A books-for-food program in Guatemala is helping feed needy children as hunger rates rise during the pandemic(疫情). It is run by a local nonprofit organization that aims to feed nearly 400 children.
The program is simple. People choose a book they want from a list of donated titles, and in return give bags of Incaparina, a high-protein drink mix. Bonifaz Diaz works for the program. By bringing the books-for-food program directly to people's homes, Diaz makes sure donations keep flowing. He has traveled more than 2, 000 kilometers on his bicycle, delivered loads of books and carried back thousands of kilograms of Incaparina for the nonprofit group 32 Volcanoes. Diaz sometimes pulls a small cart that helps him carry up to 57 kilograms of product. He has traveled as far as 60 kilometers for a delivery to a town in the Western Highlands, where road conditions are poor.
Nearly a year into the books-for-food program, two more cyclists have joined Diaz and donations keep flowing in. Ana Castillo is a 29-year-old high school teacher who recently received the sociology book from Diaz. She donates to the program often. The 1.8 kilograms of Incaparina she provided will help one family eat for a month.
Castillo looks forward to choosing her books from the titles Diaz posts on social media. She also loves the feeling of a "growing circle" of giving and receiving. "You might not get to those places, but your help can," she says.
Diaz says he plans to continue cycling against hunger as long as the need exists. He has faced his own economic difficulties since the theater company he co-founded closed last spring. But the program has kept him active. "It's an opportunity to serve in which we all benefit." Diaz said.
24. What is the purpose of the program?
A. To serve the readers. B. To produce Incaparina.
C. To offer poor children food. D. To fight the pandemic.
25. What did Diaz do for the program?
A. He set up a social media. B. He made donations frequently.
C. He rented a cart to carry goods. D. He traveled to deliver books and food.

A. More people are involved in it. B. Only two cyclists work for it.
C. Over 400 adults benefit from it. D. Financial difficulties put it to an end.
27. Which word best describes Diaz's attitude towards the program?
A. Indifferent. B. Supportive. C. Tolerant. D. Unwilling

A new study has found that animals play dead for long periods of time in order to escape capture from their predators. How long they are motionless depends on the circumstances, but they can wait out their predators for quite a long time when their lives are in danger.
Animals stay still to avoid capture for different lengths of time. "Most interestingly, Charles Darwin recorded a beetle that remained motionless for 23 minutes. Antlions, our favorite study creature in this regard, set a record of 61 minutes," says lead author Nigel R. Franks from the University of Bristol.
Antlions are members of a large group of insects. Antlion larvae(幼虫)dig pits in loose soil and then aggressively attack ants and other small insects that fall into the sandy pits. In another study, researchers dug sandpits to understand the physics of how antlion larvae build their pits. As part of their research, they needed to weigh the individual larvae. When they put them onto the microbalance scale to weigh them, they noticed that the larvae remained motionless for long periods of time. "This made it 'a piece of cake' to weigh them but it aroused researchers' curiosity, 'What on earth were they playing at?'" Franks says.
The researchers found that the amount of time the antlions remained stationary after being disturbed was unpredictable and was often quite lengthy. In researching other animals, they found that how long they wait to move again can depend on factors such as hunger and temperature, but it always varies.
This unpredictability is absolutely crucial for their survival, Franks says. For example, if a bird visits these antlion pits and the larvae "play dead", the birds will fly around the antlions to see if they move. "Imagine if antlions always remained immobile for 5 minutes. In such a case, the predator could look for alternate prey(猎物)and then return to its original one when the time is up," he says. "If that happened, it would be a short life for the predictable antlion." But because the time is unpredictable, the birds leave and go find something else to eat. The predators turn their attention from the unmoving prey that no longer catches their eye to something nearby that is a better alternative.
28. What is the new study about?
A. Animals' hunting skills. B. Animals' living conditions.
C. Animals' self-protecting behavior. D. Animals' means of communication.
29. Why did the author mention another research in paragraph 3?
A. To introduce a new topic for discussion.
B. To offer supporting data for the discovery.
C. To make a comparison between the two studies.
D. To provide some background information on the study.
30. What does the underlined word "stationary" probably mean in paragraph 4?
A. Unmoving. B. Alarmed. C. Energetic. D. Motional.
31. How do antlions take advantage of playing dead according to the last paragraph?
A. By scaring away predators. B. By distracting predators' attention.
C. By staying still for an uncertain amount of time. D. By waiting for predators to be eaten.

