They tend t be peple like Michael Rsen. Rsen has mre practical bjectins t children having t learn petry by the gvernment’s rder. Actually, Rsen is all fr learning petry, “when it feels right”, which is, he says, “ne f thse vague phrases much hated by peple in authrity and yet it is at the heart f gd teaching”.
He’s nt smething abut the timing, but that desn’t mean plicymakers are wrng t insist n pupils learning petry. The prblem is that sme influential educatinists have cme t see learning by heart as a waste f time when tmrrw’s adults will want skills mre than infrmatin.
