Stephen Wiltshire is a famous artist. His drawings—often drawn from memory and at great speed—are sketched on the spot at street level.
Stephen, who was born in London in 1974, didn't say a word as a small child, and found it hard to relate to other people. At the age of five, Stephen was sent to Queensmill School, London, where it soon became apparent that he communicated through the language of drawing. His teachers encouraged him to speak by taking away his art materials for a short time; eventually he said his first words—“paper” and “pencil”—but didn't learn to speak fully until the age of nine.
Stephen loved drawing and he was seldom to be found without pen and paper. Once he took part in art competitions, news of his great talent began to spread. Early fans included the late Prime Minister Edward Heath who bought his drawing of Salsibury Cathedral, made when Stephen was just eight.
But Stephen came to wider public attention when the BBC featured him in the programme, “The Foolish Wise Ones” in 1987, when he was introduced by Sir Hugh Casson (a past president of the Royal Academy), as “the best child artist in Britain”.
After that, Stephen's reputation grew worldwide. A second BBC documentary in 2001 showed Stephen flying over London in a helicopter and later completing a detailed drawing of London within three hours, which included 12 historic landmarks and 200 other structures.
In 2006, Stephen was recognised for his services to the art world, when he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire. Today wherever Stephen goes, people are attracted by his outstanding talent.

Every year, thousands of teenagers participate in programs at their local art museums. But do any of them remember their time at museum events later in life? A new report suggests that the answer is yes—and finds that alumni(毕业生) of arts-based museum programs credit them with changing the course of their lives, even years after the fact.
The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently asked researchers to conduct a study to find out how effective their long-standing teen art programs really were. They involved over 300 former participants of four programs for teens that have been in existence since the 1990s. Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact.
Among the alumni (surveyed), 75 percent of them rated the teen program experience as the most favorable impact on their own lives, beating family, school and their neighborhoods. Nearly 55 percent thought that it was one of the most important experiences they'd ever had, regardless of age. And two-thirds said that they were often in situations where their experience in museums affected their actions or thoughts.
It turns out that participating in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic about the arts even after they reach adulthood: 96 percent of participants had visited an art museum within the last two years, and 68 percent had visited an art museum five or more times within the last two years. Thirty-two percent of participants work in the arts.
Though the study is the first of its kind to explore the impact of teen-specific art programs in museums, it reflects other research on the important benefits of engaging with the arts. A decade of surveys by the National Endowment for the Arts have found that teenagers' experiences with the arts are significantly associated with their income and educational attainment as adults. Other studies have linked art education to everything from lower dropout rates to improvement in critical thinking skills.
8.What does the underlined phrase “the fact” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Changing the course of children's life.
B.Participating in teen art programs.
C.Organizing arts-based museum programs.
D.Remembering the time in museum events.
9.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The result of the study.
B.The process of the study.
C.The approach to the study.
D.The object and content of the study.
10.What can be inferred from the study mentioned in the text?
A.Passion for the arts may remain long in kids' whole life.
B.No other studies exist concerning the benefits of the arts.
C.Age matters in how people view their art experiences.
D.Most children taking part in art programs will work in the arts.
11.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.How Are the Arts Connected to Our Life?
B.Can Art Education Affect Our Income?
C.What Should Art Museums Do for Teens?
D.Should Teens Walk into Art Museums?
D
An unconventional new initiative(倡议) in Canada will soon allow doctors to prescribe art to their patients—by giving them free access to a local museum. Wandering through the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts(MMFA), these patients and their loved ones will be able to feast their eyes on the peaceful collections of art.
The initiative is the first of its kind in the world. And while you certainly can't replace a conventional treatment with a couple of paintings, the idea is for such “prescriptions” to assist a person's current treatment plan. Under the new program, members of the Francophone Association of Doctors in Canada (MFDC) will be able to hand out up to 50 prescriptions for their patients.
These prescriptions will be available for those with a wide range of mental and physical illnesses, and each of them will allow two adults and two children to visit the museum for free.
“By offering free admission to a safe, welcoming place, a relaxing experience, a moment of relief, and an opportunity to strengthen ties with loved ones, MMFA-MFDC Museum Prescriptions contribute to the patient's well-being and recovery,” explains a press release from the MMFA.
It may look a lot like a marketing effort for the museum (and it's possible that there's an element of promotion in this), but there's also increasing evidence that the display of visual art, especially if it's depicting nature, can have positive effects on health outcomes.
In some ways, the benefits of looking at art appear a little similar to physical activity. A systematic review of clinical art therapy (疗法) found that visual art has significant and positive effects on depression, anxiety, moods, and self-esteem. Findings like these are slowly gaining attraction in the medical community, making artwork a higher priority (优先) in hospitals around the world.
In the US, nearly half of all health care institutions have reported including art in health care programming, such as art therapy and the placement of visual art in hospitals. With spaces dedicated (致力于) to art therapy and also a medical consultation room, the MMFA already provides services for people with mental health issues, eating disorders, and Alzheimer's disease, just to name a few.
12.How will some Canadian doctors treat their patients?
A.Introducing fine arts to their patients.
B.Entertaining them in a peaceful and welcoming place.
C.Keeping them company through the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
D.Giving them a prescription to access a local museum for free.
13.MMFA thinks the new initiative in Canada can .
A.help patients to recover
B.be a chance to make friends
C.be the best option for the treatment plan
D.be a substitute for conventional treatment
14.Why does the museum join in the program?
A.To make visual art known to the public.
B.To promote the museum into market.
C.To strengthen ties with doctors.
D.To advance the science of medicine.
15.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.Fine arts will take the place of medicine.
B.Artists rarely suffer from mental diseases.
C.More than 50 prescriptions are available for patients.
D.Art will be included in Canadian doctors' prescriptions.

