I remembered I had a gun if I needed it, and turned back towards this man of the island. He was hiding behind another tree but stepped out to meet me.
‘Who are you ? ’I asked, staring at him.
‘Ben Gunn ,’he answered, and his voice sounded rough and strange .His skin was burnt nearly black by the sun and his clothes were made from pieces of a ship's sail. ‘Poor Ben Gunn,’ he went on. ‘Alone for three years.’
‘Were you shipwrecked(船遇难)?’I asked.
‘No ,my friend,’ he said. ‘Marooned.’
I had heard the word before, and knew it meant a cruel(残忍的)punishment often used by pirates(海盗)-leaving a man alone on some distant, empty island.
‘Marooned for three years, ’he continued,‘ living on wild goats and fish. But I'm in a great need for real English food back home. You don't have a piece of cheese, do you? Many nights I've dreamed of cheese.’
He continued. ‘Well, tell me your name. ’
‘Jim,’ I told him.
‘Well, Jim,’ he said, looking around and lowering his voice to a whisper, ‘I'm rich.’ I was now sure the poor man was crazy ,but he repeated his words. ‘Rich, I say! Now ,Jim ,that isn't Flint's ship, is it?’
I began to think that I had found a friend, and I answered him at once. ‘It's not Flint's ship any more. Flint is dead, but there are still some of Flint's men aboard, and that's bad news for us.’
‘A man with one leg?’ he asked, fear in his voice.
‘Silver?’ I asked.
‘Yes , Silver,’ he said, ‘that was his name.’
‘He's the cook, and their leader, too.’ And I told him the fight between Flint and the cook, and the danger we were now in.
‘You're in trouble, Jim,’ he said when I'd finished. ‘Well, Ben Gunn will help you. Will your squire(乡绅) be generous if I do, do you think? I don't want him to give me a job, but will he give me one thousand pounds out of money that's really mine?’
‘I'm sure he will,’ I said.

For many years, artists (艺术家) have been in Paris, France, to paint or to learn to paint. Perhaps artists first went there because of the city’s beauty. They went to paint pictures of the broad tree-lined streets, the great churches (教堂), and the beautiful river bridges. The artists felt comfortable in Paris because the people of the city always enjoyed art. Paris had great art museums, full of famous paintings and statues from many countries. And the people of Paris always welcomed new ideas. In this city, artists felt free to experiment with new ways of painting. As soon as famous artists painted in Paris, students came to learn them. People came to buy paintings. Men who were called art businessmen set up galleries (陈列馆) and paintings could be bought and sold at the galleries. Others kept shops that sold artists’ paints. Students and the artists who were not yet famous could live in Paris for very little money. They learned by studying great art in the museums, and they learned from each other. They hung their paintings outdoors along the streets.
Today, New York City and Florence, Italy, are also famous art centers. But the world’s main art shows are still held in Paris. Most of the new ways of painting have started in the last hundred years in Paris. So artists and art businessmen still go to Paris because it is the world’s main and important art center.

There is a famous expression in English, “Stop the world, I want to get off!” This expression means a feeling of fear or stress, which makes a person want to stop whatever they are doing, try to relax, and become worried about their work or personal life. It is one of the most common causes of health problems in modern life. Too much stress leads to physical, emotional, and mental health problems.
There are many physical effects of stress. Stress can affect(影响) the heart. It can cause high blood pressure. Stress can affect the respiratory system (呼吸系统). It can lead to asthma—a medical condition that makes breathing difficult. Stress can affect the stomach. It can cause stomach aches (疼痛). These are only a few examples of illnesses resulting from stress.
Emotions are also easily affected by stress. People suffering from stress often feel anxious. They may have panic attacks. They may feel tired all the time. When people are under stress, they often overreact to little problems. For example, a kind mother under a lot of stress at work may shout at a child for dropping a glass of juice.
Suffering from stress for a long time can lead to serious mental illnesses. Depression, a very strong feeling of sadness and hopelessness, can be the result of stress. Eating disorders (紊乱) are sometimes caused by stress and are often made worse by stress. If stress is allowed to go on, one’s mental health is in danger.
It is clear that stress is a serious problem. It attacks the body. So, reduce stress: stop the world and rest for a while.
