Last week, 169 Junir 1 students at N. 35 Middle Schl f Shenyang tk their first n-teacher exam. After the teacher handed ut the exam paper, he left the rm and never came back. A student cllected in the papers when the exam ended.
"That test was nt nly a test f knwledge, but als a test f mral (道德). We wanted t shw students hw imprtant hnesty (诚实) is," said the schl's headmaster. The schl says n cheating (作弊)happened in the test. Next year, it wants 80% f its exams t be withut teachers. But students have different ideas.
"I was happy and excited during the exam because my teachers trusted (信任) me," said Lang Yudan, a 13-year-ld girl in Class 11.
"Schls must trust students a lt nt t use invigilatrs (监考人). But I think it is t early. Sme students will cheat if there are n invigilatrs. And the students will nt be able t ask fr help when needed,” said Hua Sha.
"I dn' t like having invigilatrs in exams. When they walk arund the classrm, they make me nervus. I wuld get higher marks withut them in the rm because I wuld feel mre relaxed," Liu Qingxi said.
"I think it's very imprtant t have invigilatrs in exams. Many students want t check their answers with each ther after they have finished papers. And they can als keep the classrm in rder when smething unusual happens. They may make me nervus, but I still think we need them," Shangguan Yuan said.
Nt using invigilatrs may be a gd idea. But befre using it, schls must tell students the imprtance f hnesty and try t find ways t slve smething unusual in exams.
