Oscar Wrigley, a two-year-old child with the same IQ as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, has become the youngest boy in Britain to be accepted into Mensa.
A leader at the Gifted Children’s Information Centre said Oscar, with an IQ of at least 160, is one of the brightest children they have ever come across.
Oscar’s father Joe, 29, an IT specialist, said, “He is always asking questions. Every parent likes to think their child is special but we knew there was something very unusual about Oscar. I’m fully expecting the day to come when he turns around and tells me I’m an idiot(白痴).”
Mother Hannah, 26, told TheDailyMail, “He surprises everyone. We knew at 12 weeks he was quite bright. He was unusually quick in mind. The other day he said to me, ‘Mummy, sausages are like a party in my mouth.’ His vocabulary is surprising. He’s able to make complex sentences.”
Dr Peter Congdon, who tested Oscar, said he was a “child of very superior intelligence (超常智力)”. He showed outstanding ability. “Oscar shows great gift. Changing that gift to success is the challenge for his parents and we are pleased that they have chosen to join the Mensa network for support,” he said. Exactly speaking, Oscar was accepted at the age of two years, five months and 11 days.

If you have ever been disappointed because you don’t have a good gardener, the clever robot may one day become the helper of your indoor plants.
The Hexa Plant is a six-legged robot that has been specially made to care for the potted (盆栽的) plant that it carries on top of its head. Using light and heat sensors (传感器), the robot has the ability to carry its plant in and out of the daylight. If the houseplant needs more sun, the Hexa Plant will walk into the sunlight; and if the houseplant is getting too hot, the Hexa Plant will go back into the area that blocks direct light. The Hexa Plant will even do a little dance when it senses that the plant needs to be watered to warn its owner.
The robot was developed by Vincross engineer and founder Sun Tianqi after he saw a dead sunflower sitting in the darkness in a room back in 2014. “Plants only receive an action without responding,” Sun Tianqi wrote in a blog post. “Whether they are being cut, bitten, burned or pulled from the earth, or when they haven’t received enough sunshine, water, or are too hot or cold, they will hold still and take whatever is happening to them.”
According to Sun Tianqi, for billions of years, plants have never experienced movement of any kind, not even the simplest movement. In their whole lives, they stick to where they were born. Sun Tianqi continued, “Do they want to break their own settings or have a tendency (趋向) towards this? I do not know the answer, but I would love to try to share some of this human tendency and technology with plants. With the help of the robot, plants can experience the move.”
The Hexa Plant model robots are not for sale, though Vincross does sell a Hexa Plant robot model. It is said that in the near future the robots can open up a new market to watch over our household plants.

( )10.What does Sun Tianqi try to do using this technology?

Have you ever wondered what wild animals do when no one is watching? Scientists have been able to record the “private” moments of wildlife with leading-edge technology. Low-cost, dependable and small modern cameras are ofbig help.
Cameras placed in hard-to-reach places have taken videos of everything from small desert cats to larger snow-loving felines(猫科动物) in the northern Rocky Mountains. These cameras are important tools to learn new information on wildlife.
Some videos help scientists see the effects of climate change. For example, the desert animal javelina and the tree-loving coatimundi have been caught on cameras north of their normal home. This could mean global warming is enlarging their living area northward.
Researchers use cameras along with global positioning systems, or GPS. They attach GPS devices(设备) to mule deer and antelope in and around Yellowstone National Park. Then they can record their movements, or migrations(迁移). These cameras can be left in very rural(荒野的) areas for days, weeks or even months. They can provide information on how many animals are moving over a given period of time.
Rural videos can show details about animal behaviour, such as the calls made by migrating mule deer. Also some cameras record animal life and show everything from bison in Saskatchewan, Canada, to the underwater weed forest off California’s Channel Islands.
However, rural cameras have their problems too. Animals such as wolverines and bears sometimes attack them. Scientists do not know if the attacks are the result of anger or interest. Also, the devices have become popular tools to help hunters look for animals. Some people argue that it is unfair to use the cameras that way. Even with such problems, rural cameras are clearly an important scientific tool in researching wild animals.
( )12.Which of the following helps scientists know about climate change?
A.How active animals are. B.What animals eat.
C.Where animals go. D.When animals move.
( )13.Where are the cameras fixed?
A.Under water. B.In the field.
C.On GPS devices. D.On wild animals.
( )14.What may be the disadvantage of the rural cameras?
A.They affect animals’ search for food.
B.They make wild animals puzzled.
C.They make animals attack one another frequently.
D.They might bring danger to animals.
( )15.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Cameras record animals in the wild
B.Every coin has two sides
C.Animals no longer have secrets
D.An invention makes animals mad
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。
On Forgiveness (论宽恕)
To forgive is a virtue(美德), but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
16 Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. 17 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don’t wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way. 18 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about you hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
19 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender’s point of view.
Don’t forget to forgive yourself. 20 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don’t do it.
- Why should you forgive?
- How should you start to forgive?
- Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
- Try to see things from you offender’s angle.
- For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
- To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
- If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.
