Sme f the creatures sit n his chair, while thers climb up his bdy and tuch his head. But, Bartn keeps his attentin n his perfrmance, even as a small mnkey runs ver his hands n the instrument. It's easy t understand why early humans dmesticated (驯养)dgs as their new best friends, dmesticated dgs can guard against fierce animals and prvide warmth during cld nights. But thse benefits nly cme fllwing dmesticatin. Despite mre than a century f study, scientists have struggled t understand what caused the dmesticatin prcess in the first place.
A new thery given by Maria Lahtinen, a senir researcher, might be able t explain this puzzle. She made this thery when studying die diet f late Pleistcene hunter-gatherers in Arctic and sub — Arctic. At that time, arund 20,000 t 15,000 years ag, the wrld was buried in the cldest perid f the last ice age. In cld envirnments then, as tday, humans tended t gain the majrity f their fd frm animals. Nutritinal deficiencies (缺失) came frm the absence f fat and carbhydrates (碳水化合物), nt necessarily prtein. Indeed, if humans cat t much meat, they can develp prtein pisning and even die. "Because we humans are nt fully adapted t an all-meat diet, we simply cannt digest prtein very well," Lahtinen says.
During the cldest years f the last ice age — and especially in lugh Arctic and sub-Arctic winters — reindeer, wild hrses and ther animals that humans killed fr fd wuld have been struggling t live. Using previusly published early fssil recrds, Lahtinen and her clleagues calculated that the game captured by peple in the Arctic and sub-Arctic during this time wuld have prvided much mre prtein than they culd have safely cnsumed.
〔1〕What has been cnfusing scientists in the past century?
    A.Hw dmesticated dgs benefited humans.

    B.The hunting activities.
    C.Wild animals r birds.

    4.阅读理解
NO ONE EVER said science educatin was easy. Certainly the cncepts we teach, like cnservatin f mmentum r quantum mechanics, can be hard t grasp. But what really cmplicates the attempt is that we're als trying t teach a deeper lessn at the same time — t help students understand the nature f science itself.
All t ften, yung peple get the impressin that science is abut learning certain "laws" and then applying them t different situatins. After all, that's what we make them d n tests, t shw that they've been ding the wrk. But that's nt it at all. Science is the prcess f building these cncepts thrugh the cllectin f experimental evidence.
And while I'm n it, let's call these cncepts what they really are—nt laws, but mdels. Science is all abut building and testing mdels. It's difficult t help students understand that aspect f science when we just give them the mdels t begin with. Sure, in physics we ften include histrical r mathematical evidence t supprt big ideas, but that ften isn't enugh.
Of curse, we can't start frm nthing. If students had t build their wn mdels frm the grund up, it wuld be like trying t learn prgramming by inventing cmputers. As Isaac Newtn is suppsed t have said, we stand n the shulders f giants. We must take mdels built by thers and g frm there.
What I'd like t suggest is that this actually prvides a great way int the adventure f science and an pprtunity t meet ur bjectives as educatrs. If yu can create a situatin that challenges students' assumptins and prduces cnceptual cnflict, that's a great pprtunity fr learning.
〔1〕What is the misunderstanding f teaching science?
    A.It's cmplicated.
    B.It fcuses n the nature f science.
    C.It's very difficult.
D.It lies in leaching and testing "laws".
〔2〕Which way t teach science is highly recmmended by the authr?
A.Encuraging students t always start frm nthing.
B.Prviding students with sme mdels t fllw suit.
C.Guiding students t begin with mdels built by thers.
D.0ffering students prf i supprt imprtant cncepts.
    〔3〕The authr cites Isaac Newtn's wrds t .
    A.justify the experiment
    B.praise the statement
    C.shw the achievement
    D.supprt the argument
〔4〕What is the best title f die passage?
A.The Best Way t Teach Science
B.The Best Way f Cncept Building
C.The Best Way t Learn Science
D.The Best Way t Handle Cncept Cnflict
