China launched a spacecraft bound for its unfinished space station just past midnight Saturday local time. On board were three astronauts — including the first woman to visit the station.
The Shenzhou-13 spacecraft took off from the Gobi Desert in northern China. Zhai Zhigang, who was chosen as mission commander for the six-month trip, graduated from China's first group of astronaut trainees in the 1990s. Selected from more than 1,500 potential astronaut candidates in 1998, Zhai, once a fighter pilot in the Chinese People's Liberation Army, eventually conducted China's first spacewalk. “After 13 years, I am going to set out for outer space again,” Zhai said to reporters. “I feel excited. I feel inspired. I also feel some pressure.” Wang Yaping, 41, is the first female astronaut to visit the Chinese station and the second Chinese woman to enter space.
China has spent a decade working to develop technologies for a space station. Construction of the nation’s first permanent space station, Tiangong, started in April. It is planned to include three elements. One, called Tianhe or “Heavenly Harmony,” is just bigger than a city bus and serves as the main living district. Eleven missions will be needed to fully supply and complete the station.
The six-month trip marks another step in the nation's rapidly advancing space program.
Three Chinese astronauts returned in September from a successful 90-day visit to the station, spending their time checking Tianhe's life-support system and going on spacewalks.
“We will definitely encounter physical and psychological problems, as well as problems related to the equipment and facility,” Zhai told reporters Thursday. “Whether we can complete this flight mission well depends on our team, our firm will and the fighting spirit of our three crew members.” He added that the crew's two years of training together gives them the "]”power and wisdom” to resolve all difficulties.
Ahead of the launch, Beijing renewed a commitment to cooperate with the international peaceful use of spare Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian described sending people to space as a “common cause of mankind.” Zhao said China would “continue to extend the depth and breath of international cooperation and exchanges” in spaceflight and “make positive contributions to the exploration of the mysteries of the universe.”

A librarian in Indonesia's Java island is lending books to children in exchange for trash to clean up the environment and get the kids to read more.
Each weekday Raden Roro Hendarti rides her three wheeler with books stacked up at the back for children in Muntang village to exchange for plastic cups, bags and other waste that she carries back.
She told Reuters the is helping promote reading in the kids as well make them aware of the environment. As soon as she shows up, little children, many accompanied by their mothers, surround her “Trash Library” and shout for the books. They are all carrying trash bags and Raden's three-wheeler quickly fills up with them as the books fly out. She's happy the kids are going to spend less time on online games as a result.
“Let us build a culture of literacy from young age to lessen the harm of the online world,” Raden said. “We should also take care of our waste in order to fight climate change and to save the earth from trash,” Raden said. She collects about 100 kg of waste each week, which is then sorted out by her colleagues and sent for recycling or sold. She has a stock of 6,000 books to lend and wants to take the mobile service to neighboring areas as well.
Kevin Alamsyah, an 11-year-old book lover, search for waste lying in the village. “When there is too much trash, our environment will become dirty and it's not healthy. That's why I look for trash to borrow a book,” he says.
Jiah Palupi, the head of the main public library in the area, said Raden's work strengthened their efforts in a novel way to battle online gaming addiction among the youth and promote reading.
The literacy rate for above-15-year-olds in Indonesia is around 96 percent, but a September report by the World Bank warned that the pandemic will leave more than 80% of 15-year-olds below the minimum reading proficiency (阅读水平) level identified by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Many are familiar with the potentially deadly danger caused by lightning, which is blamed for an average of 43 deaths in the United States each year, based on data from 1989 to 2018. However, the researchers recently uncovered a surprising and beneficial impact of lighting.
Published at the end of April in Science, the new study found that lightning may play a bigger role in global climate change than what was previously known by the scientific community, “Lightning increases the atmosphere's ability to clean itself,” the researchers wrote in the study.
The study, which included efforts from nine atmospheric experts across a dozen universities and meteorological agencies, was based on an airborne research flight conducted by a NASADC-8 storm-chasing plane in 2012. The plane used to examine the top part of the top part of thunderstorm clouds, which are known as anvils (砧状云).
According to Dr.William Brune, a professor of meteorology and atmospheric sciences at Pennsylvania State University and co-author of the study, researchers initially thought there was a problem with the equipment on the plane, which was being used to measure the hydroxyl radicals(羟基自由基)in the atmosphere. But soon they realized the sharp increase they observed came along with lightning flashes.
Hydroxyl radicals, described as a “chemical cleaner” by Science Direct, are important chemical compounds (化合物) found in the atmosphere due to the reactive nature with other organic molecules (有机分子).
Researchers previously understood that lightning could help to clean the atmosphere, but there was no evidence that it could produce compounds like these radicals. As a result, the study estimates that somewhere between 2% and 16% of the cleaning that happens naturally in the Earth's atmosphere, is done by lightning.
Why is this significant? The existence of the hydroxyl radicals helps to reduce chemicals like carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere. These chemicals, known for greenhouse gases, have been proven to contribute to rising temperatures associated with climate change.
