We've talked about snails (蜗牛)and their slow move. But much of the time snails don't move at all. They are in their shells —sleeping.
Hot sun will dry out a snails body. So at the least sign of hot sun, a snail draws its body into his shell. A snail will die in a heavy rain. So when it rains, a snail does the same thing, too. A snail can sleep for as long as it needs to. It spends all the winter months in its shell, asleep.
In the spring the snail wakes up» Its body, about three inches long, comes out from the shell. When hungry, the snail looks for food. Its eyes, at the end of the top feelers, are very weak. But its sense of smell is very strong. It helps the snail to find food and the new greens.
A snail's mouth is no bigger than the point of a pin. Yet it has 256, 000 teeth! The teeth are very small, and you can't see them. If you put a snail in a hard paper box, it will eat its way out! And if a snail wears out its teeth, it will grow new ones.

Culture shock begins with the "honeymoon period". This is the time when you first arrive in a place where everything about the new culture is strange and exciting, You see new things, hear new sounds and language, eat new kinds of food. All the little problems in life seem to be much bigger and more worrying when you face them in a foreign country. This period can be very difficult and lead to moving backwards quickly.
The third period is called the "adjustment(调整)period". This is when you begin to know 1hat things are not so bad in the new country. Your sense of humor usually becomes stronger and you know you are becoming stronger by learning to take care of yourself in the new place. Things are still difficult, but you are now a survivor.
The fourth period can be called "at ease at last". Now you feel quite comfortable in your new place. You can do with most problems that you have. You may still have problems with language, but you know you are strong enough to do with them. At this time, you may feel a little uncomfortable if you go back to your motherland.

Everyone dreams of changing the world. But can teenagers really make a difference? And how can they go about it?
Michael Norton's book 365 Ways to Change the World is a good starting point. The book gives an idea or task for every single day of the year. The tasks include offering to work at a local homeless shelter (庇护所)and planting a tree.
His book says that one simple act, no matter how small, can help someone in need. It may even influence (影 响)other teens to do something.
Nathan Anthony, a student at Maple High School in Modesto, California, US, agrees. " It is impossible to get anything in life without giving something to someone or working hard at school or workplace; Anthony said.
Another Maple student, Ariane Mota, has the same opinion?' Giving is our way of repaying those who help "Giving is our way of repaying those who help us," she said." Whether it is a helping hand or a donation, we should help others to improve their day or life."
But how often do teens see peers(同龄人)helping a stranger or doing something nice for someone?
According to Anthony, not a lot. He and Mota both believe this needs to be changed." I help my friends by telling them that their lives are better than those poorer people," Anthony said." Humor is also a great tool."

In fact, poor eyesight among Chinese primary and high school students rose from 59.2 percent to 70.6 percent. In the first half of 2020, according to the Ministry of Fducation.
To protect students' eyesight, the Chinese government has worked out new requirements for school equipment(设备).They will take effect on March 1,2022. For example, according to the requirements, the size of text in students' textbooks should be no smaller than nine-point (小五号).
Teachers should also avoid using projectors(投影仪)or other multimedia equipment that are too bright. There are also requirements for desk and classroom light. For example, these light should give off as little blue light as possible.
Blue light is bad for our eyes,as it can kill the photoreceptor cells(感光细胞)we need for vision. Many of the electronic devices(电子设备)we use every day, including our phones and computer screens, give off blue light.
Chinese government has also taken other steps to protect students' eyesight in China. In May 2020, the National Health Commission asked schools to make sure that students have at least two hours of outdoor activity a day.

In other words, with or without these courses, they can make it anyway, because they are those who have the ability to learn by themselves.
In general, the best is the one that suits you most. "Pay-for-knowledge" may be used as a good start for self-growth. Be careful! Otherwise, your dream of success may not come true.

Women make up 50 percent of world's population and yet they are not treated equally. They hold less than one-fifth of the all parliamentary(议会)seats around the world, occupy less than 19 percent of board(董事会)seats in Fortune 500 companies and earn 17 percent less than men for similar skills and positions. As a group, they are passed over and looked down on.
On March 8 every year, millions of women around the world celebrate International Women's Day. It is possible that you may not have heard about the International Women's Day in the United States. Yet Women's Day had its origin in the United States.
Women's Day was first celebrated in February 1909 in the US to mark the one-year anniversary of the New York Garment Worker's Strike of 1908. Women used the chance to fight against warring and fight for women's vote rights.
Did you know that it was a Women's Day protest in St. Petersburg in 1917, which led to the revolution(革命)for bringing down the Russian empire? After the Russian revolution, Women's Day came to be celebrated as a communist((共产主义的)or socialist (社会主义的)holiday. As a result, the United States government didn't accept it as a holiday.
Today Women's Day is celebrated in places such as China and Russia as a sort of state-approved Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. The tradition in these countries is to give flowers and gifts to the important women in one's life.
In 1975, the United Nations officially announced March 8 as International Women's Day. Since then, it has been a practice to suggest an annual theme for each year. The theme for 2016 is "Pledge For Parity." It calls on women and men to challenge the present state and inspire positive change in their communities and workplaces.
There is a lot that needs to be done. As a society, we need to offer women and girls chances to make their dreams come true, have equal chances for leadership, respect and value differences, and develop a better work environment. This day challenges and reminds that everyone can be a leader in their own small way and can take positive steps to bring about gender equality.
Our world can truly be balanced when we use the potential that women have to offer. As we prepare children for the future, it is important that girls and women not be left behind.
