A smiling young man I’d never seen before rolled down his window"可知,作者应该是看到了一辆皮卡车。
【练习3】 54.C 根据空前的"But"和空后的"given that it still needs trucks, an office and more assistance"可知,Sai Dham的工作虽然引起了越来越多的人的关注,但考虑到它仍需要卡车、一间办公室和更多的帮助,这项工作依旧很棘手。
With so many reasons why 16-year-olds shouldn’t drive"可知,出于多种原因,16岁(的青少年)不应该开车,由此可推知本句句意:根据一项调查,61%的美国人支持把驾驶年龄提高到18岁。
【练习5】 52.B 根据"soon he was hugging the animal"可知,作者的父亲拥抱这只狗,说明他的怒气平息了。increase增加,come up被提及,被讨论,come out(太阳、月亮)出现,均不符合语境。
sentence在此句中作名词,意为"宣判,判决",be under sentence of... sentence也可作动词,常用结构be sentenced to...
23.D 上文提到蜜蜂对人们吃的食物有重要作用,这与后文中的"bees have been disappearing at a(n) 24(alarming) rate"形成强烈的反差,因此unfortunately(不幸地)符合语境。
search for寻找;pick up拾起,捡起;empty out倒空。
An old art lover collected many famous paintings"可知, 一位老艺术爱好者收藏了许多名画。
42.C 根据空后的"rescue another soldier in a battle"可知,他的儿子因为救人而牺牲了(sacrificed)自己的生命。
At my glance he started to turn away"和"With a shy smile"可判断出,这是一个性格内敛的小男孩。
【练习16】 41.C 由"The COVID-19 pandemic(流行病) has left many worries about the future"可知,COVID-19流行病使人们对未来担忧。" 再根据"we’ve still got unbelievable power to choose"中的"power"可知,空处应选strength,属于同义词复现。
It’s more than a free haircut"可知,Steller是在免费给人理发,故选D。
26.C Steller的话"Do you want one right now?"
I couldn’t find 39(pleasure) in the things I loved"并结合选项可知,空处应填confident。
