On the outside, 12-year-old Luna seems like an average kid. It’s not until you get to know her that you learn that Luna is anything but average.
Born with a heart defect (缺陷) called dextrocardia, Luna has had three open-heart operations and continues to pursue her interest in art and fashion. But when Luna was approached by athletic shoe company Saucony to design a shoe for sale across the country, it came as quite a surprise.
“This is so incredible. I got to use my art and creativity for something new that I’d never thought I’d be able to design,” Luna said. She is one of six patients from Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) who have partnered with Saucony to design their own shoes to launch the Shoes with Soul campaign.
“Rather than just a donation, we wanted to create an experience and a moment that would raise not only money, but also awareness to highlight all the amazing work that’s being done at BCH,” says Chris, Saucony’s vice president.“Specifically, we wanted to give some of the BCH kids an opportunity to share their stories and their talents with the world.”
Luna’s design is fashion.“On the tongue, they digitalized (使数字化) one of my drawings, and then on the bottom it’s a really bright pink colour, and on the inside, the sole of the shoe is actually another drawing I did of a sunset,” she said.“Thinking about kids everywhere around the world wearing my shoes is amazing. It blows my mind.”
The income from the shoe sales will benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital Cardiac Fitness Programme, which encourages kids to “find your possible” through personalized exercise programmes tailored for each individual patient’s heart condition.
“It feels really good to help people and it’s really something I can relate to,” says Luna.“The advice I would give a kid or someone like me is never giving up. There are a lot of kids out there with your condition and you’re not alone.”

Most people are aware that practicing healthy habits, eating well and exercising are important to our well-being. However, few people recognize why it is so important to implement these healthy habits into your day-to-day lifestyle.
One of the most important benefits of healthy eating is that it can help to prevent chronic (慢性的) diseases, such as heart disease, depression, cancer, arthritis, diabetes and stroke whilst also keeping your cholesterol (胆固醇) and blood pressure within a safe range. Also, healthy eating and regular exercising can significantly assist you in avoiding excessive weight gain and improve your overall well-being.
Bad habits can be hard to break, but once you begin the process of adopting a healthier lifestyle, you will feel energized and you won’t want to eat unhealthy food. Food is meant to be enjoyed, so enjoy eating healthy food. Adopt the 80/20 rule (you are encouraged to eat healthily 80% of the time and then have some occasional treats)-you must feel free to reward yourself every now and again, but just be careful to not go overboard, and please don’t feel guilty about it. Many people do this by allowing themselves a treat at the weekend, and keep the week really focused on healthy eating and so this helps keep it manageable. If you do experience a slip-up just get right back to your healthy eating habits. The more positive you stay, the easier and more enjoyable healthy eating will become.
As Hippocrates once said, “let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” (Hippocrates, 400 B.C.). Taking the measures to truly begin caring about your body is the first important step to living a healthy lifestyle. Balance is key, so always aim to eat whole, natural foods and avoid prepackaged, processed food.

C. It improves your overall well-being.
D. It helps you to lose weight.
29. Which of the following might the author agree with?
A. Eating fat is important to your brain functions.
B. It’s OK to eat prepackaged or processed food a lot.
C. Always stick to eating healthily without exception.
D. With self-control, you can sometimes allow yourself a treat.
30. What does Hippocrates’ words suggest?
A. If you are ill, food can be the medicine.
B. You shouldn’t eat medicine as your food.
C. Food has nothing to do with medicine.
D. Your food may cause you to get ill.
31. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Eat the Most You Can.
B. You Are What You Eat.
C. Eat Well to Protect Yourself.
D. Pay Attention to Bad Eating Habits.

