Vincent Van Ggh(文森特·梵高)，fr whm clur was the main symbl f expressin，was brn in GrtZundert，Hlland in 1853.He was brught up in a cultured family.Vincent was highly emtinal and wasn't self­cnfident.Between 1860 and 1880，when he finally decided t becme an artist，Van Ggh had tw unhappy lve stries and wrked unsuccessfully in Belgium.He remained there t study art，and decided t give happiness by creating beauty.Of the wrks f his early Dutch perid，the mst famus is The Ptat Eaters.
In 1886 he went t Paris t jin his brther Thé，the manager f Gupil's gallery.In Paris，Van Ggh studied with Crmn，later met Pissarr，Mnet，and Gauguin，and began t lighten his very dark palette(调色板)．His nervusness made him a difficult persn t get alng with and night­lng discussins and painting all day undermined his health.He decided t g suth t Arles where he hped his friends wuld jin him and help set up a schl f art.Gauguin did jin him but with bad results.Near the end f 1888，Van Ggh ran after Gauguin with an pen razr(剃须刀)，was stpped by him，but ended up cutting a part f his wn ear ff.It led Gauguin t finally leave Arles.
