阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

What comes to mind when you think of a museum? Perhaps you picture a building in a rather traditional design made of high-quality stone? Perhaps you imagine one of the classic concepts, such as the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Fine Art, or the National Museum. However, in the UK, some museums are bound to be considered a little unconventional and eccentric . No matter how uncommon your interest is, there’s a museum for you!
What about Neil Cole’s Adventures in Science Fiction? This museum of classic science fiction was opened by founder Neil Cole. Visitors to this Allendale attraction in Northumberland can see items ranging from props used in the BBC series Dr Who to part of Thor’s costume from the Avengers movie. “Science fiction has become more mainstream so I thought people might want to see this,” says Mr Cole.
If clocks are more to your taste, why not visit the Cuckooland Museum? Set up by brothers Roman and Maz Piekarski, this Cheshire collection of over 600 cuckoo clocks is considered to be the largest of its kind in the world – and all from the Black Forest region in Germany.
Finally, you could visit the Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities in London. This offbeat, alternative institution bucks the trend of educating visitors through written explanations alongside its curios. Instead, it displays all of its odd treasures, which include dodo bones, shrunken heads and a collection of McDonald’s Happy Meal toys, with no explanation at all.
These are just a few examples. There are many more wonderful institutions out there that march to the beat of their own drum. All you have to do is go and find them!
21. What does the underlined word “eccentric” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Wonderful. B. Unusual . C. Creative. D. Popular.

C. The Cuckooland Museum. D. The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities.
23. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To introduce the variety of museums. B. To compare different museums.
C. To recommend some unconventional museums. D. To explain the function of museums.

China’s new bullet train is now the world’s fastest land vehicle (交通工具) China Rail-way Rolling Stock Corporation showed the production version of its magnetic levitation (磁悬浮) bullet train in Qingdao on Tuesday. State media says the train has a top speed of 373 mph. That speed doesn’t just make it the fastest train in the world, but makes it the fastest land vehicle. The bullet train is able to travel at such high speeds because of magnetic levitation. The technology uses electro-magnetic force to levitate the body of the vehicle less than two inches from the rails and drive it forward along the tracks. By riding on a cushion of air, friction (摩擦力) is completely reduced, allowing it to travel faster than traditional trains where wheels and rails are constantly in contact. Although China has made use of the technology for a couple decades now, it’s only ever been used at very limited areas.
China Railway says its bullet train will greatly help cut down travel time. At top speedy the vehicle will be able to complete the 754-mile trip between Beijing and Shanghai in just two and a half hours. That same trip takes just over three hours by plane, five and a half hours by current high-speed rail options or 12 hours by car. That could make the train an especially attractive travel option for business travelers in the country. It’s unclear when the new bullet train will go into operation. The vehicle that the company showed off on Tuesday is the finished article.
Of course, the train’s record might not stand for long. The Central Japan Railway Company is testing a maglev train. It will be able to top out at 375 mph, according to New Atlas. But that isn’t expected to be shown in public until 2027 at the earliest. That gives China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation plenty of time to refine and upgrade its bullet train and push its top speed even higher.
24.What can we know about the China’s new bullet train?
A.It is the fastest land vehicle.B.It is close to the speed of sound.
C.It has gone into operation widely.D.It has taken the place of the traditional train.
25.What challenge might China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation face?
A.The poor management of it.B.The lack of money used to improve the train.
C.The competition from Japanese company.D.The shortage of creativity from its engineers.
26.What is the attitude of the author to China’s bullet train?
A.Objective. B.Doubtful.C.Unconcerned. D.Unfriendly.
27.What is the text mainly about?
A.The world’s most costly train. B.The China’s new bullet train.
C.The China’s modem trains. D.The world’s fastest vehicle.

