For about two months, Frank Gordon and his dog Casey have been in intensive training.
Casey is training to become a qualified service dog, and Gordon is training to use him to cope
with what doctors have diagnosed as severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD 创伤后应激
障碍)。
And that alone is a huge step for Gordon, who says he feels trapped in the real-life nightmare he endured during his military service. After having lived with invisible wounds for more than 30 years, he's now got Casey, a new solution to a problem as old as war.
Casey and many other dogs at Wags for Warriors, a non-profit organization in northeast Ohio, are trained to sense when their veterans(老兵)become anxious, and to pull them out of panic attacks. That's what a dog named Sophie was doing as she sat next to her owner and Wags for Warriors co-founder Frank Delorenzo. Sophie reminds Delorenzo to take his medication, pulls him out of crowded areas, and wakes him up from nightmares.
Army veteran Olena Fergurson, who had a brain injury in a plane crash, says,“Before I got my dog Vata and started my training, I could not attend an appointment. ”
Since October of last year,Delorenzo and his wife have been training and providing service dogs to these veterans free of charge. They hold training classes between three and four days each week.
“Some veterans say that it improves their quality of life, but we haven't been able yet to determine whether these dogs provide a medical benefit to veterans with mental illness,” says Mark Ballesteros, a spokesperson for the U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
Dr. Heather Axtell, a clinical psychologist, says, “I believe that service animals provide a lot of comfort. They make people feel more secure, but they can't take away what happened. Service dogs give veterans companions, and unconditional love. ”

Cambridge Folk Festival has been running since 1965; it takes place in July and has a capacity of 14,000 people. The festival is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the event and has found that a strong relationship with their energy supplier, Pearce Hire, is key to reduction.
Cambridge Folk Festival has worked with Pearce Hire for over 30 years and they have come to understand the festival's environmental values. They work closely with the festival's Production Manager, to continually improve energy efficiency, introduce new innovations and to meet the criteria for a greener festival.
As Pearce Hire provides both power and lighting, they can invest in more efficient lighting, knowing that their investment will be subsidized by the resulting reduction in generator (发电机) size and fuel costs. They are also uniquely placed to identify where and when to turn on / off generators and therefore save fuel.
Over the years they have introduced a number of innovations in lighting: adding sensors, manufactured in-house, to switch site lighting on and off at dawn and dusk as required, resulting in huge savings in energy use and costs. They also replaced power-hungry lights with LED lighting site-wide, and supplied LED equipment for stage lighting.
Generators used on-site are one of the most energy-efficient generators you can get and they are arranged in an efficient system of many smaller generators rather than two big sets. The festival saves 12,000-15,000 liters of diesel (柴油) per event and makes a massive saving on the carbon footprint. Meter readings are taken every three hours during the festival so that the carbon footprint can be accurately calculated and the festival's major impacts identified and improvements made where necessary.
The festival encourages all staff and food sellers to “switch off” when possible; visitors are asked to reuse plastic cups to reduce litter and waste; backstage, water coolers are used instead of plastic bottles. The festival commission goes to great lengths to protect local waterways, land and the biodiversity of the area from negative impacts of the event.
Over the last five years the festival has reduced its diesel usage by a third. These reductions have been achieved through the joint efforts of supplier and festival teams.
32. Why does the festival cooperate with Pearce Hire?
A. To be eco-friendly.
B. To try renewable energy.
C. To rebuild their relationship.
D. To increase its impacts on visitors.
33. What does the underlined word “subsidized” in Para 3 probably mean?
A.put off
B.added to
C.paid back
D.brought up
34. What can meter readings be used to do?
A. Improve the lighting's effect.
B. Record the carbon footprint.
C.Identify the type of litter and waste.
D. Calculate the total hours of the festival.
35. What does the festival encourage festival-goers to do?
A.Switch off their personal equipment.
B. Go backstage to have cool water.
C. Stay clear of the local waterways.
D.Recycle stuff consciously
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Saying no to the right things will help you prioritize (优先处理) high-benefit activities, avoiding excessive stress, and reducing the risk of failing to meet your responsibilities. So,it's better to get into the habit of considering what invitations to say yes to and what to say noto.36 .
Start by asking yourself questions to measure the potential benefits: 37 ? What is the likelihood that it will create more beneficial opportunities in the future? How important is this
activity to me personally? Or, will this bring me joy?
38 : How much of my time will it really take? How much time does my schedule have
available around when this activity would take place? Will saying yes mean I can't say yes to something else that's important to me? Will saying yes steal time away from my personal life?
Will this activity cost money? How much stress will the activity cause me? Finally, would I suffer bad effects if I said no?
When you're done, carefully examine the advantages and disadvantages. If your analysis suggests that the activity would result in many benefits and few costs, then that should be a top candidate for a yes response. 39 , even if they are low-cost as well. In our experience, it's the high-benefit, high-cost activities that require the most careful consideration.40 , which isn't always easy - especially if your answer is no. Figuring out how to give an honest response can help avoid over commitment and time spent on low-benefit activities.
A.How much will I learn
B. Could you give this presentation
C. The next step is making a response
D. Then ask yourself questions to estimate the possible costs
E. You can achieve it by making an informal cost-benefit analysis
F. We encourage you to do three things to improve your“no”abilities
G. On the contrary, low-benefit activities might be given a straight no

With the rapidly development of modern science and technology, there is more and more
kinds of electric cars coming into our lives and becoming popular.
Electric cars have much advantages. Firstly, they are energy-saving and environmentally
friendly. We don't pollute the air because of they use electricity instead of petrol. Secondly, it
is easy and safe to drive electric cars. In addition, they made little noise when they are
running. Last but not least, electric cars can go at a speed of 120 kilometers a hour. And on
one charge, they can go as far as 160 kilometers.
In my opinion, how our government should do is to take action to support the production
of electric cars and encourage people use them. If possible, people should use electric cars in
order to make our world cleaner but better in the future.
