It was a moment carved (铭记) in her memory. When Liu Jing played the suite of Dream of the Red Chamber, which is based on a novel of the same title written by Cao Xueqin during the Qing Dynasty, in the University of Cambridge as a member of a Chinese ensemble(剧团) in 2011, something strange happened. As she played A Lovesick Knitted Brow in Vain, which describes the failed love story between two main characters Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu in the novel, an old woman who sat in the first row of the audience burst into tears.
She was curious and asked the woman, at the end of the performance, if she had read the novel. The woman said: “No, but I just felt the melody(旋律) touched me very much when it was created by your Chinese instrument.”
The experience was one of the inspirations that urged Liu to promote traditional Chinese music and instruments. Many years later, Liu, who is in her thirties now, has shared a series of original music videos featuring traditional Chinese stories and created by Chinese instruments, with her online name Liu Qingyao. They have become hugely popular.
According to Liu, the frequent performances and competitions sharpened her pipa-playing skills. “From grade four at primary school to senior high school, I often completed my homework on my way to other countries during many weekends and vacations,” said Liu.
“In the future, I want to cooperate with more museums, and try to tell the stories of cultural relics in my musical works, so that people enjoy the beauty of both Chinese music and cultural relics, and appreciate Chinese culture,” said Liu.

Ten years ago, I set out to examine luck. I wanted to know why some people were always in the right place at the right time, while others consistently experienced ill fortune. I placed advertisements in national newspapers asking for people who felt consistently lucky or unlucky. Hundreds of extraordinary men and women volunteered for my research. Over the years I have interviewed them, monitored their lives and had them take part in various experiments.
In one of the experiments, I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, asking them to look through it and tell me how many photographs were inside. I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper, saying, “Tell the experimenter you have seen this and you will win $50. " This message took up half of the page and was written in type that was more than two inches high. It was staring everyone in the face, but the unlucky people tended to miss it and the lucky people tended to spot it.
Unlucky people are generally more nervous than lucky people, and this anxiety affects their ability to notice the unexpected. As a result, they miss opportunities because they are too focused on looking for something else. They go to gatherings concentrating on finding their perfect partners and miss opportunities to make good friends. They look through newspapers determined to find certain types of job advertisements and miss other types of jobs.
Lucky people are more relaxed and open, and therefore see what is there rather than just what they are looking for. My research eventually showed that lucky people are skilled at noticing opportunities, make lucky decisions by listening to their intuition(直觉),are open to new experiences, and adopt a never — say — die attitude that transforms bad luck into good luck.
- What's the purpose of the author's research?
A.To discover what luck means to people.
B. To figure out why people are always lucky or unlucky.
C.To find lucky people and unlucky people.
D. To distinguish between good luck and bad luck.
9.Why did the unlucky people miss the message in the experiment?
A.There was too much information to be read in detail.
B.They were too focused on looking for photographs.
C.It took too much time to go through newspapers.
D.The words were too small to be noticed.
10.What leads to lucky people's good fortune?
A.Their ability to spot opportunities.
B.Their ability to become relaxed.
C.Their ability to communicate.
D.Their ability to make friends.
11.What's the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.What lucky people are looking for.
B.How lucky people create good luck.
C.What lucky people can do with opportunities.
D.How lucky people transform bad luck into good luck.

France's Louvre Museum reopened on Monday after closing in March due to the coronavirus. But things are far from business as usual.
The world's most visited museum has carried out new measures, including a mask requirement and an online-only reservation system to protect art lovers from the virus.
One unintended consequence of these restrictions has been an experience devoid (缺乏的) of the usual crowds of tourists, which normally reach up to 50,000 people a day.
Freddie Keen, visiting from London with some friends, told NPR it was easy to take his time seeing some of the Louvre's top attractions. "It was definitely a much more comfortable experience seeing the Mona Lisa without having any peer pressure from hundreds of people staring at you and waiting for you to move on," Keen said.
Floor markers in the hall, where the Mona Lisa is held, have been put in place to ensure guests keep a physical distance of at least 3 feet. Visitors must also follow a one-way path through the building.
International tourists made up around 70% of the 9.6 million visitors in 2019. Museum Director Jean-Luc Martinez said he was hoping to attract more French tourists this summer because of the current travel restrictions.
"We are going to be at best 20 to 30% down on last summer," Martinez told Agence France-Presse, adding that the museum expects between 4,000 and 10,000 visitors a day.
During the four-month shutdown, the famous art destination lost an equivalent (等价物) of $45 million in ticket sales this year. However, France's tourism industry could soon get a much-needed improvement. Last week, the European Union lifted travel restrictions on visitors from more than a dozen countries considered low risk for spreading the coronavirus. Because of the rising level of virus infections among Americans, the United States was not included on the list.
12. What one can experience with new measures taken in Louvre Museum?
A. Wearing masks offered by the museum.
B. Appreciating works of art with experts.
C. Visiting the museum with fewer tourists.
D. Enjoying tour-guide service free of charge.
13. How does Louvre Museum keep visitors at a safe distance while visiting?
A. By persuading them to wear masks.
B. By closing some districts to the public.
C. By accepting online-only reservation.
D By sticking one-way marks onto the floor.
14. Where do the current potential visitors probably come from according to Jean-Luc Martinez ?
A. France itself.
B. The United States.
C. European countries.
D. Around the world.
15. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Restrictions on tourism will remain strict.
B. Louvre Museum suffered the greatest loss.
C. France’s tourism could gradually improve.
D. Americans are resistant to the coronavirus.

Although problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesn’t mean that we let them rule our lives forever. One day or another, you’ll have to stand up and say, “Problems, I don’t want you in my life.” Of course, we’ve been fighting troubles ever since we were born. Problems with friends, parents, girlfriends, husbands, and children—the list goes on. 16
But good news is that all problems can be dealt with. Now read on to know how to solve your problems.
Talking really helps. What most of us think is that our problems can be understood only by ourselves and that no talking is going to help. But the truth is that when you talk about it, you’re setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you. 17
Write down your problems. Having a personal diary can also be of great help if you don’t want a real person to talk with. When you write down your problems, you are setting free all the tension from your system. You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems. 18
Don’t lose faith or hope. No matter what you lose in life, don’t lose faith or hope. 19 With faith, hope and confidence, you can rebuild everything that you lose.
20 No matter what problem you get in life, there are another one million people whose problems are bigger than yours. Tell yourself: when they can deal with them, why can’t I? Your problems might just seem bigger and worse, but in reality they can be solved.
Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.
