My kid's new school is a construction area now. Even though the new building is very exciting, in the meantime there is no real playground for all the kids to use. They just run around the front of the school during the lunch break.
This gets me thinking about starting a book club for the upper elementary kids to meet in during lunch. This idea has the added benefit of giving my very shy daughter a chance to make some connections with other kids who like books as much as she does.
This is how I'm starting our book club. After getting permission from the principal and finding a space in the school to hold our meetings, I'll send out a flier(传单)in our Friday school notes with my contact information. At our first meeting we'll think of a name for our book club and decide together on the first two books we will read.
I absolutely love the idea of a mother-daughter book club. The reason is that my friend, mother of a teenage daughter, told me she always tried to befriend all the mothers of her daughter's friends. As a group they're better able to know what the girls are doing.
Now that my daughter is in the fourth grade and we're at a new school, I'm feeling especially drawn to start forming relationships with the mothers of her friends. A book club seems like a good way to do that with the added benefit of getting to open up communication between daughters and mothers, because in a few years a lot of our daughters won't really want to talk to us.
24. What is the original reason why the author wants to start a book club?
A. Her daughter is too shy.
B. There are no books for children to read.
C. There is no playground for children to play on.
D. The children fail to communicate with each other.
25. What can we know about the book club according to the text?
A. Her daughter's grades will promote.
B. It can help her daughter communicate with others.
C. His daughter is more and more fond of reading in the book club.
D. This makes his daughter more and more busy with her housework.
26. Why does the author claim she likes mother-daughter clubs?
A. The club attracted more students to read.
B. His daughter can make more good friends.
C. It's easy for her to get to know her daughter better.
D. His daughter likes to communicate with more people.
27. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To share a valuable plan. B. To apply for joining a book club.
C. To give the school a piece of advice. D. To ask people to befriend by reading.

A major new facility to pull CO2 out of the atmosphere has started operating in Iceland. Experts say the new technology could eventually play an important role in reducing greenhouse gases.
The plant in southwest Iceland is the biggest of its kind. It is able to capture 900 tons of CO2 every year but it needs heat and electricity to work. It is using energy produced from waste and is built on the roof of a waste incineration(焚烧)plant, and through the burning of rubbish, energy is generated.
Human-sized fans are built into a series of boxes. They take CO2 out of the air, catching it in spongelike filters(过滤器). The filters are exploded with heat, freeing the gas, which is then mixed with water and pumped(用泵输送)into deep underground caves, where over time it turns into dark-gray stone. Pumping CO2 into the ground is just one way to deal with it. The makers are also selling the gas to be used again. The CO2 can be captured just a few 100 miles away. It is pumped through an underground pipeline directly into a greenhouse. Vegetables and plants love CO2 and higher concentrations of the gas within the greenhouse improve the growth of plants.
By 2050, humanity will need to pull nearly a billion metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year through direct air capture technology to achieve carbon neutral goals. The plant in Iceland will be able to capture 4, 000 metric tons annually-just a small amount of what will be necessary, but one that Climeworks, the company that built it, says can grow rapidly as efficiency improves and costs decrease.
"This is a market that does not yet exist, but a market that urgently needs to be built," said Christoph Gebald who co-founded Climeworks. "This plant is really the blueprint to further increase the size and really industrialize."
28. How does the carbon capture facility work?
A. It needs heat and water to work.
B. Energy is produced by burning waste.
C. Carbon capture generates a lot of heat and electricity.
D. It produces lots of heat and electricity during operation.
29. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. The methods of breaking down CO2. B. The approaches to reusing waste gas.
C. The necessity of building greenhouses. D. The workings of the carbon-catching plant.
30. What can we expect from the future carbon capture technology?
A. It will decrease the cost of energy production.
B. It can help reach the carbon neutral goals in advance.
C. It will speed up the reduction of CO2 levels in the air.
D. It may replace the traditional carbon storage system.
31. What is Christoph Gebald's attitude towards building the plants?
A. Supportive. B. Neutral. C. Disapproving. D. Uncaring.
D
"We are what we eat"-or so the saying goes. From high-calorie meals to low-fat lunches, much of our health depends on what we eat. We know about the benefits of eating properly for our physical well-being, but food and cooking it is proving to be good for our mental well-being as well.
Some people are now advocating the therapeutic(治疗的)value of cooking food. It's not just about the end result but the experience someone goes through.
TV chef and author Nadiya Hussain agrees that cooking is great for helping our mind. She loves to bake and became the champion of the TV show, The Great British Bake Off. She says that "Baking's always been about therapy It's never really been about the cake." And she thinks that baking is an important tool for our socialisation and mental health.
Certainly, creating some delicious food has helped some of us get through the recent lockdown; it's helped take our mind off things and given us something to do. People have said that kneading dough(面团)to make bread, for example, has given them a sense of calm and control. Research has shown that doing creative tasks, like cooking, makes us feel happier. Nicole Farmer, who studies how food impacts our biology, behavior and mental health, told BBC online that "cooking represents the shared human experience of food, and nurturing people through food, so I think that's where it integrates opportunity into immediate positive emotions".
Of course, cooking can be a very sociable activity and sharing the end result, a rewarding experience. Hopefully, as we start to mix with friends and family again, we can enjoy the benefits once more and put us all in the right frame of mind.
32. What does the underlined word "well-being" mean in the first paragraph?
A. Happiness. B. Recovery. C. Preference. D. Influence.
33. Why does the author mention "TV chef and author Nadiya Hussain" in paragraph 3?
A. To explain a regulation. B. To support a viewpoint.
C. To present a fact. D. To make a prediction.
34. How does cooking do good to people during the lockdown?
A. By creating delicious food. B. By offering a sense of quietness.
C. By impressing human experience of food. D. By drawing one's attention to be occupied.
35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. We Are What We Eat B. How Food Affects Our Behavior
C. Cooking Benefits Mental Health D. Cooking Helps Connect Friends and Family

