This bk by Oscar Wilde tells the stry f Drian Gray, a very handsme yung man wh spends his life nly cncerned with his wn pleasure, regardless f the suffering he brings t thers.
The stry starts with yung Drian having his prtrait painted. His friend Lrd Wttn talks abut beauty and pleasure being the nly imprtant things in life. Fascinatedby his wrds, Drian wishes he culd remain yung and gd-lking always, with his prtrait grwing ld instead f him.
Sn afterwards, Drian is surprised t find his wish has cme true, after he meets Sybil, an inncent actress wh falls in lve with him. Drian heartlessly abandns her just because she perfrms prly ne night. When he learns that Sybil has killed herself, Drian finds his face in the painting has taken n a cruel lk.
He hides the painting away s that n ne else may see it. Fr the next 18 years, Drian engages in varius evil deeds. His prtrait ages and reveals his inner ugliness. There lay in the accents f the unfrtunate man s significant an awareness f his sadness that she had nt the strength t utter a syllable. In any case, he wuld nt have heard her. He cntinued:

Then he began t laugh, and that laugh was the mst heartbreaking sund in the wrld. He cntinued:
“Yes, I am deaf, but yu shall talk t me with yur hands as my master talks t me, and then I shall quickly knw yur wishes frm the mvement f yur lips, frm yur expressin.”
“Well!” she smiled, “Explain t me why yu rescued me.”
He watched her intently while she was speaking.
“I understand,” he replied. “Yu ask me why I rescued yu. Yu have frgtten an unfrtunate persn wh attempted t kidnap yu ne night, this same persn t whm yu shwed kindness when he was being punished. A drp f water and a little pity-that is mre than I can repay with my life. Yu have frgtten that unfrtunate sul, but he remembers it.”
She listened t him with prfund tenderness. A tear swam in the eye f Quasimd, but did nt fall. He seemed t make it a pint f hnur t keep it at bay.
