When we see babies r pets, we can't help gently tuching them t shw ur lve. And they give us happy feelings back. But a recent study shws that it’s different fr plants.
A study, published in The Plant Jurnal, shws that plants dn’t like t be tuched. That’s because tuching changes their genes(基因) and, even wrse, can slw their grwth. Prfessr Jim Whelan in Australia gave an explanatin. The lightest tuch frm a human, animal, insect, r even plants tuching each ther in the wind, leads t a huge gene change in the plant.
In rder t test the thery, the scientists did an experiment n plants. They grew a number f plants t the age f fur weeks. Then they tuched them with a paintbrush every 12 hurs ver a 36-hur perid. They fund that as the result f the tuch, the mitchndria(线粒体) in the plants had been partly destryed. The mitchndria are the “pwer-huse” f the cell(细胞). The mitchndria prduce energy fr the cells in bth animals and plants. If this “pwer-huse” is weakened, the plants will lse a large amunt f energy that shuld have supprted their grwth.
Whelan further explained, “If the tuching is repeated, then plant grwth is reduced by 30 percent.” Althugh the tuching des have a strng influence n plants, usually the plants can still be alive. Tuching changes the plants, but it’s nt always a bad change. Cntinually tuching r mving plants will make them grw shrter than ther nes. Hwever, in sme ways, this change culd be helpful. It may help plants fight threats t their health such as insects and bad weather.
The new research findings have led t a deeper understanding f the plants. And the research might help with the grwth f plants.

A. T explain why pets lve t be tuched.
