Teaching aims and demands:

1. Knowledge target:

Help the students get information form the reading material about holiday journeys.

2. Ability target:

Enable students to learn the way of writing an email

3. Moral target:

Encourage students to know about foreign history and culture

Important points: the use of the Passive Voice

Difficult points: Talk about their holiday journeys by using the Past Tense

Teaching strategies:

Bottom-up approach

    Interactive practice between the teacher and students, and between the students

Teaching aids: Multi-media computer

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1. Lead-in

Step 2. Pre-reading

1. Ask if anyone know where Paris is and what it is famous for.
2. Show some pictures about Paris and tell students something about the city to introduce some key vocabulary. Repeat the vocabulary with the class for pronunciation and recognition.
3. Put students in groups to talk about what they can remember.
4. Ask different students in the groups to say something they remember about Paris.

Step 3. While-reading

1. Ask students to read the statements about the email first. Students guess if the statements are true or false.
2. Nominate some students to make their guesses and explain their reasons.
3. Ask students to read the email and underline key information.
4. Tell students to check the true statements and decide why the others are false individually.
5. Ask students to go back to the email and underline key information they find. Then they complete the diary individually in Activity 2.
6. Tell students to read the passage again to find the answers to the questions in Activity 3.

Step 4. Consolidation and expansion

1. Let students retell the passage.
2. Encourage students to talk about their journeys in groups, and then let one student share their idea of their own holiday journeys with the whole class.

Step 5. Summary

Homework: Write an email about their last holiday journeys by using the Past Tense.