How to Be a Good Tourist
We travel not only for work but also for fun and learning. New restaurants, galleries, temples and new architecture...These places are homes for people like us who live and work there. How would you want visitors to behave in your own home? Think about it. 16 There are many ways of doing this without sacrificing our own holiday.
Do your homework. 17 Guides will help you when you get to the site, but is that the best place to go? Is it popular only because the one-day tourist can see it easily or because it is really a worthwhile place to visit? You'd better check it out.
18 Don't go to your hotels for meals. Walk around, even if in the streets closest to your hotel. Eat in local restaurants. Talk to the locals. Learn a few in the local language and use them. You will surely get a smile from the hotel staff and street sellers.
Help preserve the sites. Most of the sites you visit may be visited by millions of people a year, so care needs to be taken to allow others to enjoy them as well. Some of these monuments are so old and fragile that they are sensitive to the touch of hands or bags. 19 This way, you don't encourage the use of those plastic bags that fly all over many sites.
And here's the big one—good manners are nearly universal. 20 If that doesn't sound like you, then give the world a break and stay home.
A.Experience the place.
B.Always have a cloth bag with you.
C.Read up on the places you want to visit.
D.Try to buy something from the local stores.
E.A good tourist is polite, positive and eco-sensitive.
F.We've cleaned up after ourselves and taken only good memories.
G.If we are good tourists, wherever we go, we try to make it a little better because of our visit.

John was crazy about playing basketball. Every day after school, he would spend much time practicing basketball skills. Sometimes, he didn't go back home until sunset, which made his mother extremely angry. One day, as he was given a chance to watch a basketball game, he dreamed about being a member of the college basketball team the next year. On the way home, he was delighted secretly. He thought no one in the world was luckier than him. Suddenly, a car hit him. What a terrible experience! It seemed like a bad dream.
John woke up in a hospital room. He was frightened to death. He realized that he couldn't move both of his legs. At that time, the doctor came in. When the doctor told him that both his legs were broken and he had to sit in the wheelchair for the time being, he knew his college basketball dream was over. He was really depressed. John followed what the doctors had told him, but it did not work entirely. When he left the hospital, John was sent to a health recovery center. He had never heard of this center before, but it was not far away from his house. Although he felt unwilling to go there, he had no choice but to accept the fact.
A week later, he arrived there unhappily. The first person he met was Sunny Chen, who was so kind and friendly that he warmly welcomed John to go there. Sunny's legs were badly hurt in a skating accident. He told John that he would help him recover soon. Though Sunny couldn't move his legs, he became the coach of a basketball team called the Suns. After a period of recovery training, John felt his legs were all right. So Sunny invited him to join the game. Sunny guided the team on his wheelchair. John played badly, but for the first time since the accident, he stopped feeling sorry for himself.

