Many wild animals are facing the danger of disappearance, because the environment that they are living in has changed greatly. At the same time, man is killing off species just for getting their fur, skin, horns, teeth and meat. As a result of ivory-poaching(象牙偷猎) which caused the population to drop 20% between 2006 and 2015, elephants are among the most endangered animals in the world. But now in the Grumeti Game Reserve in Tanzania the elephants wander freely and safely as everyone wears a tracking collar. Rangers (护林人)in the operation room depend on the Earth Ranger Tech Platform (ERTP) to follow each elephant. In its early stages of development, the platform was named the Domain Awareness System or DASS.
What we do with DASS is that we monitor every collared elephant and we also input data which in turn helps us make decisions and plan operations. When dangers are detected, the system warns the rangers who are following the data. DASS makes rangers always behind and after the elephant even if it has been killed or has been injured. Rangers are really able to predict and get ahead of the danger.
Rangers not only save the lives of the elephants, they also protect the workers in the re-serve from poachers. Frequent and fast communication with the operation room makes the rangers’ tasks easier and safer. The developers hope Earth Ranger will provide conservationists(资源保护论者) in the region with the network where they need to work together and save Africa’s wildlife.
28. Why are the elephants in Tanzania free of being hunted?
A. Because the elephants are protected by the police in Tanzania.
B. Because the elephants are protected by ERTP.
C. Because of the changing environment they live in.
D. Because the elephants are endangered.
29. What is the advantage of ERTP?
A. Dangers can be known before rather than after they appear.
B. It will know elephants are in danger after they have been injured.
C. Elephants can be protected from being injured.
D. It can also protect the other animals besides the elephants.
30. Who will not benefit from ERTP?
A. The elephants in the Grumeti Game Reserve in Tanzania.
B. The people working on the reserve.
C. The hunters poaching ivory.
D. The African wildlife.
31. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Saving Africa’s wildlife.
B. Protecting elephants by using ERTP.
C. Protecting the rangers from being injured.
D. Saving the endangered animals.
But now in the Grumeti Game Reserve in Tanzania the elephants wander freely and safely as everyone wears a tracking collar. Rangers (护林人)in the operation room depend on the Earth Ranger Tech Platform (ERTP) to follow each elephant.“但现在在坦桑尼亚的格鲁梅蒂野生动物保护区,大象们自由而安全地漫步,因为每个人都戴着追踪项圈。手术室里的护林员依靠地球护林员技术平台(ERTP)跟踪每一头大象。”可知,坦桑尼亚的大象之所以没有被猎杀是因为大象受到ERTP的保护。故选B。
29. 推理判断题。根据第二段中When dangers are detected, the system warns the rangers who are following the data. DASS makes rangers always behind and after the elephant even if it has been killed or has been injured. Rangers are really able to predict and get ahead of the danger. “当探测到危险时,系统会向跟踪数据的护林员发出警告。达斯总是让护林员跟在大象后面,即使大象被打死或受伤。护林员能够预测并提前应对危险。”可知,ERTP的优势是“危险在出现之前就能知道,而不是出现在它们之后。”故选A。
As a result of ivory-poaching(象牙偷猎)which caused the population to drop 20% between 2006 and 2015, elephants are among the most endangered animals in the world.“由于象牙偷猎,大象的数量在2006年到2015年间下降了20%,大象是世界上最濒危的动物之一。”
根据第一段中Rangers (护林人)in the operation room depend on the Earth Ranger Tech Platform (ERTP) to follow each elephant.“手术室里的护林员依靠地球护林员技术平台(ERTP)跟踪每一头大象。”

As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remembering less? If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder(文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location(位置)better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory”.
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize large amounts of information so that they are able to find it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
32. The passage begins with two questions to ___________________.
A. describe how to use the Internet. B. introduce the main topic.
C. show the author’s attitude. D. explain how to store information.
33. What can we learn about the first experiment?
A. Sparrow’s team typed the information into a computer.
B. The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C. The second group did not understand the information.
D. The first group did not try to remember the information.
34. In transactive memory, people ___________________.
A. remember how to find the information.
B. keep the information in mind.
C. change the quantity of information.
D. organize information like a computer.
35. What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow’s research?
A. We are becoming more intelligent. B. We have poorer memories than before.
C. We are using memory differently. D. We need a better way to get information.
由第一段“Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.”
由第二段“People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.”
由倒数第二段“When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory”可知,当人们使用互联网时,他们不记得这些信息。相反,他们记得如何找到它。这就是所谓的“交互记忆”。所以在“交互记忆”中人们记得如何查找信息。故A选项正确。
35. 推理判断题。由最后一段“This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.”
Why do some people enjoy more health and happiness than others? It seems that they are able to realize their dreams rapidly. The good news is that you can be one of those people. 36. Now consider the following habits of exceptionally happy people from my book Find Your Happy.
Make themselves available to success. Happy people are great goal setters. 37.
This allows them to stand out in different areas of their life. Ask yourself if you are open for opportunities and setting big goals.
Don’t use the word luck. When you look at an exceptionally happy person, you may say, "They are so lucky." But a conversation with them will reveal that luck is not in their vocabulary. Instead, they believe that passion and persistence(坚持不懈) equals great results.
38. Exceptionally happy people are busy making their goals come true. They understand that spending time arguing with others takes them away from what they care about most. They love hearing people talk about their views, but happy people won’t spend time trying to convince you to adopt their beliefs.
Walk out of their comfort zone and seek risk often. 39. So they ask for adventure and satisfaction through seeking new experiences. They see risk as growth and are happier because they live a life with no regrets.
40. Happy people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about happiness. They live in the moment and enjoy the ups and downs of life. Happy people still experience setbacks, but they look at those setbacks as a way to learn more about themselves and to grow. Happiness is not something they seek, as it is a daily practice that never leaves them.
A. Try to be more patient.
B. Don’t try to make you win over with debates.
C. Realize there is more to life than being happy.
D. I know this is true from personal experience.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening. My name is Li Hua. I am from Class 1 Grade One. Many wild animals are facing the danger of extinction because of human activities.
As is known to us, to protect animals is to protect ourselves, so measures of the following should be taken: pollution standards are made to keep down poisons; killing off certain rare species is prohibited; national parks should be set up as wild life reserves. As a student, we should also protect animals in our daily life. When we see a stray cat or a stray dog, we’d better give it some food, as sometimes it is difficult for it to find food and it need something to fill its empty stomach, and what you afford is in great need. Whenever we see someone hurt an animal, we shouldn’t hesitate to stop them doing that.
Only if we human beings show our love to them can animals be preserved.
