According to a Facebook post by Kevin Leslie, a man was traveling with his young daughter when he was told he had to buy her a plane ticket or she could not board.
“This woman needs to be recognized,” Leslie wrote. “A gentleman was checking in for his flight when the agent asked how old his daughter was. He said she had recently turned two. The agent then asked if she had a ticket. The man was confused because he was under the impression she could ride for free. He was hit with emotion. He mentioned he couldn’t afford to rebook this flight or get her the ticket with such short notice. He stepped aside and tried to make a few calls. Hugging his daughter and grabbing his head, you could tell he was heartbroken. This woman next to him at the front counter heard the whole thing. She walked over to him and asked what was wrong. After they talked for a bit they walked up to the counter together. She pointed back at his daughter and said, ‘I wanna buy her ticket.’ The agent said ‘You know how much this ticket costs right?’ The woman responded ‘$700 something?’ ‘$749’ the agent said. The woman said ‘that’s fine’ and pulled out her credit card.”
“I was right there and I just said to her, ‘God Bless You!’ and they printed out the ticket,” Leslie continued in the post. “The agent kept talking about her goosebumps(鸡皮疙瘩) while the man hugged the woman and asked for her name to repay her. The woman just kept saying, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ She knew she wanted to help that man and his daughter no matter what the cost. Please share this story because people like this need to be praised.”
Although Bolton planned to stay anonymous(匿名的) and did not buy the ticket to receive attention, after the post went viral on Facebook, a number of people left comments that revealed her identity.

    24. What can we infer about the man?
    A. He wanted to save some money.

As Valentine’s Day approaches» many people with dogs will not care one bit whether they get a card. A survey by the Kennel Club has found almost one in five said they were so attached to their pet because ‘dogs don’t let you down’ in the same way that other people might.
Hollywood legend Glenn Close took her Havanese dog Pip to the Oscars last year, describing her pet as ‘the best date a girl can have’. Comedian Miranda Hart and racing driver Lewis Hamilton have gone on holiday with their dogs, and actor Ryan Gosling has taken his cross-breed George, who he describes as ‘the great love of my life’, to chat shows for moral support.
This could be due to the numerous benefits that come with dog ownership—from the psychological to the physical. Dogs help their owners unwind, whether that’s with a daily walk in fresh air, or with a cuddle(依偎) on a sofa. They can also be great listeners, help their owners release stress, and can play a part in improving their health and fitness.
Nevertheless, for those dog owners who are still looking for love, the research suggests their pet might help. More than a fifth of those questioned said they had been asked out on a date with their dog appearing best for attracting a potential partner. Among those responding to the survey, 21 percent said they were more likely to date someone who also had a dog.
Mr. Lambert said? “This is quite unsurprising when you consider that dogs are a great ice-breaker, when strangers may otherwise not look twice at each other, and that we tend to have more associations about people who love dogs.”
People who owned a pet dog were also very likely to say their pet may have helped them out romantically.
    28. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
    A. Summarizing the previous paragraph.
    B. Providing some advice for the pet owners.
    C. Introducing some celebrities to the readers.
    D. Giving some examples to support the view above.
    29. What does the underlined word “unwind” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A. Focus. B. Relax. C. Recover. D. Participate.
    30. Why is dating out with a pet dog more appealing?
    A. It comforts the strangers.
    B. It is the best friend of mankind.
    C. It is a bridge between the parties.
    D. It makes the conversation romantic.
    31. What is the author's attitude to the company of a pet dog?
    A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Reserved. D. Disapproving.
    D
The tree house is a platform or building constructed around, next to or among the trunk or branches of one or more strong trees. In a more dangerous time in human history, their position above the ground would protect the dweller(居住者) against environment difficulties and possible fierce animals. As modern construction has improved? the tree houses have become less of a practical dwelling and more of a children’s novelty. But now, these fun shelters are appealing to adults too and many are booking themselves in for a few nights among the treetops.
These tree house hotels can be found from Europe to Australia. Best of all, they come in a variety of interesting designs! From the traditional “four walls and a roof” hotel, to the more artistic Nothofagus Hotel in Chilean Patagonia, whose twelve-sided walls make it look like a beehive. The Free Spirit Spheres(球体) village on Vancouver Island in Canada allows guests to stay in one of three yellow spheres, which hang from trees. Not only are they as safe as houses? they’re popular!
In Sweden, at the Treehotel, numbers have also risen. “In 2010, we had four rooms and around 1,500 guests a year. Today we have seven rooms and nearly 5,000 guests,” co-founder Kent Lindvall explains. Each of the rooms there was designed by an architect, who was asked to make use of the light and surroundings. They include a mirrored cube, a bird’s nest and a UFO.
And how about an office? Microsoft, hoping to give its employees thinking space, has constructed a tree building structure. “Studies show people can work better in nature. They are more productive,” says Mr. Nelson, designer and builder of tree houses.
If you’ve no head for heights, then maybe a tree house will be your home away from home. But the sense of adventure, the novelty of the setting and the opportunity to return to nature are attracting an increasing number of tree house-staying adults.
    32. How do children feel about the tree houses?
    A. They are novel. B. They are practical.
    C. They are strongly built. D. They are well decorated.
    33. What do we know about the rooms at the Treehotel?
    A. They are unique in design. B. They are the largest in size.
    C. They overlook bird's nests. D. They appear in traditional style.
    34. What has Microsoft done for its employees?
    A. It has rented tree house hotels.
    B. It has created tree house office buildings.
    C. It has trained them to work more productively.
    D. It has improved their abilities to survive outdoors.
    35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. Advantages of Tree Hotels
    B. The trend for Tree Houses
    C. Ways of Building Tree Hotels
    D. The differences Between Tree Houses

