阅读下列短文, 从每小题所给的(A, B,C,D)四个选项中选出最佳选项.
A
Four activities to take you out of your comfort zone, and increase your confidence.
Camping
Whether it's at a professional campsite, or just in your back garden, taking a weekend away from technology and spending time with loved ones - or just
you - can bring you a real sense of freedom. You'll realize how little you really need.
Cooking Class
You could go with a friend to ease you in, or make new 'foodie' friends there - search for classes in your local area online. Or, if attending a class might be a few steps too far for you, you can still breathe some life into your tried and tested kitchen favorites by exploring new recipes.
Clubbercise
Group exercise classes can have many benefits, but personally I've always found the concept terrifying. But the great thing about Clubbercise classes is that you can enjoy them in the dark! There are no eyes on you if you miss a step, so you can completely let loose and have fun - who doesn't feel better after dancing?
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing helps to develop your problem-solving skills as you navigate your way up the wall. Plus, rock climbing is quite an accessible activity. As "seeing the route" is less important than "feeling" your way up or keeping balance, it can be great for those with visual problems.
51. What are you advised to do if you want to go camping?
A. Bring some friends with you. B. Take some classes in advance.
C. Leave your cellphone at home. D. Explore new ways of cooking.
52. Where are you supposed to learn about cooking classes?
A. From friends. B. On the Internet.
C. In the neighborhood. D. Through organizations.
53.What kind of activity does Clubbercise include?

B. Taking one-on-one training.
C. Observing others’ performance.
D. Dancing with people in darkness.
54. Which activity would you suggest to a short-sighted friend?

My first newsroom was in a grand building with tall arched windows that dominated a street corner in the small Midwestern city where I worked. Inside, there was a high ceiling."Did this use to be a bank?" many visitors would ask.But it had, in fact, always been a newsroom.
I was young and shy when I first went to work there, and it probably took me a month before I talked to any of the other reporters. But eventually, they became my best friends, the core of my social life.
My second newsroom was the airy top floor of a historic building in the state capital of Maryland. It was smaller and less grand but far more energizing. My colleagues were older. I learned so much about how to be a reporter from overhearing their phone interviews.
This past summer, several American newspapers announced they would be closing their newsrooms. Many local newspapers have gone out of business in recent years, victims of declining circulation and shrinking advertising dollars. Then along came the coronavirus pandemic ,and so many of us were sent home to work from there. The pleasant surprise is that we have all succeeded brilliantly in working remotely. But some managers have looked at this success and thought:"Why would we need to return to the newsroom?”
I worry that they are making a big mistake. A physical newsroom sends a powerful message to a community: "We are here for you." At my first job, strangers could walk right through the door and straight up to my desk. We treasured that visibility.
But I also think about the collaboration - of the times I would overhear colleagues talking about a story and realize that I had some useful information for them. Sometimes, a colleague would see me in the hall and give me a story idea. I can't wait to get back to my newsroom.
56.How was the author's first newsroom different from the second one?
A. It used to be a bank. B. It was in a grand building.
C. It sat in a big city. D. It was visitor-friendly.
57.How did the author benefit from her second newsroom?
A. She made her best friends there.
B. She could overhear others' argument.
C. She overcame her shyness.
D. She gained experience from her colleagues.
58. What does the underlined part “this success” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Newspaper circulation was increasing.
B. Newspaper advertising was profitable.
C. Journalists worked effectively at home.
D. Journalism survived the pandemic.
59.Why is the author against closing newsrooms?
A. Newsrooms serve as a close tie.
B. It is against the will of communities.
C. Newspapers will disappear due to it.
D. She will be out of work as a result.
60.What's the purpose of the text?
A. To call for reporting heated news online.
B. To encourage people to work from home.
C. To point out the importance of newsrooms.
D. To introduce the success of remote working.

