My wife and I recently completed a day-long tour of the Great Wall with Jessie. In addition to being very knowledgeable about the history of the areas that we toured, she spoke excellent English and was able to answer all of our questions. Her driver was very experienced and polite, and we really enjoyed being able to have a customized tour that avoided the tourist traps and forced shopping that seem to be a part of the larger group tours.

The attractions themselves were fantastic. I was a little worried that the snowy weather might impact our trip to the Great Wall, but everything went fine, and there weren’t many people out at all that day. I suggest wearing strong shoes—the Great Wall is really a hike. And in snowy or rainy days, the surfaces are pretty slippery (滑的)! Seeing this area in winter was really unique, and the snow made for great pictures. Jessie kept us entertained with stories and facts about the construction of the Wall, and always pointed out great spots for taking pictures. Even though she’s in fantastic shape, she cared about our level of fitness and often stopped to let us catch our breath.

When we got back to our hotel, Jessie gave us a great recommendation for dinner and some tips for our planned stops the next day. If I find myself in Beijing in the future, I will certainly be contacting Jessie for more tour opportunities, and I’ve already recommended her to some friends who are visiting the area later in the year. I can’t say enough about how kind and knowledgeable she was, and she really gave us a great tour experience.

4What can we infer about Jessie?

    AShe is a tour advisor.

    BShe is a tour guide.

    CShe is a foreign traveler.

    DShe is a skilled driver.

5When did the writer visit the Great Wall?

    AIn spring. BIn summer.

    CIn autumn. DIn winter.

6What did the writer think of his tour?

    AAdventurous. BDisappointing.

    CSatisfactory. DImprovable.

7What is the probable title for the text?

AA Wonderful Tour Day with Jessie

    BAn Extraordinary Tour Company

CThe Great Wall, an Excellent Attraction

DJessie, a Kind and Knowledgeable Guide

Most children who have suffered from ADHD still have it as teens. During teen years, especially as the hormonal changes of teenagers are going on and the demands of school and extra-curricular activities are increasing, ADHD may get worse.

Because of problems with getting unfocused and poor concentration, many teens with ADHD have problems in school. Grades may fall, especially if the teen is not getting ADHD treatment. It’s not uncommon for teens with ADHD to forget their homework, lose textbooks, and become bored with their daily class work. Teens may become inattentive or extremely attentive, not waiting for their turn before blurting out answers. They may cut in on their teacher and classmates. Teens with ADHD may also be fidgety and find it hard to sit still in class.

Often, teens with ADHD are so busy focusing on other things that they forget about the task at hand. This can be seen especially with homework and athletic skills and in relationships with their schoolmates. This lack of attention to what they’re doing often leads to bad grades on tests and being passed over for sports teams, after-school activities, and learning teams. Kids with ADHD can be targets for bullying, too. But, not all children with ADHD have trouble getting along with others. If your child does, you can take measures to help improve their social skills and relationships.

ADHD affects all parts of a teenager’s life. As a parent, you should discover your teen’s troubles as early as possible. The earlier your child’s troubles are discovered, the more successful the following steps can be.

8What does the author plan to do in paragraph 1?

ATo list the types of ADHD BTo introduce the main topic.

CTo show the author’s opinion. DTo explain the causes of ADHD

9What does the underlined word “fidgety” probably mean in paragraph 2?

    AClever. BNoisy. CRestless. DLazy.

10What is the text mainly about?

AWays to deal with ADHD BEffects of ADHD on teens.

CTeens’ school performances. DDemands of school work.

11What may the following paragraph talk about?

AHow parents can help a teen with ADHD BThe importance of healthy peer relationships.

CHow many children are suffering from ADHD DDifferent opinions about treating ADHD in teens.

Over 180 teenage girls from Lixian County No. 1 Middle School in Longnan city, Gansu province, listened carefully to a lecture about neuroscience (神经科学). It was delivered by a director of the experimental surgery department at The Second Affiliated Hospital of the Air Force Medical University in Xi’an.

The students also joined a science class to make paper rockets to launch into the sky. A plastic bottle was connected with a long pipe joined to the end of the rocket, and students stepped heavily on the middle of the bottle so hard that the air pressure shot the rocket upward.

