How is everything going? I’m more than happy to share with you my experience in our school photography competition.

The competition started on March 18th and lasted for one week. As a photography enthusiast, I also submitted my works Lovely Pandas, in which a panda family are playing happily on the grass. I want to show that animals can live in harmony with humans. The result came out last Friday. To my great excitement, I won the first prize! Through the competition, I have become more and more confident in my photography technique.

W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.

M: Yes, certainly. Well, we’re a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club—we have about 50 members at the moment, but we’re growing all the time.

W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Err, what kinds of events do you organize?

M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.

W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?

M: Yes. Every day, except Thursday, we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday, we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.

W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.

Good morning. I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to say about an excitement in the city: the Megan Open-Air Swimming Pool. The pool used to be an open-air pool on the sea 30 years ago, but it had to close because it was unsafe. Now it is rebuilt and is to be open again. The idea of reopening it came from you, the public, in the survey conducted by the City Council last year. And the fund for rebuilding the pool came from the SWDC — the South West Development Commission.

This new heated pool was designed by a famous architect, Ellen Wendon. He used a charming design, with the latest features such as a recycling system which enables seawater to be used in the pool. All the cost of the rebuilding project was within the budget. Now there has been quite a bit of discussion in the local press about whether there would be enough room for the number of visitors. Don’t worry. There have been careful checks about its capacity.

The opening date of the new pool is set on July 15th. We have invited an actor to declare it open. We plan to have a sculpture at the entrance. There will also be a competition for you to decide which famous historical figure from the city we should have. And again we’d love to see you there.
