    It was the first swim meet f the year fr ur newly frmed middle-schl swimming team. The atmsphere(气氛) n the three-hur bus ride was exciting as the team nly thught f 19 .     The cach lked dwn at the yung by and said, “Justin, this race is twenty lengths f the pl. I’ve nly seen yu swim eight.”
    “Oh, I can d it, Cach. Let me try.” Cach Huey finally agreed, nt 20 thugh. After all, he thught, it’s nt the winning but the trying that builds 21 .
    The whistle(哨子) blew and the ppnents flew thrugh the water and finished the race in just fur minutes and fifty secnds. The winners gt tgether t scialize while ur grup 22 t finish. After fur mre lng minutes, the last tired members f ur team gt ut f the water. The last except fr Justin.
    Justin was 23 breaths as his hands hit the water and pushed it aside t mve his thin bdy frward. It appeared that he wuld g under at any minute. Yet smething seemed t keep pushing him nward.
    “Why desn’t the cach stp this child?” the parents spke amng themselves. “He lks like he’s nt ging t make it, and the race was wn fur minutes ag.”
    But what the parents did nt realise was that the real race, the race f a by becming a man, was just 24 .
    The cach walked ver t the yung swimmer and quietly spke. The parents thught, “Oh, he’s finally ging t pull that by ut befre he kills himself.” But t their 25 , the cach stepped back frm the pl’s edge, and the yung man cntinued t swim.
    One teammate, inspired by his brave friend, went t the side f the pl and walked the lane as Justin cntinued. “Cme n, Justin. Yu can d it! Keep ging! Dn’t give up!” He was jined by anther, then anther, until the whle team was walking the length f the pl cheering fr and 26 their teammate t finish the race set befre him. Their ppnents saw what was happening and jined them. Sn the rm was full f energy and excitement as teammates and ppnents alike gave curage t ne small swimmer.
    Twelve lng minutes after the starting whistle had blwn, a tired but smiling, Justin Rigsbee swam his final lap and pulled himself ut f the pl. The standing vatin(起立鼓掌) they gave Justin that day prved that the greater victry was his, just fr finishing the race.
