In The Crssver,the father f the main characters,Jsh and Jrdan,gives them these rules fr life,called Basketball Rules.Well,I was having breakfast with a friend f mine in New Yrk City.He said,“Kwame,I lve thse Basketball Rules yu have in The Crssver.Yu shuld think abut writing a whle bk n thse.” That’s where it all began.

Alexander:
I lve sprts,and I’ve been writing petry since I was a kid.S thse tw things are as natural t me as breathing,laughing and walking.

Yu’ve said teachers need t make learning petry fun.Did yu have a teacher like this as a kid?
Alexander:
My mm.She read petry t my sisters and me when I was a kid,and she wuld make the wrds jump ff the page!

What shuld a brwn-belt karate (空手道) kid d ver the summer?Braden Lefevre chse t teach karate t peple wh might never have had a chance t learn it.He created a class fr adults with disabilities at a center that ffers jb training fr them.
Braden was the center’s first vlunteer t create and teach an nging prgram.The class was s ppular that the center had t limit it t 12 students.
“The students taught me mre than I taught them,” Braden said.One f his students was blind and in a wheelchair.Braden asked his instructr,Guyle Crley,fr advice.“He tld me t get him t feel the mtin (动作) and he wuld prbably be able t d it.I tried that and it wrked,” Braden said.“I learned that everyne can d smething.”

It can be a real struggle trying t learn a new language.I had always enjyed learning languages in schl,but nly recently did I start learning German.I fund that I culd understand and learn individual wrds easily,but when it came t literature,I really struggled.That was when my tutr at university suggested reading sme children’s bks printed in the target language.
At first,I felt a bit silly ging n a hunt fr a bk designed fr smene half my age,but then I realised that everyne had t start smewhere.As children,we are given these basic texts t familiarise ur brains with certain vcabulary and writing structures,and frm there,we can learn and develp.I started with bks which are taught t us as children in the UK.I managed t find Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and James and the Giant Peach by Rald Dahl.
The beauty f reading bks that were intrduced t yu as a child is that yu are already familiar with the plt.As a result,yu can wrk ut sme f the definitins f wrds with yur prir knwledge f the stry.At first,I used t read with the bk in ne hand and a dictinary in the ther,but this methd did nt wrk well fr me.The methd I wuld recmmend is t read a chapter f yur chsen children’s bk and at the end f that chapter,highlight the wrds yu d nt knw and then lk up the definitins.If yu can wait a bit befre yu use a dictinary,yu may be surprised what yu can get merely frm the cntext f the sentence in the stry.Additinally,a lt f children’s bks have pictures which may give yu a clue as t what r t whm the passage is referring.

One day while walking thrugh the wds,the ld man fund a ccn(茧). He decided t take the ccn hme t watch its beautiful transfrmatin frm a little ccn t a beautiful butterfly.
A few days later,the ccn started t mve. It mved frantically! He sat and watched it struggle and struggle fr several hurs. But it seemed nt t make any prgress. Then the ld man felt srry fr the little butterfly inside,and rushed t its aid. With a pair f scissrs and gently, he cut a little pening in the ccn s the butterfly culd cme ut. And then the butterfly came ut f its ccn. It had a swllen bdy and small,fragile wings,but it never was able t fly.
He was quite puzzled. Had he accidentally killed the little butterfly? N, it was still mving a little bit. Maybe it was sick. Then he decided that the best thing he culd d fr the butterfly was t place it gently back int its ccn. He did s,and placed a drp f hney n it t seal the ccn,leaving the butterfly t nestle(处在) in its natural state.
The next day he nticed that the ccn was mving again. It struggled and struggled. Finally the butterfly brke free frm its ccn and stretched its wings ut. Its beautiful wings were filed with wnderful clrs! It tk ff! It was flying!
