The Vitality Big Half Marathon
The Vitality Big Half gets started and will see people deal with various challenges, ranging from a half marathon to a one-mile fun run. It first started last year and saw over 11, 000 people take part, with the aim of inspiring more people to get active and take up running.
When does the half marathon start?
The Vitality Big Half will start from 9 am today by Tower Bridge, as well as The New Balance Big Relay. The 2.3-mile Little Half will start at 12:45 from Southwark Park, while The Vitality Big Mile will start at Greenwich Park from 12:30.
What is the route?
The Vitality Big Half will start at Tower Bridge and runners will then follow a 13.1-mile route that will take them past Shadwell and Limehouse, before circling around Canary Wharf. The marathon runners will then follow the River Thames back towards Wapping and then go over Tower Bridge and head towards Southwark Park. The route continues along the south side of the River Thames, circling around Rotherhithe before joining up The Little Half runners and travelling through Deptford towards the finish line at the Cutty Sark.
How to watch the runners?
You can go to various points along the route to watch the runners in person or you can also head straight to Greenwich Park which is right near the finish line at the Cutty Sark. It will also be possible to watch the half marathon at home by using the BBC Red Button on your TV or by watching online.

When I was a kid, I'd often find my grandmother in the kitchen talking to herself, often going over what she was going to do that day. Back then, I thought that talking to oneself was something mentally ill people did. In fact, science has now shown that talking to oneself has benefits.
Gary Lupyan, a professor of psychology, headed up a recent experiment. He tested one of the theories of talking to oneself. Participants looked at objects on a computer screen. Some of them were told to say the name of the object out loud, while others just looked at it. Later, when they were asked what they had seen, people who spoke aloud could recognize more of the objects they had seen more quickly when presented with them again. Lupyan explains that saying the name of something out loud exaggerates(使扩大)what typically happens in the brain when you're bringing back a memory. "Language helps that process." he says.
Carrying on a conversation about yourself to yourself can also help you reduce stress. Researchers tested this idea by studying brain activity during two different experiments. In the first experiment, they showed people disturbing and neutral(中性的)images. When reacting to disturbing images, participants' emotional brain activity decreased very quickly when they discussed themselves in the third person. For the second experiment, participants were asked to reflect on a painful past experience using first and third person language. When using third person language, there was less activity in the region of the brain associated with painful emotional experiences.
Besides, talking to yourself can also be a way to answer a difficult question. If you have a real dilemma(进退两难的局面), try arguing one side and then the other. Hearing the two sides out loud might give you a new view on the problem. If you're upset with someone in your life, instead of letting him/her have it, consider taking your anger out on a tree or a pillow. You may end up feeling better and may realize you don't need to speak to the person after all. Or it may lead to greater understanding about why you're so upset.
The science is clear now. Whether you're stressed, angry or trying to remember something, talking it through with the one who knows you best can help.

Air travel technology is changing at a rapid pace-what can we expect to see in the near future?
Robotic airport assistants are becoming increasingly more commonplace-they help you navigate your way through a crowd, and at the same time, keep track of your flight information. The global demand and frequency of travel is expected to increase by 3.5% per year, and air travel is predicted to increase from 3.8 billion travelers in 2016, to well over 8.2 billion passengers by 2037. Robotic assistants will not only guide travelers through the airport but also carry their luggage for them!
With the introduction of biometrics(生物识别), long waits might become a thing of the past. There will come a time when we will no longer have to prove our identity-with advanced recognition technology, you can automatically pass all checks and be granted entry into an aircraft without ever having to show your passport and boarding pass. As long as you are on the passenger list and have no restrictions, your unique biological traits, like fingerprint, will be sufficient in proving your identity to customs and airline staff.
Our current aviation(航空)industry has already carried out a partial automatic pilot system, and it is only a matter of time before we switch over to complete cockpit(驾驶舱) automation! So what does it mean for future air travelers? The answer is clear: lower organizational costs, safer route planning and air traffic management, and a cheaper flight ticket.
Internet of Things(IoT) makes devices around us smarter and allows us to interact with them even from a distance. When you are high up in the air, you can enjoy the convenience of adjusting your lighting, and many other creative features-controlled entirely from your phone!Once landed, IoT technology will also allow you to track down your luggage using your phone, order it to roll over to you, and follow you as you walk through the airport.

China's lead in e-commerce is not entirely new. By size, its market overtook America's in 2013-with little physical store space, its consumers and retailers leapfrogged ahead to the digital world. When Alibaba listed in 2014 it was the World's largest-ever initial public offering. Today the country's e-retailing market is worth$2trn.more than America's and Europe's combined. Bu一beyond its absolute size it now stands out from the past, and from the industry in the West, in several crucial ways.
For a start it is more dynamic. In the past few years, new competitors, including Meituan and Pinduoduo, have come of age with effervescent business models. One sign of fierce competition is that Alibaba’s share of the market capitalisation of the Chinese e-commerce industry has dropped from 81% when it listed to 55% today.
Competition has also led e-commerce and other tech firms to knock down the boundaries between different types of services that are still common in the West. Point and click are outdated: online-shopping platforms in China now mix digital payments, group deals, social media, gaming, instant messaging, short-form videos and live-streaming celebrities.
This shift to a more Chinese-style global industry promises to be excellent news for consumers. Prices would be lower, as China has seen fierce discounting by competing firms. Choice and innovation would probably grow. Even so, Chinese e-commerce has shortcomings. There are those antitrust(反垄断)concerns.
China's antitrust regulators are also keen to boost competition. That means enforcing interoperability(互操作性), so that, for example, payments services on one e-commerce platform can be used freely on a competitive one. And it means preventing e-commerce firms from punishing merchants who sell goods in more than one place online.