The program started in 2016 as a one-week summer camp in Beijing that invited female students to take science courses and to interact with women in science. It aims to stir (激发) an interest in science and technology among female students.

“I’m excited to take the opportunity because it’s been my biggest wish to popularize science among students. They can broaden their eyes and hopefully some of them will devote themselves to the field of neuroscience,” the director says. “It’s necessary to bring more of these activities on campus. I’m willing to communicate with teenagers, some of whom ask deep and thoughtful questions that I would never think of.”

The key to science popularization is to imbue (灌输) others with the spirit of science. Some scientific and technological workers have devoted themselves to a job in a certain field and they enjoy the pleasure of scientific research. Female Chinese scientific and technological workers sometimes have to double their efforts to receive the same treatment or recognition as those male scientific workers. However, after years of continued effort, the situation will improve, showing the increasing number of female scientists in China.

12What is the purpose of the program?

ATo praise the efforts of women scientists.

BTo find out how much girls love science.

CTo develop interest in science among girls.

DTo show love for students in Western China.

13How does the director think of the program?

    AImportant. BChallenging. CConfusing. DSerious.

14What is the most important in science popularization?

AEnjoying the fun of scientific research.

BFilling people with the spirit of science.

CHolding more scientific activities on campus.

DForcing students to choose scientific subjects.

15What can we learn from the text?

AOne can go anywhere if he/she learns science well.

BPeople have a stronger sense of science than before.

CMale scientists are much easily recognized than female ones.

DThe director graduated from Lixian County No. 1 Middle School.

    二、七选五

How to Get Ready for the First Day of High School

Whether you’re a wide-eyed freshman or an experienced senior, the first day of school can be exciting. 16 But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a little nerve-racking(伤脑筋的) as well. Luckily, you can shake off a bunch of these nerves with a little bit of preparation.

Purchase school supplies. 17If your teachers send out syllabuses(大纲) ahead of time, scan each document to find the list of required materials you need to buy before school starts.

18 Get your bag ready the night before so you don’t have to rush. If the first day is going to be a course introducing a new situation or environment, you probably don’t need all of your textbooks. However, you should at least pack a notebook and something to write with.

Set your clothes aside before bed. Go through your closet and pull out what you’re going to wear. 19 If they don’t, you can wear whatever you’d like, but try to choose a top and bottom that are going to be comfortable.

Figure out your lunch plans. If you need to pay for lunch, get your money the night before. Pack your lunch and keep it in the fridge before you go to bed if your school wants you to bring your own. 20 Having a plan for lunch will keep you from sitting around the cafeteria with nothing to eat.

    APack your backpack.

BIf you’re packing your own lunch, keep it simple.

CGet plenty of notebooks, pens, and pencils for school.

DPick something that reflects your personality and sense of style.

E.If your school offers free lunches for students, double-check to make sure.

F.If your school has a set uniform, pull it out and set it aside for the morning.

G.It’s a chance to see old friends, make new friends, and get a fresh start of study.

    46Dear Peter,

How time flies! It has been over a month since I entered my new school.

Located in the southwestern part of our city, my new school is a modern and fantastic school. It is a boarding school, which can provide accommodations for nearly 2,000 students. There is a standard playground, a library with 30,000 books, several labs, and teaching buildings, with each classroom equipped with electronic facilities and so on.

My new school deeply impresses me. If you are free, you are welcome to come to my new school.

    Yours,

    Li Hua

47Hearing this, the shop owner smiled and said to Stephen, “Good my dear young man ! Now think about your mom.” Stephen thought of the moment when he was a little kid. In fact his mother carried him in her. She cooked for him. She played with him. He also remembered that when he failed in the exam, she comforted him with all her heart and kept him company over the night. She was there for him whenever he needed her.

Stephen realized his me mistake and thanked the shop owner. He rushed to his home in a hurry. He saw his mother standing on their street with tears in her eyes. His mother said, “Where have you been? I have been searching for you everywhere. I have cooked the meal you like best. Come and have it now. You must be hungry!” He hugged his mother, streaming with tears and said “I am terribly sorry, mom. I am wrong and I will never quarrel with you again. I love you.”
