    The MIT researchers designed a system that uses an underwater machine t send snar signals t the surface, making vibratins(震动) crrespnding t the 1s and 0s f the data. A surface receiver then reads and decdes these tiny vibratins. The researchers call the system TARF. “It has a number f ptential real-wrld uses, ” Adib says. It culd be used t find dwned planes underwater by reading signals frm snar devices in a plane’s black bx and it culd allw submarines t cmmunicate with the surface.
    Right nw the technlgy is lw-reslutin. The initial study was cnducted in the MIT swimming pl at maximum depths f arund 11 r 12 feet. The next steps fr the researchers are t see if TARF is wrkable at much greater depths and under varying cnditins—high waves, strms, schls f fish.
