N, nt fr me as a student, but rather, fr me as a first-time reading tutr(助教)vlunteering with the Experience Crps prgram.
I'm s prud t be part f such a wrthwhile educatinal rganizatin. The Experience Crps develped a research-based, statistically prven reading imprvement prgram which cnsists f fun reading games. In the games, I'd play with each child and they didn't even realize that they were actually learning and imprving their reading-we were having t much fun!
"Ms. R," (as they called me), "I read my bk t my dg, Sunny, and she really liked it, t." Great! That's the idea-keep n reading t thers at hme t increase accuracy and fluency. "Ms. R, my mm has a baby in her belly. I'm ging t be a big sister and will read t him when he cmes ut." That ne made me feel all warm and sweet, and I tld the student that she wuld be the best big sister ever. "Ms. R, why d yu have gray hair?" I lve the frankness f kids. I just laughed and tld them it was better t have gray hair than n hair! We all giggled(傻笑)at that.
The students were tested thrughut the year, and results shwed that they were making prgress in their reading. I hpe I played at least a small part in their academic success. When I first vlunteered t tutr, I was a bit anxius. I had n teaching experience, but I fund ut that yu dn't need any.
