Accrding t ne legend, nce in ancient times, a celestial swan came int the mrtal wrld where it was sht dwn by a hunter. The Jade Emperr, the highest gd in Heaven, vwed t avenge the swan. He started making plans t send a trp f celestial sldiers and generals t Earth n the fifteenth day f the first lunar mnth, with rders t incinerate all humans and animals.
But the ther celestial beings disagreed with this curse f actin, and risked their lives t warn the peple f Earth. As a result, befre and after the fifteenth day f the first mnth, every family hung red lanterns utside their drs and set ff firecrackers and firewrks, giving the impressin that their hmes were already burning. By successfully tricking the Jade Emperr in this way, humanity was saved frm exterminatin.
Eating yuanxia (sweet dumplings made with glutinus rice flur) is ne f the special traditins f Lantern Festival. Lantern Festival is als called Yuanxia Festival. Anther name fr yuanxia is tangyuan, which literally means "biled spheres."