British researchers say they have created an artificial intelligence (AI) model that is highly effective at predicting rainfall within the next 90 minutes.
The model was built by scientists at Google-owned research company DeepMind in London. The company partnered with researchers at the University of Exeter in Britain and the Met Office, the British government’s national weather service. The team says tests of the system showed it produced more accurate predictions, or forecasts, for short-term rainfall than other existing systems.
Accurate nowcasting can be a very important tool for preparing for possible weather emergencies. It can be used by officials in the areas of water management, agriculture, air and ground traffic control and outdoor event planning. “We were especially interested in the ability of these models to make predictions on medium to heavy-rain events, which are the events that most impact people and the economy,” the team said. The scientists said their model aims to create predictive “movies” of immediate weather patterns. They said that, unlike other systems, theirs can accurately capture large-scale events, as well as several different rain possibilities. This combination permits “rainfall uncertainties” to be deeply explored.
During the testing process, the team said the model showed “statistically significant” improvements in these areas compared to competing methods. In addition, the researchers reported that a group of more than 50 weather experts from the Met Office rated the AI model to be more accurate and useful in 89 percent of cases than existing forecasting systems.
Despite the study results, researchers admitted that the model still has limitations. They said “more work is needed to improve the accuracy of long-term predictions and the accuracy on rare and intense events.” The team said it will now center on developing new methods to test and measure the model's performance. It will also work to create more specialized systems to work in real-world conditions.
28. What do we know about the new AI model?
A. The model is created by researchers of Met Office.
B. The model can predict any rainfall within 90 minutes.
C. The model needs improving in long-term forecasting.
D. The model has been used in real-world conditions.
29. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The difficulty of accurate nowcasting.
B. The relationship between weather forecasting and economy.
C. The necessity of building the new AI model.
D. The principles of the new model.
30. Why does the writer mention the weather experts from the Met Office in paragraph 4?
A. To prove the advantage of the new model.
B. To compare the new model with the old systems.
C. To explain the rule of weather forecasting.
D. To show how the existing system works.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Existing Forecasting system Needs Improving
B. AI Predicts Immediate Rainfall Better than Existing Systems
C. New Explorations in Weather Predictions
D. New Methods on Testing the AI Model's Performance

