Step I:

Pre-reading

Warming-up (5’)

1. At the beginning of the class, say “hello” to students.

2. Play a “guessing game” .Let the students watch the pictures and the poems in English about spring on the screen carefully, then say the Chinese poems.

2. Guess the poem in Chinese according to the pictures and the key points on the screen.

Purpose

1. Students have guessed a poem in Lesson 3.Let them guess more Chinese poems about spring to attract students’ attention.

2. Get ready for the next step.

Step II:

 Lead-in (8’)

1. Let the students talk about the two questions in “Think about it”
2. Use brainstorming to help students focus on the “topic spring”.
3. Instruct students to master the new words.

1. Express their own ideas about spring like weather, temperature, colours, activities, etc.
2. Learn the new words and some phrases.

1. Help students remember what they’ve known about sping actively by using brainstorm.
2. Lead into the new lesson and get the class to know about the new words in a natural way.

Step Ⅲ:

While reading

Task Reading(5’)

1. Ask students to read the e-mail from my friend Li Hong, and put the three paragraphs into the right order.

2. Check the answers.

3. Ask students to read the passage again and finish the chart.

Listen carefully and finish the task.

1. Train the ability of reading.
2. Let the students learn about the spring city by themselves.

Step IV:

Read for knowledge  (6’)

1. Ask students to read the text aloud in groups.

2. Ask students to work out their own problems about the text with the help of other group members and the teacher.

3. Ask the students to learn the important phrases by heart.

4. Explain the problems they can’t understand.

5. Let the students finish the exercises.

3. Talk about What they can do to make their hometown a beautiful place

1. Ask students to summary what they’ve learned in class.
2. Make a short speech about the meaning of spring.
