Legless Man Cnquered Qmlangma
Chinese duble­amputee(双腿被截肢者)climber Xia Byu n Mnday was crwned as the Laureus Sprting Mment f the Year 2019 winner，a wrld­class title given t internatinal sprtsmen t hnr their remarkable achievements，and in Xia's case，it is a breathe­taking ne，t.Xia made his name knwn in and beynd China n May 14，2018，when he became the first Chinese duble­amputee climber t reach the summit f Munt Qmlangma.
But the 70­year­ld man's stry with the wrld's highest muntain started decades ag，when Xia jined the Chinese muntaineering team in 1974.During his first climb in 1975，the yung Xia gave his sleeping bag t a teammate wh had lst his wn due t physical exhaustin.When they reached the ft f the muntain，Xia discvered that his feet had n feeling.Unfrtunately，his legs had t be amputated.Hwever，he did nt feel regretful fr starting the missin r fr giving up the chance f survival t thers.He later gt prsthetic(假肢的) legs.T fulfill his dream f reaching the tp f the muntain，he trained every day and did utdr sprts.Hwever，Xia later discvered that he had lymph cancer(淋巴癌)，and he had t wrk harder instead f giving up.
In 2014，he restarted his challenge f climbing the muntain，but had t stp due t an avalanche(雪崩)．In 2016，his attempt was stpped again because f an earthquake and blizzard.
He made his fifth attempt in 2018 and even said that he had feared it wuld be his last.“Reaching the summit f Qmlangma has always been a dream and gal.I have fught fr it ver the past decades.Despite several bad things，I never gave up.The perseverance has made my life clrful and meaningful，” Xia tld Chinese media.
Xia added that his next gal will be “7＋2”，that is，the highest summits f seven cntinents，plus the Suth and Nrth ples.In May，Xia will attempt t climb Munt Elbrus，the highest muntain in Eurpe.