While we may think it feels good to complain, complaining has some bad effects associated with it.
Why isn't complaining beneficial? Research shows that it connects our brain with negativity. The brain is designed to work efficiently. This means that when we repeat a thought negative or positive, the nerve cells form a bridge between each other to pass information in a higher speed. Therefore, the next time we have a similar type of thought, it is more easily passed. This explains why certain thought patterns become habits.
Yet the harmful effects don't stop there. A study shows that complaining causes the hippocampus (海马区), which plays a vital role in problem-solving, to become smaller. In addition to causing brain damage, complaining also releases a stress hormone: cortisol, a kind of chemical the body produces when we meet with some danger. Constantly having a high level of cortisol results in high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and lower immunity.
The ill effects of our complaining aren't just limited to ourselves: they also involve those around us. We tend to mirror the moods of our friends. For this reason, we should be cautious about having stubborn complainers in our circle of acquaintances and companions.
The best way to deal with constant negativity is to develop a sense of gratitude. Just like complaining acts as a poison, gratitude acts as a medicine. Research shows it lowers cortisol levels by 23 percent, as well as reduces blood pressure and blood sugar. It also decreases tiredness and depression. Gratitude is the perfect cure for complaining, a behavior that steals our brain power, happiness and physical well-being.
What have you observed about the effects of complaining in your own life or in the lives of others? Have you noticed that when you are grateful, you feel better all over? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
32. What do paragraphs 2-3 mainly talk about?
A. The bad effects of complaining on brain power.
B. The decrease of a vital part of our brain.
C. The diseases caused by complaining.
D. The reason why certain thought patterns become habits.
33. What can we know about cortisol from the passage?
A. Gratitude functions as an effective cure for cortisol.
B. Having a high level of cortisol can lead to many health problems.
C. Our body produces cortisol when we feel excited.
D Cortisol is a chemical that can cause brain damage.
34. What attitude does the writer take to stubborn complainers?
A. Indifferent. B. Neutral. C. Skeptical. D. Disapproving.
35. What is the purpose of the writer?
A. To encourage readers to share ideas.
B. To introduce different emotions.
C. To analyze the reasons for complaining.
D. To inform readers the effects of complaining.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Travel can be lifesaver. The right vacation at the right time can give new life to your whole
year, not to mention your body and mind. But in today's economy, with airlines adding new
fees almost daily and ticket prices sharply on the rise, many have canceled travel as it is too
expensive.36
An early bird gets the deal. Travel experts say that there are certain times of day when more
deals are available.37 Early morning is when the fares tend to be the lowest, but it is good
idea to check every five hours to track prices as they change throughout the day. Also, it's a good
idea to check again at 5 p.m., when the airlines are trying hardest to fill empty seats.
Avoid the crowds.38 The slowest time of the year for travel is in the Fall between
Labor Day and Thanksgiving.Again, to try andfill more vacant (空着的) seats, the airlines will
lower prices and offer better deals to get people to fly during this time of the year.
Right time, "wrong"place? By flying to popular destinations at unpopular times, you can secure the
best prices from travel companies and airlines. Here's where flexibility in your planning can
pay off. Going to the airline websites and planning your vacation around the best ticket prices
offered can result in a fun, cost-effective vacation. 39
40 Many times the best deals on airfare can be found as part of a package rate. Most
travel sites have package ratesavailable and they are definitely worth a look. Often, the entire
package (hotel, airfare, rental car) is cheaper than just the plane ticket on another site.
A.Package deals.
B.Save money, and save time.
C.Fly to popular places at unpopular times.
D.These deals are especially good on last-minutebookings.
E.Airfares can change three times a day as airlines adjust their prices to fill up flights.
F. And maybe it can widen your horizons toa place you might never have considered.
G.However, with a few tricks, there are still many great deals to be had on air tickets.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I have already forgotten the name of that old lady. Yet I still remember the matter as if it happened yesterday. It is she who teaches me a lesson in forgiveness.
It happened when I was twelve years old. That summer holiday, I planned to earn some pocket money by delivering the newspaper in our neighborhood. And she was a customer on my paper route. She was a kind lady and every time I gave her the paper, she would give me some cookies.
On a mindless Saturday afternoon, a friend and I were throwing rocks onto the roof of the old lady’s house from a quiet spot in her backyard. The purpose of our play was to observe how the rocks changed to missiles (导弹) as they rolled to the roof’s edge and shot out into the yard like comets (彗星) falling from the sky.
I found myself a perfectly smooth rock and sent it for a ride. The stone was too smooth, however, so it slipped from my hand as I let it go. Seeing it headed straight for a small window on the old lady’s back porch (门廊), we stood there, numb with fear. The sound of broken glass awoke us from the fear and the next second, we ran away from the old lady’s yard faster than any of our missiles flowing off her roof.
After coming back home, I was so scared of getting caught that I dared not go out that whole afternoon. I stayed at home, glancing at my front yard nervously from time to time, feeling that lady would knock at our door at any time. But until I went to bed, what I was afraid didn’t happen. Lying in bed, I wondered whether she didn’t discover the broken window or she didn’t discover who had done it? That was a sleepless night.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next morning, I delivered the paper to her as usual.

作文1
An Unforgettable Experience
On Double Ninth Day, my classmates and I worked as volunteers at the nearby health care center, which really means a lot to us youngsters.
Fully prepared, we went to different posts and started our work. Some spent time chatting with the elderly, some were busy cleaning up, and others made dumplings together. After lunch, we put on performances for the elderly, and they were delighted for what we had done.
Through the volunteer activities, not only can I understand the elderly better, but also I can improve the sense of responsibility for caring about them.
作文2
Paragraph1:
The next morning, I delivered the paper to her as usual. On the way to her home, so nervous was I that I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. But to my surprise, I saw the broken glass had been repaired and she didn’t mention it. When I handed her the paper, she still greeted me and gave me some cookies as usual. Holding these cookies in my hand, a feeling of guilt swept over me and I determined that I would save my paper delivery money to make up for the broken window.
Paragraph 2:
After three weeks, I earned seven dollars and put them in an envelope. I secretly put it through the letter box in her door. After doing this, I suddenly felt in relief. The next day, I handed the old lady her paper and thanked her for the bag of cookies. When I opened the bag, I was stunned. Inside were the seven dollars and a short note that said, “I’m proud of you.”She knew it was me. But instead of blaming and punishing me, she chose to forgive me. Even so many years later, she is still deeply engraved in my mind, who taught me a valuable lesson in my life.
