Step II Lead-in 1.Show some pictures of other people who need our help which aren’t mentioned in this unit. (1) survivors of disasters (2) children without families (3) people with a serious disasters 2.Discuss people who need help: (1)School for the blind (2)Schools for children of migrant workers (3)Homes for the elderly (4)Homes for children without families (5)Homes for earthquake surviviors Step III Presentation 1.Introduce a student named Xiao Wei ,Peter wrote a letter asking people to help him . 2 .Play the tape and ask the students to answer the following questions. (1) What is wrong with Xiao Wei ? (2) What kind of help do his family need ? (3) How can we help Xiao Wei? Answer the questions individually and check them orally. Step IV Learning 1. Learn about Peter’s plan T: Peter wants to write a letter to ask others to help a middle school student. First he organizes his ideas from general to specific. 2. Read and learn the structure T: Peter writes down his letter. Now read his letter and find the structure: Greeting, Main body and Signature. T: Take a close look at the main body. It has five paragraphs. Please underline the topic sentence and think about the main idea to each paragraph. 3. Read and underline the useful expressions T: When writing our own letters, we can use some of the expressions from Peter’s letter. Ending: In this part we should express thanks sincerely. Practice: Express your thanks in different ways. 1. Watch and discuss T: Watch a video about some students and the homeless. T: Work in groups of three and discuss your letter from three parts. These five questions can help you. 3. Write the first draft T: Write your first draft now. Be sure to have a clear organization, practical ideas, specific words and rich expressions. 1.
