The first year of Beth Walker's quest for a zero-waste lifestyle, the rubbish in her life wouldn't have filled a wastepaper basket. But now she's stopped keeping track.
Her journey began after a talk by eco-group The Rubbish Trip in 2017. Like most people, she thought recycling was enough to save the planet from drowning in plastic.
But the reality is that most packaging isn't accepted by recycling companies and the plastic in our oceans is still snowing.
Nowadays, Beth's belief is to refuse, repair, and reuse. She refuses to buy anything that comes in a packet. Local bakeries and butcheries, she found, would happily provide food in her own container.
Then she moved to Wellington, and things got a bit harder. Many bulk (散装) food stores were only open during work hours, and she gratefully turned to the regional shopping guides put out by The Rubbish Trip.
She took every chance to show off her "take everywhere bag " , which contains a cloth for hand drying and cleaning,a keep cup, and a container.
Most importantly, she says, it's a privilege (荣耀) to make these choices. But she's cautious not to push her ideas down people's throats. "It's what's sustainable for you personally," she said.
Most rewarding was seeing the effect on those around her. Her dad proudly told anyone who would listen how his daughter was going waste-free. Her flat mates also agreed to go waste-free when cooking for the flat and to remote the bin from the kitchen. And every plastic container they brought into the house was another for Beth's collection.
    4.What made Beth choose a zero-waste lifestyle?
A.A speech she listened to. B.Other students' influence.
C.The products of poor quality. D.The lack of recycling factories.
5.Which is Beth trying to avoid?
A.Reusing a paper bag. B.Relying on recycling companies.
    C.Repairing a broken tool. D.Refusing objects in a packet.
6.Why did Beth show off her "take everywhere bag"?
A.To influence others. B.To show her kindness.
C.To prove her wealth. D.To highlight her privilege.
7.What was her flatmates' attitude towards Beth's behavior?
    A.Mixed. B.Unconcerned.
    C.Supportive. D.Unclear.

The Tour de France is a bike race, which lasts over three weeks and covers 3,351 kilometers. Held in France in July, it is really tough and bikers have to race up and down mountains, on winding, dangerous roads. Every day, he riders finish a different part of the race, called a "stage". Every stage can have a different winner, and each lay, the total time is added up. The person who is leading wears a yellow shirt to show that they are winners.
But there are no women in the Tour de France. For years, women have been trying to change that. From 1984 to 2009, there was a women's Tour de France, run under different names by different organizations. But in 2009, it ended completely.
The Tour de France is organized by Amaury Sport Organization (ASO). In 2014, ASO began holding a race for women called La Course. But La Course is not a long, challenging race.
To make people more aware that a women's Tour de France is necessary, a French cycling club has taken on an unusual project called "J-1". As part of J-1 , since 2015 , a group of women has been riding the exact same come as the men' s Tour de France, just one day earlier.
Women look part in the J-1 project again in 2021. But next year, they won't have to. That's because ASO has announced that in July of 2022, they will be holding the Tour de France Femmes.
The Tour de France Femmes will be an eight-day race with many stages which will start when the men's Tour de France is finished. Christian Prudhomme, the organizer, says this time they are hoping to set the race up in a way that it will make money, allowing the event to continue.
8.What is mainly talked about in paragraph 1?
A.The challenges bikers face in races.
B.The symbolic meaning of yellow shirts.
C.The introduction to the Tour de France.
D.Different winners in the Tour de France.
9.What is the purpose of holding "J-1"?
A.To satisfy women's desire to cycle.
B.To raise people's awareness of exercise.
C.To select excellent riders for big competitions.
D.To call attention to the need for a women's Tour de France.
10.What can we learn about the 2022 Tour de France Femmes?
    A.It will involve more participants.
B.It will be sponsored by Prudhomme.
C.It will be designed to make no profit.
D.I will be after the men's Tour de France.
11.How does the author develop the passage?
A.By listing figures. B.By following time order.
C.By providing examples. D.By making comparisons.