Depression and suicidal thoughts have doubled in young Americans, according to a new study from the American Psychological Association.
Likely triggers? Cell phones and social media.
“More US adolescents and young adults in the late 2010s, versus the mid-2000s, experienced serious psychological distress, major depression and more attempted suicide (自杀),”says lead researcher Jean Twenge, professor of psychology at San Diego State University. “These trends are weak or non existent among adults 26 years and over, suggesting a generational shift in mood disorders instead of an overall increase across all ages.”
Twenge believes this trend is partially due to the explosion of digital culture over the past decade, which may have twisted modes of social interaction enough to affect mood disorders.
The study analyzed data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, which tracked drug and alcohol use and mental health issues in more than 200,000 youths aged 12 to 17 from 2005 to 2017 and almost 400,000 adults from 2008 to 2017.
Major depression in the last 12 months increased by 52 percent in kids from 2005 to 2017 and 63 percent in young adults aged 18 to 25 from 2009 to 2017. There was also a 71 percent jump inyoung adults experiencing serious psychological distress in the previous 30 days from 2008 to 2017.
So what’s so different now? Twenge says research shows young people just aren’t getting as much sleep as they did in previous generations.
Whereas older Americans might have established more stability in their lives,sleep-disrupting social stressors are likely at their peak for teens and young adults in this digital era, she says. Older adults are also less likely to let devices interfere (干预)with sleep.
These results suggest a need for more research to understand how digital communication versus face-to face social interaction influences mood disorders and to develop specialized interventions for younger age groups.
Her suggestion? Put your phone down at least an hour before bedtime.
32. How is Paragraph 6 developed?
A.By stating facts. B.By giving examples.
C.By providing statistics. D.By presenting theories.
33. What might Professor Twenge agree with?
A. Mood disorders show no differences across all ages.
B. Teens are less likely to let devices interfere with sleep.
C. Digital culture explosion might cause depression in teens.
D. The past decade has seen a sharp decrease in teens’ mental disorders.
34. What do the underlined words “social stressors” in Para.8 mean?
A. Interaction modes. B. Mental health issues.
C. Drug and alcohol use. D. Cell phones and social media.
35. From which is the text probably taken?
A. A biology textbook. B. A science magazine.
C. A travel guidebook. D. A medical case.

W: Here is a gift for you.
M: Oh, what a nice toy car! I am very fond of it.

W: Do you go to work on foot every day?
M: Well, I'm too fat to walk a lot. I usually take a bus. But sometimes when the bus is crowded, I wishsomeone would give me a ride.
Text 3
M: This is so boring. What about playing basketball or doing a crossword puzzle?
W: I'm not interested. Let's play cards.
Text 4
W: Hello, Tony. Where were you last night?
M: I had to stay at home.
W: But you missed a really wonderful concert!
Text 5
M: You should have prepared your speech for the meeting, Susan.
W: Yes, I know. But how could I prepare with the meeting date fixed so soon?
Text 6
M: Excuse me. Would you mind answering a few questions for London South FM?
W: Yeah, of course.
M: How long have you been waiting here?
W: I have been waiting here since 7:00 this morning. I didn't know there was a long queue.
M: You must be a real tennis fan!
W: Ah, so-so. I am a student of English. I've been in London for four weeks, and I thought it was a good idea to come to Wimbledon before I go back to Berlin.
M: Do you think you'll get in?
W: I hope so.
Text 7
M: Look at this place! If I didn't know it was the city I grew up in, I would think I was in somewhere else!
W: Yeah, so many houses are empty or broken down. It wasn't like this when we were kids.
M: We used to play balls in the streets all the time, but it looks so dangerous now.
W: And ugly. Look at all that rubbish in the streets. The wind just pushes it along. What a lonely place!
M: This used to be a great city. People came from miles around to work in the shops and eat in therestaurants. What a sad sight!
W: Yeah, let's pick up the rubbish. I'm getting sad.
Text 8
W: We have got our own home. It must be wonderful to live by ourselves.
M: I have been looking forward to it since we got married.
W: Here I have a dressing table of my own.
M: Oh, the room is so small. I thought it would be a lot bigger.
W: So did I. After all, it's a new one. It's our own house. That's what really matters. Is that right? Let's put the chairs in front of the fireplace.
M: Um, but we should first consider where to put the bed. It is the biggest piece of furniture.
W: Well, let's put it over there. And the chairs near the window.
M: All right. Then you can draw and I can read by the window.
Text 9
W: Hi, I've only just arrived.
M: Oh, good. Now here are the keys. Let's go in. There are two apartments. The one for rent is on the right. Do come in.
W: Thank you. I like the carpet. The colour is nice, isn't it?
M: Yes, and this apartment is in good condition. Here is your lounge.
W: Where would I eat?
M: There is this corner here, or you can use your kitchen. Come and see.
W: The kitchen is quite small.
M: Yes, but it has everything, cooker, fridge, even a dishwasher.
W: And there are lots of cupboards.
M: Let me show you the bedrooms. This is the smaller one.
W: It's a good size, though.
M: Now come into the other bedroom. You can see the bathroom, too.
W: Yes, it is very nice. But I will have to ask my friend first, and we will come together. I understand it is $800 a month.
M: Yes, but a few blocks downtown would be much more expensive.
W: Well, thank you. I will be in touch.
