Months earlier, he wasn't in any condition to run five miles, let alone  miles, the distance of a 30 kilometers. One day, early in the morning, my wife Lisa discovered that our older son, James, had been playing video games since he got home from school the previous day. What she found angered both of us.
We were sick of the amount of time James spent playing video games. He would often sleep until  p.m. on Saturdays because he stayed up playing games until 3:00 in the morning.Driven to break our son's life style, we tried several different approaches, like limiting the amount of time he was allowed to play games each day, but we couldn't find anything that worked consistently. He always seemed to go back to the game, especially when we were not there to monitor him. It's not that I'm against video games; I am just against playing them every waking moment at the expense of exercise. In an attempt to ensure that our kids did not become addicted to games, I came up with an idea: Game time in our house would have to be earned, just like money. Each mile run equals 30 minutes of video-game play. We put no limit on the number of miles James could run in a day, so the only limit to the amount of time he played was based on how far he decided to run. The first couple of days didn't go very well. James got sick of the idea and refused to run at all. Eventually, James decided he would give running a shot.
It never occurred to him that running was giving him a sense of purpose. James even planned to join a marathon and hoped to become the youngest family member to complete one. It was my hope that running teaches him to invest his time in worthwhile causes, not just video games. I never want him to stop challenging himself.
    24. What do we know about James at the beginning?
    A. He stayed up learning.
    B. He was a video game addict.
    C. He was academic.
    D. He could control the amount of time playing games.
    25. What's the author's attitude towards video games?
    A. Indifferent.
    B. Favorable.
    C. Objective.
    D. Opposed.
    26. How did James like running in the end?
    A. It was beneficial and meaningful.
    B. It was tiring and meaningless.
    C. It was boring and difficult.
    D. It was skillful and exhausting.
Increasingly over the last few years, we have become familiar with the range of small electronic devices or "smart" accessories (附件). Pocket heart-rate monitors for joggers and electronic maps are just the first examples of many new products that promise to change our lives in all sorts of surprising ways.As a scientist at New York University, Rosalind Picard tries out different smart accessories before they go on the market. One of these was the so-called "frown (皱眉) headband". Rosalind was shocked to realize just how often she frowned. Stuck in a traffic jam recently, Rosalind kept hearing the sounds of the tiny sensor inside the band worn around her forehead - each time she frowned in annoyance, the sensor gave out a signal.Another computer scientist, Steven Feiner, is working on a pair of glasses that will do more than help you to see. Imagine you want to try a restaurant in a foreign city but you're not familiar with the dishes on the menu. If you are wearing a pair of Steven's glasses, all you have to do is glance above the restaurant's doorway and your glasses will immediately become windows to the Internet, offering you full details of the meals served inside. The glasses could also be used to help people make speeches, give chefs access to the latest recipes and even provide doctors with patient information while they carry out operations.
At the moment, Steven's invention looks more like a large ski mask than a pair of glasses. It's a headset connected to a hand-held computer and a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, which tracks the wearer's position. But he says that these head-worn displays will eventually get smaller and lighter as technology improves.
And, of course, this new technology has a fashionable as well as a useful application. A chemical engineer named Robert Langer has invented a new microchip that, if put inside a ring can give off different smells according to a person's mood. That, of course, may or may not appeal to you. And, in the end, it is shoppers, not scientists, who will determine which of these smart accessories will succeed as fashionable items and which are sure to join history's long list of crazy inventions.
It is clear, however, that as computers get smaller and cheaper, they will pop up in all sorts of easily-wearable accessories, even in the buttons on your coat. What's more, this is something that's going to happen a lot sooner than we all expect.27. How does the second paragraph develop?
    A. By analyzing the cause.
    B. By giving an example.
    C. By making comparison.
    D. By following time order.
    28. Steven's glasses can do the following except __________.
    A. Try and taste the dishes for people in a restaurant.
    B. Offer chefs details about the latest recipes.
    C. Give patient information to doctors.
    D. Provide customers with the information on the meals.
    29. In general, what does the writer think about smart accessories?
    A. Much more research is needed into them.
    B. They will soon be widely available.
    C. Only a few of them will appeal to shoppers.
    D. Most of them are considered to be crazy inventions.
    30. What's the writer's purpose in writing this passage?
    A. To advertise some smart accessories.
    B. To argue that smart accessories are fashionable.
    C. To introduce the idea of smart accessories.
    D. To tell interesting stories about smart accessories.第二节(共5个小,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多佘选项。If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again.         "Breakfast time!" I quickly put on my clothes and rushed down the stairs.
"Come on, we don't want to be late!" My mom said. The aroma(香味) of pancakes filled the kitchen, making the room warm. I looked out of the window. The sun was out, making a warm and bright morning.
"Today's the day, zip lining (高空滑索)!" My dad said, sounding very enthusiastic early this morning.
Today we would go zip lining. The excitement built up inside of me as breakfast went on. After breakfast, we set out in my dad's car. Half way through the ride, the sun grew hot, and the leather on the seats burned my legs. I thought about the trip, how my parents went but not me. It was my first time experiencing something like this. I also thought about my fear of heights, one thing I tried to get rid of multiple times. It got in the way of so many fun activities, like roller coasters at Kings Island. We were basically there by now, the sun still blazing hot. We pulled up to a big sign where our instructor waited for us.
"Hi y'all!" said our instructor cheerfully.
"So, have y'all done this before?"
My parents nodded but I shook my head. Our instructor went over safety instructions while we each put on a safety harness (安全带). I started to get nervous. A never ending roller coaster of excitement and anxiousness built inside of me. I looked down the cliff (悬崖). My heart skipped a beat when the wind howled, blowing leaves and twigs in the trees. My legs started to shake.Paragraph 1 "Alright y'all, time to hit the trails!" said the instructor with too much enthusiasm.
Paragraph 2 My turn finally came.
