一、Teaching content
1. Talk about the importance of wildlife protection.
2. Talk about the ways to protect wildlife.
二、Important words and phrases
1. decrease v. 减少;(使大小、数量)变少或变小------reduce 减少(近义词)--------increase v. n. 增加,增大(反义词)
decrease from.....to... 从.........减少
decrease by ....... 降低了..........
decrease in .... 在.........方面减少
eg. This species of bird is decreasing in number every year.
2. die out 灭亡;逐渐消失
eg. Many animals have died out in the past few years.
die of 因(饥饿、寒冷、年老、感情、疾病等身体内部原因)死亡
die from 因(伤、事故等意外情况或身体外部原因)死亡
3. in peace 和平地;和睦地;安静地
4. hunt v. 打猎;搜寻n. 搜寻;寻找
eg. Lions sometimes hunt alone.
hunt for=search for 搜寻;追捕;追踪
hunter n. 猎人
hunting n. 狩猎运动;打猎
5. in danger (of) 处于危险中;垂危 ----dangerous adj. 危险的----endangered adj.(动、植物)有绝种危险的;濒危的-----endanger vt. 危及;使遭到危险
eg. Some birds are in danger of dying out.
Smoking endangers your health.
be in danger 处于危险之中,强调主语处于某种危险之中;
in danger of 有..........的危险,后接动名词或动名词短语。
6. respond vi. 回答;对........回应;作出反应
eg. She didn’t respond to my question.
The doctor responded that he could not tell the name of the disease.
7. distant adj. 遥远的;远离的;关系远的(亲戚)
distance 距离
keep sb. at a distance 与某人保持一定距离;不愿与某人亲近
8. in relief 如释重负;松了口气
eg. In relief I fell asleep soon.
9. mercy n. 仁慈;怜悯;宽恕
without mercy 无情地
show mercy to sb.= have mercy on sb. 同情/怜悯某人
10. certain adj. 确定的;一定;某一
be certain of/ about sth. 对........有把握
be certain that......... 确信..........
It is certain that.... 一定会.........(sure 不能用it 做形式主语)
make certain of / that 确保.........
for certain 一定,确定
certain意为“某种;某位”时,常用作定语,修饰单数或复数名词。
11. protect .........from.... 保护.......不受.....(伤害)
eg. we must protect plants from the cold.
stop/prevent/keep sb./sth. from doing sth. “阻止/防止某人干某事;阻止/防止某事发生”。
eg. Nothing can stop/prevent/keep us from doing that.
12. contain vt. 包含;包括;(能)容纳;控制
辨析contain 与include
1)contain 用于表示包含所含之物的全部或部分,且侧重所包含的成分,着重“内有”
eg. This book contains all the information you need.
2) include侧重表示“被包含者只是整体中的一部分”
eg. Please include me in the list.
13. affect vt. 影响;感染;打动
affect 当“影响”讲时,是及物动词=have an effect on,宾语为被影响的事物;
effect 当“影响,效果,结果”讲时,是名词;用作动词时,意为“产生,引起”=produce。
14. pay attention to 注意,倾心,重视
eg. Pay attention to making notes when necessary.
15. appreciate vt. 理解;重视;欣赏;鉴赏;感激
appreciation n.
appreciative adj. 欣赏的;感激的
I would appreciate it if ... 如果……,我将不胜感激。
注意: appreciate 作“感激”讲时,后跟事或物,而thank 后跟人。
16. succeed v. 成功;接替;继任;继承----success n. 成功;成就----sucessful adj. 成功的
succeed in (doing) sth. 成功干某事
succeed to sth. 继承.......
eg. He succeeded in getting a place at art school.
三、Sentence structures
1. “I’d like to see some endangered wildlife,” she said. (P26, reading)
I’d like to do..... 我想..........
eg. I’d like to think over the problem.
2. It shows the importance of wildlife protection, but I’d like to help as the WWF suggests. (P26, reading)
as 引导方式状语从句,“按照........”
eg. You’d better learn English as the teacher suggests.
3. Nobody knows for sure why and how dinosaurs disappeared from the earth in such a short time. (P30, Using Language)
for sure 必定;一定
eg. We don’t know for sure whether he will come or not.
四、Reading
Step 1 Lead-in
Show some pictures of some endangered animals and let the students name them. (polar bear, milu deer, rhino, tiger, crocodile, leopard, koala, panda, dolphin, giraffe…)
Questions: 1. Do you often see these animals?
2. What problems are some animals facing nowadays? Why?
Step 2 Warming-up
Discuss the questions with the partners.
1. Why are the animals in danger?
(1. Don’t have enough food; 2. Being hunted and killed; 3. The bad environment ;)
2. What measures should be taken to protect the endangered animals?
((1) Treat the animals as our friends; (2) We shouldn’t kill them freely. (3) We should protect the environment around us. (4) We should collect money to protect animals.)
Step 3 Reading
Task 1: Scanning
1. What three places has she been to?
2. What problems face the animals?
3. What endangered animals are they?
Task 2: Skimming
1. Read the passage carefully and fill in the chart on page 27.
2. Answer the questions. (P27)
Step 4 Post-reading (Translate the sentences)
