    A
My sn was entering Grade 1.He was a bit nervus because he knew his best friend wuld nt be in his new class.I explained t him that even thugh his best friend wuld nt be in his class, he wuld still have sme f his ld classmates.
On the first day f schl when the class list was psted, I was shcked! My sn had zer frmer classmates in his ne.
    Hw culd this happen?
I asked my friend wh wrks with the HamiltnWentwrth District Schl Bard. She explained, “Many largely ppulated schls ften shuffle (弄混) the kids arund each year t encurage new friendships.”
If schls are actively trying t place tw best friends in different classes simply t shake things up, I think it is a blunder.
I was lucky enugh t attend the same primary schl all the way thrugh. It was a small class and ur grup f students mved thrugh each grade tgether. We felt like brthers and sisters. It was wnderful.
While it may be gd t shake things up a bit in the lder grades, it seems almst cruel (残忍的) t separate gd friends in the yunger grades withut gd cause.
One mm named Karen says that her sn is always starting a new grade withut any clse friends. At first, she thught it was a gd idea. Then she realized ne thing — her sn des nt have a “best friend”,which makes her pretty wrried. In fact, she thinks that he des nt have any clse friends because his classmates are always changing.
Part f a schl's respnsibility is t prvide a safe and cmfrtable space fr children t learn and grw.If that envirnment is always changing — causing terrible results — perhaps it is time t rethink this practice.

When I went ff t cllege in the fall f 1991, I was an 18yearld man whse favrite letters were the nes n the sprts sweater.Fur years later, I was crazy abut the letters f the pet Keats, but ne authr's penned letters std ut abve the rest.Yu see, my father wrte me ne letter per week frm the time I left hme.
In an age befre email, these letters seemed t rdinary. But they arrived. Each week. One after anther.Again and again. In snwstrms. On hlidays.Frm freign cuntries. They detailed what Dad referred t as “the week that was”— a daybyday descriptin f my father's life.
In 1995, I graduated frm cllege, like many 22year lds, with plenty f uncertainty.Sme f my questins were pretty typical:What was I ging t d? Where was I ging t live? When was I ging t apply fr graduate schl? But ne questin was mre vital than any ther thing. What wuld happen t the weekly letters? Wuld they cntinue? T my surprise, the letters kept cming, mre heartfelt and emtinal than befre and always n time.I mean the guy never missed.
As much as I enjyed my father's weekly letters, I didn't fully appreciate them all thse years when they arrived like clckwrk. And I never fully understd why my dad wuld always ask if I'd received the letter when we spke.
But nw, as I pen my first fficial letters t my wn sns Jacksn and Cassius, it all seems clear.Althugh ur bys have yet t leave fr cllege, I have t accept that day will sn cme.Just the idea f their leaving frm ur hme makes me ache with sadness nly a parent can knw.
I am writing abut “the week that was” with my daily details. With a bx f ver 500 f Dad's letters nearby and his pen in hand, I write a letter, fighting back the tears I make it t the end and sign it just as he did.All my lve, Dad.
