表示过去某个时间点或者过去某个阶段正在进行或发生的事情。He was cking at six last night.（过去某个时间正在发生的动作）     I was staying here frm March t May last year.（过去某段时间正在发生的动作） 
 at nine last night /  at that time=at that mment= then at this time yesterday  the whle mrning all day yesterday 2. …when the teacher came in. / …. while he was reading.提示的从句中。3. 前面早就阐明是过去进行时的短文或对话中。
主语+ be（was/were）+ding（现在分词）We were watching TV frm seven t nine last night.What was he researching all day last Sunday？It was raining when they left the statin.
  动词原形变为现在分词的规则
（1）肯定句：I + was + ding：I was reading an interesting stry bk at that time. She/He/It  + was +ding：Tm was reading an interesting stry bk then. We/Yu/They + were + ding：They are reading an interesting stry bk at seven last night. 
（2）一般疑问句：be动词提到句首Were yu reading an interesting stry bk at that time? was Tm reading an interesting stry bk then?Were they  reading an interesting stry bk at seven last night? （3）否定句：be动词后加ntI wasn’t  reading an interesting stry bk at that time. Tm wasn’t reading an interesting stry bk then. They weren’t reading an interesting stry bk at seven last night. 
过去进行时表示过去某段时间内持续进行的动作或者事情。We were watching TV frm seven t nine last night.2. 过去进行时可以表示在过去某个时间点发生的事情。What was she ding at nine 'clck yesterday？
3.在复合句中，如果主要动作和背景动作都是延续的或同时发生的，那么主从句的动词都可用过去进行时。While he was waiting fr the bus, he was reading a newspaper.He was cleaning his car while I was cking.
注意：通常不能用于过去进行时的动词主要有：agree， be， believe， belng， care， frget， hate， have（拥有）， hear， knw， like， lve， mean， mind， ntice， wn， remember， seem， suppse， understand， want， wish等。I knew the answer. I didn't understand him.