How to Break Bad Habits
Habits are ways of dealing with issues in your environment. You often do not think about them. James Clear, in his book Atomic Habits, describes a four-step process by which habits are made. These steps are cue(提示), craving(渴望), response, and reward.
A cue is a signal. 36 . A craving is a desire for something. The response, or reaction, is the habit that you perform. The response gives you a reward.
37 . Perhaps you are learning new words or expressions. But then you feel the need to check your phone. You return to your studies, only to look again at your phone a short time later. This process, when repeated many times, could reduce your ability to learn new material. 38 -a custom or repeated action that has a negative effect on you or your goals.
James Clear notes that to break bad habits, you need to think about each step in the habit-making process. In the cell phone example, the cue is seeing the cell phone. The craving is the desire or urge to check your phone. 39 . The reward might be seeing something interesting on social media. To break a habit, he writes, you should think about making the bad habit invisible, unattractive, difficult and unsatisfying by hiding it away, stopping checking, increasing the space between you and your phone. making a habit contract(合同) and so on.
The important thing to remember is that people can change their habits. Habit changes take time. 40 .

The young woman was feeling a little sad on that Sunday in May. After all, it was Mother's Day and 800 miles separated her from her parents in Ohio.
She had called her mother that morning to wish her a happy Mother's Day, and her mother had mentioned how colorful the yard was with spring arriving. The young woman could almost smell the fragrance of purple lilacs(丁香花)hanging on the big bush outside her parents' back door.
Later, when she mentioned to her husband how she missed those lilacs, he said, "I know where we can find all you want."
So off they went with the kids, driving along the country roads of northern Rhode Island on the kind of day-only mid-May can produce.
Where they stopped, there wasn't a lilac insight. "Come with me," the man said. "Over that hill is an cellar(地下室)hole, from somebody's farm of years ago, and there are lilacs all round it. The man who owns this land said I could hang around here anytime. He won't mind if picking a few lilacs.
Before they got halfway up the hill, the fragrance of the lilacs drifted down to them, and the kids started running. Soon, the mother began running, too, until she reached the top.
There were the towering lilacs bushes with beautiful flowers. The woman walked among the lilacs. Carefully, she picked some lilacs.
Finally they returned to their car for the trip home. When they were within three miles of Home, she suddenly shouted to her husband, "Stop the car. Stop right here!"
The man stopped the car. The woman was out of the car and running towards the top of the hill with lilacs still in her arms. At the top of the hill was a nursing home. The parents were outdoors walking with relatives or sitting on the porch(门廊). The young woman went to the end of the porch, where an elderly patient was in her wheel chair, alone, head bowed.

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