There is something to be said for being a generalist, even if you are a specialist. Knowing a little about a lot of things that interest you can add to the richness of a whole, well-lived life.
Society pushes us to specialize, to become experts. This requires commitment to a particular occupation, branch of study or research. The drawback to being specialists is that we often come to know more and more about less and less. There is a great deal of pressure to master one's field. You may pursue training, degrees, or increasing levels of responsibility at work. Then you discover the pressure of having to keep up.
Some people seem willing to work around the clock in their narrow specialty. But such commitment can also weaken their sense of freedom. These specialists could work at the office until ten each night, then look back and realize they would have loved to have gone home and enjoyed the sweetness of their family and friends, or traveled to exciting places, meeting interesting people. Mastering one thing to the exclusion of others can hold back your true spirit.
Generalists, on the other hand, know a lot about a wide range of subjects and view the whole with all its connections. They are people of ability, talent, and enthusiasm who can bring their broad perspective into specific fields of expertise(专长). The doctor who is also a poet and Philosopher, is a superior doctor, one who can give so much more to his patients than just good medical skills.
Things are connected. Let your expertise in one field fuel your passions in all related areas. Some of your interests may not appear to be connected but, once you explore their depths, you discover that they are. My editor Toni, who is also writer, has edited several history books. She has decided to study Chinese history. Fascinated by the structural beauty of the Forbidden City as a painter, she is equally interested to learn more about Chinese philosophy. "I don't know where it will lead, but I'm excited I'm on this pursuit."
These expansions into new worlds help us by giving us new perspectives. We begin to see the interconnectedness of one thing to another in all aspects of our life, of ourselves and the universe. Develop broad, general knowledge and experience. The universe is all yours to explore and enjoy.
32. To become a specialist, you may have to .
A. narrow your range of knowledge B. get pushed by the surroundings
C. know a lot more about society D. be devoted to a special job
33. According to the author, a superior doctor is one who .
A. is a pure specialist in medicine B. is gifted in poetry and philosophy
C. is fully aware of his talent and ability D. brings knowledge of other fields to work
34. What does the author intend to show with the example of Toni?
A. Chinese culture is appealing to people worldwide.
B. One passion alone is not enough to ensure success.
C. In-depth exploration can make discoveries possible.
D. Seemingly unrelated interests are in a way connected.
35. What could be the best title for the passage?
A. Turn a Generalist Into a Specialist B. Be More of a Generalist Than a Specialist
C. Ways to Become a Generalist D. Specialist or Generalist: Hard to Decide
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

You probably know that exercise is good for you. Studies show that it can prevent many major health conditions, including cognitive decline, diabetes, certain cancers and more. 36 " Our lives are completely full. We may have children, aging parents, jobs, partners, and community," says Barbara Hannah Grufferman, author of The Best of Everything After 50.
If you don't have a regular exercise plan, don't worry! There are simple things you can do to get more exercise, no gym membership or hours of commitment required.
Walk-and make it count
Even if you're not in shape, you can likely walk. And that's good news, because many studies illustrate that it's one of the best things we can do for our bodies. Grufferman suggests getting a pedometer(计步器), whether it's a simple mechanical one, or a FitBit or Jawbone. 37 And then, start walking faster and longer-most experts recommend walking 10, 000 steps a day.
Reduce sitting
You've probably heard, "sitting is the new smoking." Well, this means that loads of research has shown that sitting for extended periods of time can have serious health consequences that range from obesity to diabetes and more. 38 It's also essential to take breaks from your sit-down desk.
Run if you can
It might seem out of reach, but if you can add some light running into your daily walk, you'll be better for it. Running can make you happier, strengthen your joints, improve heart health, and improve your memory! 39 Then, go for longer distances gradually.
Make it a habit
To truly make exercise a part of your life you'll need to make it a habit. "The good news is that it's never too late to start," says Grufferman. 40
A. Track your steps because it's very motivating.
B. But finding time to get more exercise can be challenging.
C. Make sure you are more active and have a more enjoyable life.
D. Experts suggest using a standing desk at least some of the time.
E. Like brushing your teeth, you have to build exercise into your life.
F. Some experts suggest alternating jogging and walking to get started.

Use scissors and paste, we made shopping bag and artworks out of them.
