    本单元的主题语境是人与自然——人与环境的和谐相处

    本课为Developing ideas板块,是一篇阅读语篇。探讨了日常生活中的四个环保真理的真伪。作为说明文,文章结构清晰,采取总分总的结构。第一部分引入话题,引导人们思考我们所谓的环保常识/真理是否正确。第二部分四个副标题介绍了四条环保真理,并对其真伪进行辨析。最后一部分,作者提醒人们应该学会验证生活中的环保常识的真伪。通过对四个环保真理真伪的辨析,作者在澄清了环保常识的同时,也引发人们对于更多环保真理的批判性思考;读写部分的范文呈现了一封倡议 光盘行动的信件。通过这一板块的学习,学生能够提升思维品质,并初步掌握倡议信的文体特点和写法。

    1. Guide the students to sort out the structure of the article with the subtitle, understand the discourse content, and summarize the reasons for the truth and falseness of environmental protection in the article;

    2. Guide students to analyze the characteristics of discourse types and the logical relationships of paragraphs with the help of discourse knowledge, so that students can use logical thinking and critical thinking to sort out and judge common viewpoints in life;

    3. Guide students to study independently and in group cooperation, further analyze the causes and countermeasures of environmental truth errors in the text, and make a brief report;

    4. Help students further deepen their understanding of the unit topic, understand the writing characteristics of the letter of advocacy, so that students can write a letter of advocacy related to environmental protection with what they have learned.

    Key points:

    1. Guide students to think about the reasons why people misunderstand the four "environmental truth" and the reasons why these "truth" are incorrect, and cultivate their critical thinking ability;

    2. Guide the students to make their own comments on the article.

    Difficult points:

    1. Guide students to think about how to become more environmentally friendly;

    2.Write a proposal on environmental problems.

    1. Read the text on pages 68 to 69 in advance and sort out the structure of the text with the subtitle;

    2. Understand the discourse content by combining the context or consulting a dictionary;

    3. Understand the unit topic and the writing characteristics of the letter.

    Step 1 Warming up

    Activity 1

    1.The teacher showed a video of environment protection to get students thinking about how to protect the environment.

    2.Teacher asks students to do the questionnaire in Activity 1.

    3.Share their answers and see if they they are environmentally conscious.

    Step 2 Reading

    Activity 2 (Scanning)

    1. Teacher asks students to read the subheadings in the passage and decide if they are true or false.

    2. Teacher asks students to summarise the main idea of the passage.

    3. Now read the passage and check your answers.

    Activity 3 (Careful-reading)

    1.Teacher asks students to read the passage in detail and complete the causes in Activity 3.

    2.Read the effects and complete the causes of these according to the passage.

    Cause 2:Devices turned off go into stand-by mode and still use power.

    Cause 3:Local produce might use more energy and produce more greenhouse gases.

    Cause 4:If you spend more than eight minutes in a shower, you'll use as much water as in a bath - about 50 litres of water.

    Step 3 Think and share

    1. Teacher asks students to discuss the four questions in “Think and Share”.

    2. Teacher invites some students to share their opinions.

    Step 4 Discussion

    Activity 4

    1. Teacher helps students organise a talk about one of the “green truths” in the passage by getting students to list important points.

    2. Teacher helps students present their ideas properly.

    Step 5 Writing

    Activity 5

    Teacher asks students to read the letter and answer the questions in Activity 5.

    Activity 6-7

    1. Teacher asks students to work in groups and discuss another environmental issue.

    2. Teacher asks students to write a persuasive letter based on the structure in the Students’ Book.

    3. Teacher shows the criteria of a good composition and demonstrates how to assess a composition.

    4. Teacher asks some students to show their writing to the class, and invites other students to make comments.

    Dear Friends

         We are writing this letter to raise your awareness of the need to protect our planet. You can help simply by participating in the No Bottled Water Campaign.

         People tend to think bottled water is cleaner and more convenient. However, they may not know that according to scientific research millions of tons of plastic are used worldwide to make water bottles each year. The plastic can take hundreds of years to break down.

         If you are worried about the effects of bottled water on the Earth, we would like to suggest you take the following steps.

    1 Carry your water in a sustainable, reusable bottle. In this way, you don't need to buy bottled water.

        2 If you have to purchase a plastic bottled beverage, recycle the bottle after use.

        3 Ask your family members and friends to take part in this campaign.

        Everyone is responsible for making our planet cleaner and better by doing what we can. Let's start NOW.

    1)        Read the passages on page 68 and 69 again,understand these passages better.

    2)        Complete the exercises of the guide plan.

    3)        Use logical thinking and critical thinking to sort out and judge common viewpoints in life.

    4)        Write a letter of advocacy related to environmental protection with what they have learned.
