The marathon (马拉松) is a longdistance race with a distance of 26 miles. The origin of this event began with a battle in 490 B. C.
The battle was fought by the Persians (波斯人) and the Athenians (雅典人) at Marathon not far from Athens, and the Athenians finally won the battle. To let the people in their hometown know the good news of the victory as soon as possible, General Miltiades sent a soldier named Pheidippides back to report.

In memory of this event, the marathon race was set up in the first modern Olympic Games held in 1896. The distance Pheidippides ran was about 22 miles. Marathon was originally a place name in Greece. ★ If you drop something, leave it on the floor. Move it only if it is in the aisle (过道). This includes utensils (用具) —simply ask the waiter nicely for another one!

Volunteers are probably some of the most overlooked(被忽视的) people. But no activities can carry on smoothly without hardworking volunteers. Last month, I volunteered at the Colour Run in Melbourne, Australia.
Although I did not have so much fun as the runners, I still learned a valuable lesson.
My job was to give high five(击掌庆贺) to every runner at the finish line. At the beginning, I saw it as a simple task. When the first runner passed, I reached out my hand and shouted“Good job!” excitedly. However, as more and more runners crossed the finish line and touched my hands with theirs, my arms got sore(酸痛的). To make things worse, it became hotter. My clothes were wet because of the sweat(汗水), and I felt really tired. But soon I saw a group of children running towards me. They were about 6 years old. Although they could hardly catch their breath, they still kept running with big smiles on their faces. They waved their hands and said loudly, “High five!”
At that moment, I was quite touched. They were so young, and they refused to give up, while I was just complaining about the tiring work. I felt I was refreshed by them. I clapped their hands, “Well done, little guys!”
That is the meaning of being a volunteer. It is never an easy job. However, we may meet different people and see the spirit that supports them. Although such a spirit is not often found in daily life, it can encourage us a lot when we see it by accident.
63. What was the writer's job at the Colour Run in Melbourne?

A. Volunteers and their special stories

C. A valuable lesson about running
D. Different volunteers from all over the world
D