12.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Lightning can cause something surprising.
B.Many people feel scared when meeting lightening.
C.Lightning in the United States is more dangerous.
D.Few people know the positive influence of lightning.
13. Which of the statements is true about the study?
A.The research lasted about 30 years.
B.Several experts contributed to the study.
C.Equipment on storm-chasing plane once failed.
D.Its finding is the first to show lightning can clean atmosphere.
14.Why can lightning help clean atmosphere according to the study?
A.It can bring about hydroxyl radicals.
B.It can produce carbon dioxide and methane.
C.It happens on the top of thunderstorm clouds.
D.It can clean up more than half of pollution in the atmosphere.
15.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To explain the process of lightning.
B.To tell us a new study about lightning.
C.To tell us lightning is not as dangerous as we think.
D.To tell us researchers find a solution to greenhouse effect.

Visitors to my home are often curious about the fact that my kids share a room. “How do you make it?” they ask, as if seeing some children in the same sleeping space is impossible. 16 I will share my practical tips below.
Set the sleepy environment. This applies to any child’s bedroom, but it’s particularly important to set bedtime when you've got multiple little ones sharing a space. 17 Get a white noise machine.
18 Regularity is key when putting young kids to bed in the same space. If they are close in ago, do it at the same time. We put all our children to bed by 7 p.m.. And we also wake them up at 7 a.m..
Some noise is OK. 19 They will need reminders not to care about it, to stay in bed, to settle down, and go to sleep. This is normal. Kids do wake up sometimes when babies cry, although I'm always amazed at how much they can sleep through once they are used to it.
Buy the right furniture. Invest in good space-saving furniture, like beds with drawers. 20 Try to keep the room dedicatedforsleeping. Thiswillmaketheroomfeellesscramped, which — at least for me — makes having multiple kids in the same place feel more manageable.
A.Stick to the schedule.
B.How do l make it work?
C.Keep toys to a minimum.
D.Again, regularity is key to success.
E.Kids in a shared room will make noise.
F.Use darkening curtains on the window and a closed door.
G.If your baby has trouble settling at bedtime, you can start the night in another room.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was about 13. My father frequently took me on short outings on Saturdays. Sometimes we went to a park, or to a marina (码头) to look at boats. My favorites were trips to junk stores, where we could admire old electronic stuff. Once in a while we would buy something for 50 cents just to take it apart.
On the way home from these trips, Dad frequently stopped at the Dairy Queen for l0cent ice cream cones. Not every single time: just often enough. I couldn't expect it, but I could hope and pray from the time we started heading home to that critical corner where we would either go straight for the ice cream or turn and go home empty handed. That corner meant either mouthwatering excitement or disappointment.
A few times my father teased me by going home the long way. “I'm just going this wry for variety.” he would say, as we drove by the Dairy Queen without stopping. It was a game, and I was well fed, so we’re not talking torture (折磨) here.
On the best days he would ask, in a tone that made it sound novel and spontaneous, “Would you like an ice cream cone?” and I would say, “That sounds great, Dad!” I’d always have chocolate and he’d have vanilla. He would hand me 20 cents and I would run in to buy the usual. We'd eat them in the car. I loved my dad and I loved ice cream — so that was heaven.
On one fateful day, we were heading home, and I was hoping and praying for the beautiful sound of his offer. It came. “Would you like an ice cream cone today?” “That sounds great, Dad!”
注意:
1.续写调数应为150左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Dear Jim,
It’s really a pity that you will leave us and go back to your country. And here, I would like to express my most sincere gratitude to you for your help with my English study over these months. With your patient help, my English has improved a lot, especially my spoken English. What's more, you told me much about the culture and history of UK, which made me have a better understanding of your country.
To express my sincere thanks, I have bought some folding fans as farewell gifts. A foldingfan or “shanzi” in Chinese, is a typical craftsmanship of the traditional Chinese culture. Hopefully, you will like them. And you can send them as gifts to your family and relatives too.
Wish you a good journey back home!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
But then he said, “It sounds good to me too, Son. How would you like to treat today?” Twenty cents! I felt dizzy. I could afford it. But saving money was important. And when it was my money, ice cream just wasn't a good use of it. Why didn't it occur to me that this was a golden opportunity to give something back to my very generous father who had bought me 50 ice cream cones? But all I could think was “20 cents!” In a fit of selfish, miserly ingratitude, I said the awful words that have rung in my ears ever since. “Well, in that case, I guess I'll pass.”
My father just said, “Okay, Son.” But as we turned to head home, I realized how wrong I was and begged him to turn back. I felt awful for my selfishness and ungratefulness. He didn’t mention it, or even act disappointed. But I don't think he could have done anything to make a deeper impression on me. I learned that generosity goes two ways and gratefulness sometimes costs a little more than “thank you.” We went on another trip the next week, and as we approached the crucial corner, I said, “Dad, would you like an ice cream cone today? My treat.”
