Step 1: Warm-up
- Greetings
T: Class begins. Good morning, boys and girls.
Ss: Good morning, teacher.
- Watch a video and think.
At the beginning, let’s watch a video and think. What can you see? I can see…
Ss: I can see a school, gym, supermarket, bookshop,hospital, garden,sports centre, park.
T:Good job! This video is about neighbourhood.(贴黑板上)
[设计意图]通过视频图片,激活学生的知识储备,为接下来的学习做好铺垫。
C. Review
T: You know Andy? Andy is from Ottawa. He lived in Young Street. He was Jenny’s neighbour. Now he is in China. He lives next to Li Ming. Andy is Li Ming’s new neighbour.
[设计意图]通过图片呈现本课谈论的主题,整体呈现上节课课文,帮助学生从总体上理解课文,顺利导入本节学习。
Step 2: Presentation
- Lead-in
So Li Ming says “Shall I show you around?” Let’s follow them. What’s in their neighbourhood? There is a garden? A bookshop? A supermarket? A school? A gym? Or a sports centre? Let’s watch and find. What’s in their neighbourhood?
- Watch the CD-ROM and tick
What’s in their neighbourhood? Take out this paper. You can tick.
Can you come here and choose these words. Let’s check. Is there a garden? Is there a bookshop? Is there a supermarket? Is there a school? Is there a gym? Is there a sports centre?
【设计意图】用本课的重点句型提问学生帮助学生回顾课文内容,既巩固了重点句型,又再次整体理解了Andy’s new neighbourhood 都有哪些设施。

There is garden. There are many trees and flowers in the garden.
There are two men in the garden.
There is a man. There are two men. There are two men in the garden. So Andy asks “ What are the men doing in the garden? Jenny says “ Let’s go and have a look.”
d.Now open your books, turn to P42,read paragraph 1,find the answer.
They are playing Chinese chess.
They are playing chess. They are playing Chinese chess. They are playing Chinese chess.
This one is our Chinese chess, that one is chess. They are different. So Andy says “ Chinese chess is different from our chess.” Li Ming says “ I think so.”
情感渗透:This is our Chinese chess. Chinese chess is one of the traditional cultures in China. We should inherit culture, love China.
e.summary.
They go to the garden. Can you read? Who can act Li Ming, Andy and Jenny?
f. Then Andy sees a blue building. “ What’s that blue building?” ①It’s a bookshop. Let’s watch a video. This video is about bookshop.

This one is Western supermarket, this one is our Chinese supermarket. They are same. So Jenny says “ It’s like our supermarket.”
What’s that blue building? It’s a bookshop. And there is a supermarket beside it.

g. At last, they go to the sports centre. Andy says “ Is there a gym around?” “ No, but we have a sports centre.”
There is a sports centre in the neighbourhood.
Now, they are in the sports centre. Look! Danny is skating there. “Come on! Let’s go and play with him.”
【设计意图】通过Li Ming和Jenny 带Andy在社区里四处参观,学习社区里居民的休闲方式以及一些配套的便民设施。同时把新生词放到语境中教授,让同学们学习更情境化。
Step 3:Practice
- Let’s review the whole-story.
T:This is their neighbourhood. What are the men doing in the garden? They are playing Chinese chess. Chinese chess is different from our chess. Then Andy sees a blue building. What’s that blue building? It’s a bookshop. And there is a supermarket beside it. Is there a gym around? No, but we have a sports centre. Look! Danny is skating there. Come on! Let’s go and play with him.
- Let one student retell the text.
Who can introduce Li Ming’s neighbourhood? Come to the front.

- Well.That’s Li Ming’s neighbourhood. Is it beautiful? Now, look at this neighbourhood. This is my neighbourhood. What are there in my neighbourhood? Can you ask? Use this sentence “ Is there a … in your neighbourhood? Yes, there is./No, there isn’t.
d. Take out this paper. Look at your neighbourhood and practice in pairs. Use the sentence “Is there a … in your neighbourhood? Yes, there is. It’s beside…/No, there isn’t.
Step 4:Production
Say your neighbourhood.
This is my neighbourhood. There is a school , a sports centre , a hospital, a park and a bookshop . The sports centre is next to the school .The park is beside the bookshop. The school is near the hospital. How about yours?
Take out this paper, do task 2. You can talk about in your groups. Write down and share in your groups.

Step 5: Emotion
In our neighbourhood, we should take care of trees and flowers. Take care of public facilities. Save water. No littering. Help each other. Happy and honey. We should love our neighbours, our neighbourhood and our life.
