Pranavh Jshua Vallabhaneni and his family were preparing fr a new additin—Pranavh's baby brther—and it gt his inventive juices flwing.
"My parents were shpping fr car seats," said Pranavh, 15, a sphmre student at Uninville High Schl in Pennsylvania, US. "I realized that there was a lt f emphasis n child safety."
He kept hearing tragic stries regarding babies being left in ht cars. "I started t think abut why and hw t help prevent the issue," Pranavh said. His brther Jayden is nw fur. Pranavh has wrked tirelessly since Jayden's birth t help prevent car deaths amng yung kids. Mre than 940 children have died in ht cars in the US since 1990, accrding t kidsandcars.rg. "The mst tragic part is that ver 50 percent f ht car child deaths have happened because parents frgt their children were in cars," Pranavh said.
S he began inventing and came up with the Baby-Saver Ht Car Alert(警报)Device. It sends different autmated alerts t parents and lcal authrities when the temperature inside the car crsses certain threshlds(临界点). At the first threshld, an alert will be sent t the parents' mbile devices. At the secnd threshld, a buzzer will sund in the car, drawing attentin t the vehicle. At the third threshld, an alert will be sent t lcal authrities, prviding GPS crdinates f the vehicle and letting them knw f the ptentially fatal cnditin inside f it.
He started develping the cncept as an experiment in his science class and kept expanding upn it. In July, his creatin was praised at the Inventin Cnventin Wrldwide, a glbal K-12 educatin prgram. And he scred first place fr the safety award during the 2020 Virtual Awards Ceremny. "Pranavh is a shining example f what determinatin and innvative prblem-slving can achieve," said Lucie Hwell, chief learning fficer at the cnventin.
Pranavh is applying fr patents t get his inventin t the public. He plans t cntact car makers and hme security cmpanies t use the device n a larger scale. "It is an amazing feeling, especially seeing hw it grew frm an idea t a full-blwn inventin," he said. "I hpe it will save lives and make the wrld a better place."

K. brught 96 adults int a lab and created bredm by having them watch a fur-minute vide f a man discussing his wrk at an ffice supply cmpany. In a dull vice, the man described a cnversatin with a client, eating lunch at his desk, and hw they determine the prices f prducts.
Then, the study participants experienced scenes f an underwater cral reef(珊瑚礁)scene frm the BBC's "Blue Planet Ⅱ" series. They watched it n TV, with a virtual reality headset using 360-degree vide, r with a virtual reality headset using cmputer-generated interactive graphics.
Researchers fund that all three methds minimized negative feelings like sadness and significantly lwered bredm. The interactive virtual reality experience actually increased psitive feelings, such as happiness, and strengthened the cnnectins peple said they had t nature.
