Step 1: Lead in

【教学设计说明】This part is to let the students discuss the differences between the two people in the picture and summarize the differences in their appearance in order to lead into this lecture.
Step 2: work on 1a.
Language Goal: Describe people's looks
Match the words with the people in the picture. You can use some letters more than once.
—Is that your friend?
—No, it isn't.
—What does he look like? Is he short or tall?
—Well, he's really________.And he has________.
【教学设计说明】The main purpose of the state section is to learn the vocabulary and phrases that students will be able to use to describe their appearance, which will set the stage for the rest of the lesson
Step 3. work on 1b
Listen and fill in the blanks in the picture above.

Step 4. Language points
1.height 用作名词, 意为“身高;高度”, 其形容词形式是high。要询问某人的身高或某物的高度是多少, 常用what 来提问, 而不用how much 或how many。
eg: What’s the height of that wall? 那堵墙有多高?
2.height可与介词in连用,常用于描述某人或某物高度的句子中,其结构为 “sb./sth.+be+数字+meter(s)/ foot(feet) in height”,此时, in height相当于形容词tall。eg: He is two meters in height
=He is two meters tall.他身高两米。
3.修饰人,意为“胖的,重的”,用fat表达人胖时不礼貌,委婉的说法是用heavy,反义词thin(瘦的)
修饰物,意为“沉的;重的”,反义词 light(轻的)
heavy还有“大(量)的,猛烈的”之意,用来表示
雨或雪很大,其副词为heavily。
eg: It's raining heavily now. 现在雨下得很大。
There will be a heavy snow. 将有一场大雪。
4.“What+do/does+ 主语+look like ?” 这一句型用来询问人的外貌特征, 意为“某人长什么样?”
eg: What does Jim look like?吉姆长什么样?
辨析look like与be like

Team work
One of the people in 1a is your friend. Describe your friend. Your partner will find him/her.
Make conversations with your partner.
A: What does your friend look like?
B: She's of medium height, and she
has long straight hair.
T: Now, could you please present your conversations for the class? Let`s turn the turntable and choose one team?
(Have Ss form pairs and practice the conversations in the picture. Walk around the classroom to monitor their work. Have Ss introduce their family members using the conversations as a model. Have Ss mingle and practice the conversations. Choose some teams to role-play their conversations for the class.)