Night opening until 9:45 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Louvre is open every day(except Tuesdays) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It is a museum about education whose main aim is to protect and pass on our heritage to future generations.
动词不定式短语to protect and pass on our heritage to future generations在定语从句中作表语。
Stephen...didn't say a word as a small child和最后一句中的but didn't learn to speak fully until the age of nine可知,Stephen小时候不会说话。
After that, Stephen's reputation grew worldwide.
根据第五段中的later completing a detailed drawing of London within three hours可知, Stephen在三个小时内就完成了伦敦画作。 His drawings—often drawn from memory and at great speed也说明了 Stephen绘画速度之快。
Stephen, who was born in London in 1974, didn't say a word as a small child, and found it hard to relate to other people.
and连接并列谓语didn't say和found,and后为“find+宾语+宾补”结构,其中it作形式宾语,动词不定式短语to relate to other people是真正的宾语。
Every year, thousands of teenagers participate in programs at their local art museums.
根据第二段中的to find out how effective their long-standing teen art programs really were. They involved over 300 former participants of four programs for teens that have been in existence since the 1990s.
故选A项。
Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact.
根据该段第一句后半部分giving them free access to a local museum可知选D项。
由第四段中的contribute to the patient's well-being and recovery可知,这种疗法可以帮助病人康复。 故选A项。
It may look a lot like a marketing effort for the museum可知,博物馆加入这个项目对博物馆来说看上去非常像一种营销活动,可帮助将博物馆推向市场。
It may look a lot like a marketing effort for the museum (and it's possible that there's an element of promotion in this), but there's also increasing evidence that the display of visual art, especially if it's depicting nature, can have positive effects on health outcomes.

Most of the sites you visit may be visited by millions of people a year, so care needs to be taken to allow others to enjoy them as well.
在后一分句中,动词不定式短语to allow others to enjoy them as well表示目的。
21.C 根据第五段中的to paint a beautiful portrait of the king with only one eye and one leg可知国王只有一只眼和一条腿,据此可以推知在那次战争中他失去(lost)了一只眼睛和一条腿。
24.D 根据下文中的asked all painters to come to the palace可知,此处指国王要大臣发布一则通告(announcement),召集所有画家来王宫。
25.B 根据上文中的asked all painters to come to the palace可知答案为B。
Other painters also came to see it可知,其他的画家也来观看,据此可以推断,此处指一个月后国王的肖像画向全国人民展出 (displayed)。
Other painters also came to see it可知,其他的画家也来观看,据此可以推断,此处指这些没有接受挑战的画家感到好奇(curious)。
33.D 根据下文中的the young painter had captured the beauty and 34 of the king even with only one eye and one leg可知,尽管国王有缺陷,但是年轻画家完美刻画出了国王的美和勇敢。
In the painting, the king was 35 for his prey(猎物) with an eye closed and a leg bent.
While everyone was discussing what to do, one young painter came forward and said he would love to accept the challenge.
While everyone was discussing what to do是While引导的时间状语从句,其中“疑问词+不定式”结构作宾语;主句中含有两个并列谓语,其中第二个谓语动词said后为省略了that的宾语从句。
36.who/that 考查定语从句。
decide to do sth.
be attached to...
即使,尽管 5.stick to 坚持 6.original adj.原来的

One possible version:
Dear Peter,
You asked me about the painting exhibition to be held in your last letter and the following is a brief introduction.
The exhibition, whose theme is “Amazing China”, will take place from next Monday to Friday in the exhibition hall located on the third floor of the City Museum. Some extraordinary Chinese paintings created by the middle school students will be displayed.
By the way, visitors are not permitted to take photos during the exhibition. It is also bad manners to talk loudly in the museum.
Looking forward to your reply.

John practiced hard to improve himself. He was always the first to come to the court, and the last to go back home. Although it was not easy for him to play and he did badly at first, he never thought about giving up hope. He was a boy with a strong mind.
Paragraph 2:
Sunny saw all John did, lost in thought. He could not help praising John for his courage and love for basketball. There were many ups and downs in life. No one knew what would happen. As a matter of fact, what we should do was hold fast to the dreams and fight to the end.
