Teaching Objectives

1. Describe a shopping mall
2. Help the students understand the main idea of the text and help them find out the correct structure of writing by using the knowledge of the unit.
3. Learn to share happiness with others and learn to study hard and enjoy life.

Teaching Contents:

1. Words: note, bus stop, restaurant, top
2. Phrases: five floors of shops, on the top floor, from different areas.
3. Learn to make notes before writing.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Lead in

1. Show a video

T: Christmas is coming, do you want to go shopping? Do you like shopping? Here is a little boy, he likes shopping too. And he does some shopping in the shopping mall, let us watch a short video and find out the names of the shops in the video. Ask the students to find the names of the shops: toy store, Supermarket, bakery, candy store, cake shop and bookstore.

2. Play a guessing game

Ask the students to guess what the shop it is according to the description on the ppt. And lead them to review some kinds of shops we learned before.

3. The teacher introduces “shopping mall” by asking the question: Can we find all the shops in one place? Show some pictures about bus stop, car park and a taxi rank, and ask the students how we can get there.

4. Show a picture of Wuyue shopping mall, and tell the students something about the shopping mall: There are four floors of shops in the mall, on the first floor, there is a ....and we can..., on the second floor, there is ....Teach the new word : top and the new phrase: many floors of shops. And let the students think about a question: Why do you like this shopping mall? Because it is a good place to meet friends and have fun.

Step 2 Read and complete

1. Show a picture of Sunshine shopping mall, and let the students read the notes on page 90 and ask the students to think about the questions:

  Where is the shopping mall?

  How many floors are there in the shopping mall?

  Can people buy any books there?

  Where are the restaurants?

  What is Millie’s favorite place?

2. Answer the questions and check the answers.
3. Read the dialogue on the PPT: the teacher reads as A and the students read as B and then exchange.
4. Ask the students to read the dialogue in pairs, one student acts as A and another act as B.
5. Read the notes and complete the article on page 90. And let the students read the article twice.

Step 3 Presentation

1. Show the structure of the article: three parts. And ask them to match the main idea with each part.
2. Show the students what makes a good article: clear structure, clean handwriting and no spelling mistakes.
3. Show the students the structure of writing: introduction, main body and ending.

Step 4 Writing

1. Ask the students what they can see in Star Shopping Mall on page 91.

2. Ask the students to write an article about Star Shopping Mall.

3. Show some articles to the whole class, check and evaluate the article.

4. Show the students a writing evaluation table and tell the students to pay attention to the handwriting and spelling.

Step 5 Summary

1. Learn to talk about different malls.
2. Learn to how to write a good article about shopping mall.
