第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don't know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have for one night. It's best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to do.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both anxious and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I'm not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you'll get used to it. Don't be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you're afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it's really not bad at all. Don't worry.
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been home schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.

It was the 9th day of Wuhan lockdown (封锁) starting on January 23. My parents left because they had been running fever(发烧) for several days and they were showing other symptoms of COVID-19.
The virus(病毒), COVID-19, is somehow fearsome because it does not discriminate(区别对待) in choosing who it infects. And if the older people were infected, the situation could be worse, so I was wondering whether my parents would make it.
On the second day, my parents called and asked me how I was. We talked using telephones, and the moment I saw mom lying there with an oxygen mask and my dad could not talk without breathing heavily, I realized that I had to live on my own.
But two weeks later, I got a fever and had to go into quarantine (隔离) to be
observed for 14 days. Fortunately, my illness turned out to be not COVID-19.
Everything there was busy, and there seemed to be a shortage of medical staff and materials were in short supply. Even though the doctors and nurses were covered from head to toe, I could see how tired they were when I looked into their bloodshot eyes. Most of the patients were really understanding, but of course there were those who were not, and complained loudly, but all the doctors and nurses tried their best to deal with it in a calming way.
When the quarantine was over, every patient thanked the workers for what they had done, but the answer they received was exactly the same: “That’s what we’re here for.”
- When did the author’s parents leave her for the hospital?

- The patients were too tired.
- The virus infects the older more easily.
- What may the author think of the medical workers according to the passage?

My school appeared on the news last week because we had made an important change in our local area. Our class had planted a large garden where there was once only a vacant lot. It was a lot of work but it was all worth it. I got blisters(水疱)from digging, and we all got insect bites, too.
I learned a lot about gardening and teamwork, and then I learned about the media. Our teacher telephoned the TV station and informed them of what we had done. She spoke with the producer. The producer checked with the directors, but they said there were plenty of stories similar to ours. They wanted to know what was special about our garden, because many schools planted gardens.
The teacher explained that, after going on the Internet to learn about the prairie( 北 美草原),we had made a prairie garden. We had been to a prairie and gotten seeds from the plants, and then we planted them. We did not water the garden, but we did weed it. We decided to let nature water it with rain, because that was how prairies grew in the past. We sent a picture of the garden to the news station. In the picture, the grass was so high that it stood taller than the fourth grade students.
As a result, the producer sent a reporter to our school. The reporter interviewed the headmaster and asked him many questions about the garden. After that, the headmaster interviewed us, and explained to him what we had learned through this project.
That night, we watched the news, and there we were. The news reporter told our story. It was only two minutes long, but it was us. We were famous. All that work, all those blisters, it was worth it. We knew that when we saw the garden every day, but now we knew that the whole city thought so, too.
- What seemed to be the TV directors' first reaction to the garden?
- They were excited. B. They were surprised.
C. They were uninterested. D. They were worried.
- What is special about the garden?
- The seeds came from the plants of a prairie.
- The grass grew faster than common grass.
- We sent a picture of it on the Internet.
- Underground water was used for the plants
- What does the underlined word "that work "refer to in the last paragraph?
- Our blisters on our hands.
- Our hard work planting the garden.
- The garden we planted.
- The news we watched.
- What can you learn from the passage?
- All roads lead to Rome. B. Never too late to learn.
C. Practice makes perfect. D. Hard work pays off.

By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat? A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it's not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients(营养物) that enter our body.
Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene(番茄红素), the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohio State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”
A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people's health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.
Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook.
What cooked with the vegetables can also be important? When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.
32. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A. people should eat more vegetables
B. the way people eat vegetables is important
C. eating vegetables is good for us
D. how much vegetables one should eat
33. The people who eat the raw vegetables for a long time will ________.
A. have the eyes problems B. have heart disease
C. be in need of lycopene D. hate eating tomatoes
34. The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________.
A. the place where the vegetables are grown
B. the way how the vegetables are stored
C. the way how the vegetables are prepared
D. the price at which the vegetable are sold
35. From the last paragraph, we can know ________.
A. it's better to cook vegetables with the fat
B. the more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat
C. it's better to cook the vegetables without salt
D. the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables

When I was about 12, I had an enemy, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings. Week by week, little by little, her list grew: I was very thin; I wasn't a good student; I talked too much; I was too proud; I didn't like to help others; I didn't finish my homework; I didn't care for anyone and so on. I tried to hear all these as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. And I was too upset and didn't know what to do next. I felt I was the worst girl in the world. Life was hard for me at that time. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes for help.
He listened to me quietly, and then he asked, “Are the things she said true or not? Janet, didn't you ever wonder what you're really like? Well, you now have that girl's opinion. That is a good thing. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said. That is OK.”
Then I did as my father told me. To my great surprise, I discovered that about half of the things she said to me were true. Some of them I couldn't change (like being very thin), but a good number of the things I could—and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I go to fairly clear picture of myself. I never feel upset now.
I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to look at it. I felt very surprised.

Dear Simon,
Thank you for your letter. You say you don't have enough time to do your homework I think you'd better plan your day carefully. It will be a good choice to make a list of all the homework you have to do. This will give you an idea of how much free time you can have to play basketball. Don't give up your hobby but do not forget about your study, either. You should keep a balance between study and bobby.
I hope my advice will be of some value to you
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
Paragraph 1:
“That's just for you,” he said. “You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears, feeling angry and upset. When something someone said about you is true, you'll find it will be of help to you. Our world is full of people who think they know your duty. Don't shut your ears. Listen to them all, but hear the truth and do what you know is the right thing.”
Paragraph 2:
Daddy's advice has returned to me at many important moments. In my life, I've never had a better piece of advice. Rivers push me to the vast sea; the dawn brings me bright morning; my dear daddy, you help me a lot. It is you who lead me to a magnificent life. Thank you for illuminating my voyage of life with your own light of life. And my grateful sentiment comes from the bottom of my heart.