Should you eat to live or live to eat? … a question posed by French playwright Moliere in his work The Miser. While eating is functional, and our bodies need the fuel that food provides, dining with friends or loved ones can be a wonderful experience. 36 But is dining alone really that bad? Maybe not.
We all have foods we like and dislike. Maybe it’s a pungent(刺鼻的) cheese or smelly fish. 37 When dining alone, we can consume whatever we like, with the added benefits that we might be able to eat more healthily.
38 If dining alone, you can make the choice depending on your desires at that moment and get your nourishment at exactly the time you’re hungry! And why does it have to be a restaurant? You could eat in a park, garden or even your bed—the point is, the choice is yours! 39 According to psychologist Sherrie Bourg Carter, a bit of staying alone can help your brain to relax and may help you concentrate more.
For those of us who suffer from misophonia, a hatred of sound, the noise of someone else chewing can be unbearable. Eating alone can save you from the extreme anxiety that can avoid listening to the sounds in others’ mouths! So, is eating alone bad? Well, it may not be for everyone, but there certainly are some benefits to it. 40
    A. We end up ordering the same.
    B. Try it sometime—you might just like it!
    C. That alone time also means it’s a time to switch off.
    D. Generally, for some, dining with friends can be a necessity.
    E. We sometimes hold back on things that may offend the noses of others.
    F. However, some of us often find ourselves reserving a table for one in a restaurant.
    G. Have you ever spent too long debating which restaurant to eat in or when to meet?

Several years ago I loaned a girl some cash as she badly needed some work done to her car. We eventually worked in different cities but remained friends. About a year later she sent me a card thanking me for helping out and repaid me, which I had never expected from her. The $250 she gave me was nice to have, but honestly was not needed, nor did I expect her to repay me.
About a week after I had been given this cash, I went on a late night food run with a friend, when I encountered a homeless man who was taking shelter from the less than pleasant weather we were having at the time. The homeless man who was sitting at a table next to us was told by the waitress that he couldn’t be there if he didn’t order anything. I overheard him ask how much a cup of coffee was, counted the few dollars he had in his pocket, and a little reluctantly ordered coffee so he could stay inside.
As I heard all of this, and thinking of the cash I had just received but didn't need, I felt this might be someone I could help. So I engaged the man in some conversation, because I know most people who are homeless don’t get the benefit of casual conversation very often. I learned he was aged 45 and had previously worked as a tree trimmer(修剪工) off the books. Unfortunately about a year ago he fell while working and badly hurt his back and was no longer able to work until he got his back medically addressed. After about 10—15 minutes of conversation I told him that if he felt comfortable accepting my offer, I would buy him whatever food off the menu he wanted. He resisted because he didn’t want to trouble me. I insisted he accept my offer because everyone deserves a warm meal. He eventually accepted and ordered something simple.
    注意:
    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
After paying the bills, I pulled $ 250 out of my wallet and folded it into my pocket.

