3 | Step 1 Warm up
| 1.Teacher asks students to look at the pictures and answer the questions. (1) Where would you normally expect to find these animals? (2) Would you be surprised to see these animals in a city? Why or why not? (3) What problems could they encounter in cities? 2. Teacher invites some students to share the answers and add supplementary information if necessary. | ||||||
1 | Step 2 Prediction | 1.Teacher asks students to look at the title of the passage and the picture on page 63 and think about what the title means. 2.Teacher encourages students to predict what the passage is mainly about. | ||||||
8 | Step 3 Reading for main idea | 1. Teacher asks students to read the passage quickly, get the main idea of the passage and share their answers. 2. Teacher leads students to discuss in groups to summarize the main idea of each paragraph. 3. Teacher encourages students to read the various options in Exercise 3 independently , think and choose the topic sentences for paragraphs 2—5. 4. Teacher invites some students to share their answers in class and give reasons to support their answers. | ||||||

| 1. Teacher asks students to read the passage carefully, organize information from the passage and complete the diagram on page 64. 2. Teacher asks students to discuss and share their answers. 3. Teacher guides student to work out the structure of the passage. | ||||||
3 | Step 5 Application | 1.Teacher guides students to read the passage independently and get ready to introduce the passage in English. 2. Teacher invites some students to retell the passage according to the diagram. | ||||||
3 | Step 6 Thinking and sharing | Teacher encourages students to think and discuss in groups about the following questions and show their opinions: (1) How would you describe the relationship between people and urban animals in the passage? (2) What figure of speech is used in the first paragraph? Why does the author choose to start the passage this way? (3) Some environmentalists argue that we should restrict urban development to leave enough natural habitats for wild animals. Do you agree with this? Give your reasons. | ||||||