Just how many truly intelligent species are there living on Earth? While they may not be living "in a pineapple under the sea", a new study finds there's at least one species in the ocean that shows the intelligence of human children. Researchers at the Marine Biological Laboratory say cuttlefish(墨 鱼)have passed a test designed to measure the advanced skill of delayed gratification(延迟满足)in primates(灵长目动物).
Researchers used an adapted version of the Stanford marshmallow test(棉花糖测试),where children were given a choice of taking an immediate reward (1 marshmallow) or waiting to earn a delayed but better reward(2 marshmallows)."Cuttlefish in the present study were all able to wait for the better reward and tolerated delays for up to 50–130 seconds," says lead author Alexandra Schnell. This is the first time the link between self-control and intelligence has appeared in a species other than primates.
Why the species is able to delay gratification is a bit of a mystery. For humans, scientists believe the quality strengthens social bonds. An example would be when you see someone wait for a partner to eat. Delayed gratification can also be a function of tool-building animals, who need to make hunting tools before they can eat.
For cuttlefish, however, researchers say they don't build tools and are not social creatures. For them, Schnell believes delayed gratification is likely the result of having to hide themselves to stay alive. "Cuttlefish spend most of their time hiding," she explains. "They desist from hiding when they search for food, so they are exposed to every hunter in the ocean that wants to eat them. We assume that delayed gratification may be a byproduct of this, so the cuttlefish can wait to choose better quality food."
Researchers add that finding a link between self-control and intelligence in an animal other than primates is a good example of convergent evolution (趋同进化).This is the event in which completely separate evolutionary histories still lead to the same signs of intelligence.
61. What can we conclude from the adapted marshmallow test about cuttlefish?
A. They were smarter than children.
B. They had little interest in marshmallows.
C. They showed a certain amount of self-control.
D. They were more likely to take immediate rewards.
62. Why are humans able to delay gratification according to the scientists?
A. To avoid dangers.
B. To maintain relationships.
C. Due to their inborn ability.
D. Due to the demand from others.
63. What does the underlined part “desist from" in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Enjoy. B. Consider. C. Risk. D. Stop.
64. What's the possible reason for cuttlefish's skill of delayed gratification?
A. Cuttlefish is a tool-building animal.
B. Cuttlefish is a social creature.
C. Cuttlefish has its special living habit.
D. Cuttlefish has high intelligence.
65. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. A possible reason for the study findings.
B. A suggestion for future studies.
C. The significance of the study.
D. The major limitation of the study.
D
There has been a substantial decline in the number of children who read for pleasure in the last few years. According to the annual Kids and Family Report, in just the last four years, the number of kids that read for fun has dropped by nearly 10%. Today, barely half of the children in the United States report liking to read for enjoyment.
When it comes to reading, kids can come up with a million excuses as to why they don't like it. It can be frustrating trying to get your child to read, and it's easy to rely on unsuccessful methods for encouraging reading. Sometimes you tend to nag (唠叨) your child to read, or perhaps bribe(贿赂) him to read by offering him a reward. Unfortunately, these methods often do more harm than good. Nagging can lead your child to feel that he is being forced to read. And while rewarding your child for reading isn't bad in itself, it shouldn't be relied upon to get him to read.
It's similarly important to reserve judgment regarding what your child chooses to read. While it might be your goal for your child to read To Kill a Mockingbird, reading about his favorite band in a teen magazine will also do. Reading is reading, and the more your child does it, the more he will enjoy it. And with increased enjoyment comes more frequent reading.
The first step in getting your child to read more is to help him enjoy doing it. The best way to accomplish this is by providing him with something that he wants to read. Besides, what you do will highly influence what your child does. If you read for pleasure, it establishes the notion (观念) that reading is fun. Research shows that children who are surrounded by readers – their parents, siblings, friends, or teachers - are more likely to become readers themselves.
66.How does the author put forward his argument?
A. By giving statistics. B. By listing reasons.
C. By following directions D. By offering suggestions.
67. What has the annual Kids and Family Report found?
A. Fewer kids enjoy family time. B. Fewer kids read for enjoyment.
C. Kids benefit less from reading. D. Kids care less about their grades.
68. Why does the author disapprove of nagging or bribing kids to read?
A. It results in bad home education.
B. It fails to motivate kids' desire to read.
C. It does harm to parent-child relationships.
D. It prevents kids from reading effectively.
69. How will parents’ reserving judgment benefit their kids?
A. It saves kids' precious time.
B. It avoids unwanted distractions.
C. It promotes improved reading skills.
D. It leads kids to love reading gradually.
70. How should parents encourage their kids to read more?
A. Invite their teachers to read together. B. Provide them with the latest books.
C. Engage them in book clubs. D. Serve as examples for them.

第二节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
Over the past three years, I've had one major goal in my personal life: To stop being so angry. I grew up in an angry home. Yelling and phone throwing were my parents’ basic means of communication. I brought these to my marriage."Why are you always yelling?" my husband would say. Then three years ago, an earthquake hit our home: We had a baby girl. I wanted her to grow up in a peaceful environment.
Then, six months ago, I was talking with Lisa Feldman Barrett, a psychologist at Northeastern University. She gave me this suggestion: "You could increase your emotional granularity(情绪粒度).”Over the past 30 years, she has found evidence that anger isn't one emotion but rather a whole family of emotions. And learning to identify different members of the family is a powerful tool for regulating your anger. So in many ways, anger is like wine. There are these major varieties but each drink has its own unique combination of aromas(香气)and flavors.
"If you learn to detect all the various flavors of anger and label(给……加标签) them, you can start to handle your anger better," says psychologist Maria Gendron at Yale University. "Analyze what's causing your different types of anger, give them specific names and start using the terms with family and coworkers."
I started paying attention to what typically triggers my anger. And I found three major types, which I named. Illogical(不合逻辑的)anger: This emotion happens when somebody at work makes a decision that seems completely illogical. Once I labeled this anger, I quickly realized that trying to convince an illogical person of logic is a waste of time. Hurry-up anger: This is the anger I feel when someone else is not doing something fast enough. Yes, I'm talking about the driver of the gray Prius at the stoplight this morning. Once I labeled it, I realized my anger doesn't help things become any better. Disonophous anger: The dog was barking and the child was screaming. I made up disonophous anger from the Latin for "two sounds."
Now when my husband says "I have disonophous anger, Emma ...", we know exactly what to do: Feed the dog and pick up the baby. And I know he's not angry at me. He just wants some peace and quiet.

Dear Peter,
Glad to hear from you. I'd like to write about how to live with pressure.
Firstly, I'd take my problem as an example. I used to feel pressured to do well in exams, which made me out of breath. To my disappointment, the more worried I was
about my studies, the worse I performed in the exam. So I realized I just took pressure too seriously. Secondly, let me tell you how to deal with it, I tried taking things easy by participating in various activities out of class, enjoying music
and chatting with my friends about fun things. To my delight, this works.
Pressure cannot be avoided, What counts is how to deal with it properly. So I do hope you can face problems and pressure bravely and your life will be full of sunshine.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Jin