With tears in his eyes, the homeless man insisted he get my phone number so he could repay me some day.

    Text 1
M: Here is your water with no ice, Miss. Now what would you like to eat? We have a special deal on ham sandwiches—they’re only five dollars each!
W: No, thank you. I would like a salad and some bread.
    Text 2
W: You look so young in this picture, Eric. Let me guess……You were in middle school?
M: That was in my final year of high school. I know because I cut my long hair right before I went to college.
    Text 3
M: Where is my mother? She was sitting down on this bench when I left her half an hour ago.
W: I don’t know. I was looking in the store windows.
M: I hope she’s OK! She's old and sometimes doesn't remember where she is.
    Text 4
W: I’ve been sitting in this position for so long, and my leg has fallen asleep. I have finished two films. When will we land?
M: In about 20 minutes. You should get up and walk around first.
    Text 5
W: What do you think about my reading tonight? Many people came up afterwards and said they were excited to read the book themselves.
M: I bet it'll sell out in no time! Congratulations—you’re going to be famous!
    Text 6
M: Your guitar playing sounds beautiful. You must have played for a long time.
W: Actually, I’ve only taken guitar lessons for a year. I played the piano since I was five years old until last year when I turned sixteen. But I always wanted a guitar, and I finally got one for my birthday. I’ve played every day since then!
M: That’s great! I always wanted to play the guitar, but I never did. Neither of my parents plays music? so they didn’t thinking of getting me a musical instrument. I played a lot of sports instead.
    Text 7
M: Hi, do you have any swimsuits left? I didn’t see any in the window.
W: I’m afraid they’re all sold out for the season. Did you check the clothes in the sales section?
M: Yes, I didn't find anything there. Is it possible that you still have some in your storehouse?
W: Probably not, but I’ll go check. What size are you looking for?
    M: 36 or men’s large.
W: Alright. Please wait here. I'll be back in a few minutes……
    M: Thank you.
W: I’m sorry, but I didn't find anything. It’s the end of summer, so we just sold all our swimsuits. We won’t get any more until spring. If you need one before that, I’m sure you can find it online.
    Text 8
W: What are you going to do on Friday night?
M: Oh, I’m going to have dinner with my mother and my sister.
W: Sounds lovely! Are you going to a restaurant?
M: No. My mother prefers cooking at home, so we’re going to eat at her place.
W: Her place? You don’t live with your mother anymore?
M: No. I moved out during my second year of college, and my sister left right after she graduated from high school.
W: Okay. So how often do you all meet up back at your mother’s?
M: About once a month. But I was too busy with school last month, so I haven’t seen my mother for two months.
W: What about your sister? Do you see her more often?
M: Not really. She’s usually pretty busy at work, so we only see each other at my mother’s.
    Text 9
M: I’m writing a report on bears for biology. I’ve learned many interesting facts about them.
    W: Like what?
M: Well? there are different types of bears that have very different qualities. Polar bears live in the Arctic and panda bears live in the mountains of China. Those two types of bears are in danger of disappearing. In the United States, there are many bears. And there are two main types: black bears and brown bears. Many people can’t tell the difference between them because their colors are often similar, but it’s important to know what kind of bear you’re looking at.
    W: Why’s that?
M: Black bears are mostly harmless……They’ll rarely attack a person. But brown bears might attack a human if they feel threatened.
W: Wow! How do you tell them apart?
M: Brown bears are usually large and have a big space between their shoulders. They eat meat. Black bears are usually much smaller. They mostly eat roots? insects? and fish.
W: Interesting! I didn’t know any of that.
    Text 10
And now, our top news story is from China's space agency, CNSA. China has successfully landed its Chang’e 4 rocket on the far side of the moon. It’s the first man-made object ever to land on the “dark side”, which is always turned away from Earth. Scientists will control a small vehicle that looks like a robot to explore the hidden side of the moon for the first time. The vehicle is studying the environment there and has already sent back pictures sooner than planned. One of the most interesting experiments that the space agency will carry out is the observation of organic life from Earth. The main part of the rocket carried small boxes of plants, soil, and water. Scientists want to learn about the effects of the moon’s low gravity on an Earth-like life system. It will take some time for this to be studied? and the experiment is expected to last a full year. The vehicle's task, however, will only last about three months.
