smething untrue r strange and make sentences.
Get pairs f partners t speak ut their sentence r sentences in the frnt. Give sme cmments. We can check frm the fllwing aspects.