A friend sent me an email, asking if I'd consider writing about educational apps for children to watch while on road trips. The email said, "Many are turning to road trips. And often with long car rides comes the use of on-screen entertainment. These educational apps should also develop their art, math and design skills."
While I realize the intention is well-meaning, and doubtless would lead to a quieter car ride for the parents, the thought of sticking kids in front of screens on a road trip makes me queasy. You see, if they're glued to a screen for hours on end, they will miss everything that's going by outside the window. And that means they'll miss out an a major part of the trip and the opportunity to engage in conversation with family members, but to be alone with their own thoughts, or simply to be bored.
There is so much to see on a road trip! Cars, trees, faces, building, markets, airplanes landing-the entire world is out there, and staring at it from the backseat of a car familiarizes a child with what is going on.
I have a theory that paying attention to one's surroundings while traveling by car helps children develop an internal compass. If they don't pay attention during all those years when they're being driven, they'll struggle to know where to go and how to locate themselves once they're independent. This doesn't mean they have to be alert (警惕的) for the entire journey, but not being on a screen naturally allows for a higher level of engagement with one's surroundings. When you listen to music, you'll look up occasionally; you'll pay attention to landmarks.
What can children do on the trip? Actually, there are plenty of off-screen activities.
12.What was the author's friend's intention to develop apps?
    A.To make some extra money.
B.To seek advice on educating kids.
    C.To entertain and educate children.
D.To improve the relationship in the family.
13.Which can best replace the underlined word "queasy" in paragraph 2?
    A.Uncomfortable. B.Tired.
    C.Unsafe. D.Lonely.
14.What is the author's opinion on focusing on the surroundings when traveling?
A.It can raise children's environmental awareness.
B.It can help children develop a sense of direction.
C.It can give children the courage to learn to drive.
D.It can enable children to become more independent.
15.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Take the Chance of Traveling to Relax Yourself.
B.Say Goodbye to Educational Apps on Your Holiday
C.Learn to Look up from Your Screens from Time to Time
D.Leave the Screens Alone on Your Next Family Road Trip

How to Teach Your Kids to Enjoy Hiking
Hiking is one of my family's favorite things to do. Ever since my kids were babies, we've been getting out of the house on most weekends to explore and get exercise.
16.I get this question a lot from others who express surprise at my 5-aged children's ability to walk 10 miles or their willingness to climb 2 , 800-foot peaks. They say their children don't even want to walk to school, let alone walk for hours in rough conditions. So what's the secret?
In fact, there is no secret. 17. I don't mean physical drills. I mean building their confidence through experience of hiking with regularity.
I've made a list of the things I think about whenever we head out on a multi-hour hike. This list has expanded over the years, as I've learned what works and what doesn't. 18. But for anyone starting out hiking with kids, I recommend you keep these suggestions in mind.
Eat before you leave and carry food and water. 19. That way you avoid kids complaining about being hungry within a few minutes of starting.
Show them a route map. Kids like knowing where they are in the world, and maps are perfect for helping them understand that. I always take some time before we leave to show them where we are and where we're headed. Point out landmarks they will see. Talk about how long it will take. 20.
Invite another family to join you, especially one whose kids know how to hike, too. Having company will motivate all of the children to push forward.
A.How do we benefit from hiking?
B.But how can we manage to do it?
C.And I'd like to share my list with you.
D.So they don't ask me, " Are we there yet?"
E.Not every family's list will look the same.
F.It's just years of training that gets them to this point.
G.We usually have a quick bite before we set off.

    The Girl Who Never Talked
I never really felt like I fit in. I was a freshman in high school and my only close friend was Bella, whom I had known since kindergarten. Bella is and will always be one of my best friends and we often play together. However, she had other close friends too, but I didn't. I was on the volleyball team, and on the court I knew exactly who I was and where I was supposed to be. I loved all of my teammates, but when we were sitting in the stands before and after games I would just sit there quietly, totally unsure of myself.
At school, no one spoke to me and I didn't know how to get along with them. It seems like the only time anyone talked to me was just to jokingly say, "You are so quiet!... do you ever talk?" I wanted to talk, but I just couldn't find the words. I never felt like I knew what to say in a big group of people. All of these made me upset.
One Saturday after our game, Bella was supposed to come over and spend the night at my house. We always had a lot of fun together. I wished that I could talk to the other girls the way I talked to her. But before we left the gym that day, some of the other volleyball girls invited her to go to the movies with them. Since Bella had already made plans with me, they asked if I would like to go to the movies with them too. I agreed and was happy to have a chance to join them.
One of the moms drove us, and we all piled into the back seat of her Suburban-Rhiannon, Destinee, Christine, Bella, and me. I was kind of nervous at first, but once it was just us five, I came out of my shell (壳). For the first time in my life, I really felt like I was a part of the conversation, instead of just sitting there listening. It turned out that I had a lot to say.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
All the way there, an all the way back, we talked and laughed.

I smiled, knowing I finally had friends and my school life would be much happier.
