BAn Olympic Village is a place that houses Olympic competitors. It is a place where they prepare for whatmight be the most important moment in their life. But we want to know more about this mysterious (神秘的) place: What really happens in the village? We asked swimmer Natalie Coughlin, a three-time Olympian and 12-time medalist. She says, “People thinkit’s a lot more attractive and interesting than it is. It isn’t. It’s like a huge college campus, including a bank, a salon, a post office, and a huge cafeteria— except that everyone is anxious, getting ready for their biggest event under unbelievably high pressure.”But some other Olympians look differently at their campus. “It’s like the first day of college,” water poloplayer Tony Azevedo says. “You’re super excited. Everyone’s meeting people and trying to socialize with others.”Coughlin says the best spot to be in the village is the cafeteria. Not only does it provide a place to talk with therest of the athletes from your country, but it’s a great chance for people-watching. One of her favorite games was to tell what sport someone in front of her took based on their body type.Living in the same village means athletes run into one another all the time. Coughlin shares this story: Whilein London in 2012, at one point applause (欢呼) broke out at the arrival of someone. Coughlin thought it was oneof the British royals, but it was Jamaica’s Usain Bolt (the world’s greatest runner alive). Runner Allyson Felix— a winner of six gold Olympic medals— has also had her run-ins. In 2008, she came across the world-famous U.S. men’s basketball team, including Anthony, Bryant, Wade and other top players. It’s “a pretty wild scene, the biggest melting pot— a place where large numbers of people, ideas, and culturesare mixed together— you’ve been in,” said swimmer Eric Shanteau. Felix agrees, saying, “You get to meet people from other countries that you wouldn’t even come into contact with. To me that’s the coolest thing.”46. The purpose of the first paragraph is to ______.A. provide examples B. give suggestionsC. introduce the topic D. present research findings47. What does Coughlin say about the Olympic villagers?A. They are very nervous. B. They like to make friends.C. They enjoy the village very much. D. They spend most of their time relaxing.48. What did Coughlin often do at the cafeteria in the Olympic Village? She often watched other people play games there. She often spent time with athletes from other countries. She often gave fitness advice to others according to their body features. She often tried guessing a person’s sport.49. CMany of us like to eat out and treat ourselves to delicious food. We are used to choosing hearty (丰盛的),fat-filled dishes and sugary desserts, which are not easily cooked at home. The recent rise of light meals, however, gives us a smarter choice. According to Economic Daily, low-calorie, low-fat and high-fibre meals have become popular in China’s restaurants and online delivery platforms. The country saw a rapid increase of restaurants concentrating on light meals, from just 600 in 2017 to morethan 3,500 in 2018. According to a report published by Meituan, a major online food delivery platform, the number of light meals ordered online also rose 75 percent from the previous year.Having a light meal, however, doesn’t mean eating only vegetables. Different from the meat-free lifestyle, atypical light dish avoids oily, salty and spicy food. Instead, it contains things like boiled meat, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Healthy nutrients(营养物)are the theme of the light meal. These dishes are useful for keeping healthy and controlling your weight. That’s probably why so many people, especially the youths are into them. She shared a picture of her lunch: a mixture of beef, eggs, corn, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. These changes in eating behaviour are connected to deeper changes in how people think about food, saysWalter Willett, chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard T.Chan School of Public Health, US. “Diet quality, not quantity, is important for both weight control and long-term well-being,” Willett told The New York Times. So the next time you have a party with friends, try a light meal. It will satisfy not only your stomachs butmaybe also your hearts.51. What are light meals?A. Fat-filled dishes. B. Low-calorie and high-fibre meals.C. Sugary desserts. D. Meat free dishes.52.
